AAmidst the many scenic destinations people travel to all over the world, many rarely wander to the most profound of places: within.

Sahaja Yoga Meditation offers a transformative exploration into one’s inner self through simple and spontaneous meditation techniques. This meditation is now practiced by thousands around the world, a testament to its universal themes of peace, love, and oneness.

Sahaja Yoga was founded in 1970 by Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, a freedom fighter and humanitarian who fought for freedom, both for her nation and for the world.

IIn the early 1900s, India, where Shri Mataji was born, was under ruthless British colonial rule. However, from her early teenage years, Shri Mataji was an active freedom fighter, leading several youth programs for India’s freedom when she was merely 19 years old.

Soon, her and her fellow activists’ efforts were rewarded when India became an independent nation in 1947. Following India’s independence, Shri Mataji began to act toward her life’s mission of emancipating mankind through self-realization.

IIn the words of Shri Mataji, “Freedom is when you really get your own powers, which are within you. In your central nervous system and in your conscious mind, you must feel the existence of the Spirit."

Every human, irrespective of age, gender, race, and nationality, has a pure, universal being within them, known as the Spirit. However, amidst the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, people tend to stray away from this deep and true part of themselves.

RRealizing our true self allows us to distance ourselves from the mental hubbub, the chaos of stress, and the thoughts that bog down the mind. The mind becomes silent, we gain peace, and become unified and aware of the world around us. Through this cosmic connection, we can realize the divinity that lies within every soul.

After 1970, Shri Mataji traveled all over the world, teaching people how to realize their true self through the practice of Sahaja Yoga Meditation. The meditation uses simple techniques and affirmations that relieve stress, tension, and imbalances, leading to a sense of peace that expands beyond a meditation session and throughout the entire day.

HHowever, Shri Mataji had a larger vision for Sahaja Yoga beyond the simple benefits of stress relief and relaxation. At a larger level, this inner transformation, when achieved by the masses, can lead to universal change: a society led by love, peace, and unity. As best put by Shri Mataji, “There can be no peace in the world until there is peace within.”

Shri Mataji’s love and compassion became the bedrock of Sahaja Yoga; her teachings continue to spread globally, completely free of charge. Anyone who is interested can attend free classes in centers all over the world, both in person and online.
