VICTORIAN Premier Daniel Andrews (pictured) has introduced “step one� of restrictions to halt the spread of coronavirus. Speaking this morning, Mr Andrews announced a raft of businesses impacted by bans effective from noon and in place until midnight on April 13. “These bans, this shutdown, includes pubs, clubs, nightclubs, crown, licensed venues, gyms, indoor sporting venues, places of worship, cinemas, entertainment venues, wedding and funerals,� Mr Andrews said. “This list represents a very big step, a massive step that is essential. “This is painful, but it is absolutely appropriate. “This is step one, there is almost certainly a step two and maybe beyond that. “We needed to take a big step and that’s exactly what we have done. “I apologise for that, this is the only way we can keep people safe by flattening the curve, keeping people safe from coronavirus.�

NOW more than any time in the Latrobe Valley’s proud history we need to stick together. The impact of the coronavirus is being felt worldwide and our great part of Australia is not immune. Everyone is affected. It is important we support one another, especially the small businesses who form the backbone of the Valley’s economy. By supporting them, where we can, we will have them around when this all passes and it will. It is also vital that we all respect the current guidelines to stop the spread of COVID-19, especially after the region’s first case was confirmed on Thursday, so we can protect those who are the most vulnerable. Yes times are tough, but we as a community are tougher. The time is now to back the Valley!
