From Venezuela to Miami, New York to Palm Beach, I’ve lived in many homes. Each one had its own personality and each one gifted me with memories from a particular era. There was the home named Mediteraneo, where I first learned to ride a bike. Then, my grandparents’ seaside villa, where I started my sea glass collection. And of course, I’ll always remember the apartment where I brought home my first set of twins. With a real washer-dryer in the unit, it was a big luxury for a New Yorker!

More than a physical space, a home is the setting where our lives unspool and where our memories crystallize in time. If we’re lucky, we hire interior designers. The truly gifted ones channel the protagonists’ aesthetic, soul, and backstory into the home. Through furnishings, art, pattern, scale, and texture they leave an indelible mark. In many ways, they’re like Hollywood set designers.

Speaking of design, in this issue Lauren Wicks takes readers inside this season’s two Kips Bay Showhouses, shining a spotlight on some of our most compelling local and national designers and the trends they are igniting. Also in this issue, Lawrence Ulrich takes us on an exclusive tour of Villa Artemis, an Italianate Palm Beach estate —and Ballinger Award winner— belonging to the Ecclestone family. Scott Snyder, their interior designer, shares the odyssey he undertook in restoring this Volk masterpiece.

Finally, on the cusp of the 56th Earth Day, it felt timely to interview Jupiter resident and international advocate, Thais Lopez. With her family and her passionate team behind her, she is a visionary who is bringing climate solutions to the foreground. Let’s face it, our extraordinary planet is the ultimate showhouse. It is not only a home to all, but one that we must restore, maintain and honor.

We hope you enjoy reading our stories. Perhaps this issue will inspire your next big (or small) decorative act.

In good taste, Carolina

THE PUBLISHER

Our feature on a Ballinger award winning John Volk estate, p. 108, and the imminent launch of Artemis II’s voyage to the dark side of the moon and back made me pause to reflect on these two incredible feats that share the same name.

For some of our readers, the launch of Artemis II will be the first time they will witness a manned space exploration beyond the moon. And for some of our readers, this could be their first exposure to a home preserved with such fine detail and integrity in grand Palm Beach style. For others, especially the talented team that brought the vision to life, and members of Palm Beach Preservation Society, they will be delighted to see how their tireless work has resulted in conserving our architectural style. The prospect of space exploration and new frontiers is a thrilling force and one so desperately needed in this fragmented world. It’s such a feel-good to think of humanity coming together for what is possible as opposed to what is broken.

Artemis’ temple at Ephesus was considered one of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World before it was burned down. Which makes me wonder, did the architects, builders and artisans that built her temple circa 550 BC understand the impact they would have for centuries to come? Did it create that feel-good moment and rally the community to work for a greater good? Likewise, does the team behind Artemis II understand the powerful impact they are making for the future of mankind?

On a lighter side, this year our team once again attended the Kips Bay Palm Beach Show House, swooning over the unabashed use of statement making maximalism. I came to the realization that for me, chintz brings comfort and all the little details from lighting and stone selection to trim and tassels really do spark joy in my world. (Call me a design geek, I’m okay with that.)

From outer space to inside Palm Beach, the passionate and talented experts, whether they are aerospace engineers or interior designers, demonstrate once again that great triumphs and careful preservation define the course of history and design. I hope you enjoy our latest edition, filled with pages of jaw dropping homes for sale and interior design ideas for launching new projects. There really is no place in the world like our little slice of paradise!

All my best,

SOUTH BEACH ROAD

A DEEPER SIDE OF PALM BEACH

Q. Palm Beach interiors have long been defined by lighter palettes. What inspired your shift toward deeper tones and a more layered design language? Palm Beach has always had that light, sun washed look, and I’ve always loved that about it. But over time, I wanted to create spaces that feel more personal and intimate. Moving toward deeper tones and layered palettes felt like a natural shift, adding dimension and making rooms feel more collected and grounded.

I’ve also seen our clients leaning this way. They still appreciate the classic Palm Beach feel, but want something more unique, richer materials, bolder color, and elevated finishes that bring contrast while staying refined.

Q. Do you believe this shift toward warmer, deeper interiors is defining the future of Palm Beach luxury?

I think it’s a natural evolution. Palm Beach design is moving beyond the traditional light and bright look into something more layered and nuanced. Warmer interiors bring comfort and individuality that people are drawn to right now.

It’s less about following a formula and more about creating spaces that feel personal and lasting, while that signature Palm Beach boldness remains, just in a more intentional way.

Q. There’s a beautiful balance between materials like wood, stone, and soft textiles. How do you curate these combinations without overwhelming the space?

A Conversation with Patricia Borja Interiors 561-

It comes down to being intentional. I start with a cohesive palette and build from there, making sure each material has its moment without competing. Texture does a lot of the work, bringing in wood and stone for depth and balancing it with softer textiles to keep the space inviting.

It’s less about how many materials you use and more about how they’re layered. When it’s done well, it feels effortless and lived in.

Q. How do you layer architectural features and décor to make a statement?

I think of it as building a story within the space. I start with one strong defining element, whether that’s a sculptural light fixture, a ceiling detail, or a stone moment, to set the tone and create a focal point.

From there, it’s about adding layers that support it rather than compete. Ceiling treatments bring depth, lighting highlights key moments while creating mood, and natural materials like stone help ground the space. In the end, it’s all about balance and making everything feel connected while letting that standout element shine.

“Patricia’s approach ultimately definest a new direction for Palm Beach interiors, one that feels personal, layered, and enduring.”

GLOW GETTER

Shining a Spotlight on West Palm Beach’s Newest Lighting Destination

From Charleston’s cobblestone streets to the shores of West Palm Beach, Ann Yancy, founder of Ro Sham Beaux, is bringing her luminous design vision to a new audience. Known for luxury lighting that blends coastal ease with striking handcrafted form, Yancy is expanding her brand to South Florida with a new storefront.

Located in the Flamingo Park District, Ro Sham Beaux’s new Florida storefront showcases statement chandeliers and bespoke fixtures up close. The space captures Yancy’s refined yet relaxed aesthetic, creating a destination where statement-making design and effortless sophistication collide.

LHM had an illuminated moment with Yancy:

Q. What inspired you to create Ro Sham Beaux, and how has the brand evolved since its founding?

My path to lighting design began in the world of fine art. At the Portland School of Art, I focused on sculpture, metalsmithing, and jewelry-making, where I developed an early appreciation for proportion, materiality, and handcrafted detail. After starting my career as a jewelry designer in New York City, I became drawn to creating pieces that could shape an entire space. Lighting design offered the perfect opportunity to combine artistry and function while working at a larger, architectural scale.

What began as a small workshop in Charleston has since grown into an internationally recognized lighting brand. Ro Sham Beaux distinguishes itself through its use of thoughtful, eco-conscious materials such as semi-precious stones, hemp, recycled glass, and rattan — paired with a commitment to craftsmanship and Customization. Today, Ro Sham Beaux’s fixtures illuminate residences, boutique hotels, and design-forward commercial spaces around the world, and the company has expanded with showrooms in Charleston, Palm Beach, and the Dallas Market Center. Ro Sham Beaux has never been about chasing trends, but about refining a philosophy: that luxury lighting should feel timeless, intentional, and deeply connected to the materials and hands that create it.

For me, the evolution of Ro Sham Beaux has never been about chasing trends, but about refining a philosophy: that luxury lighting should feel timeless, deliberate, and deeply connected to the materials and hands that create it.

Q. You’ve described lighting as the “jewelry of the home.” How do you approach designing pieces that feel both functional and artistic?

My goal is to create heirloom-quality pieces that endure — not just in design, but in meaning. This philosophy informs every piece we create. Like fine jewelry, lighting has the power to enhance its surroundings and become a defining element within a space.

Q. Ro Sham Beaux is known for its use of natural materials like quartz, hemp, and recycled glass. What draws you to these elements, and how do they shape the brand’s aesthetic?

Natural materials bring texture, depth, and a sense of authenticity that you simply can’t replicate with synthetic materials. Each one interacts with light differently — quartz can catch and refract it, while recycled glass softens and diffuses it in a beautiful way. Those materials also help define the overall aesthetic of Ro Sham Beaux. There’s an organic quality to them that makes the pieces feel warm, layered, and timeless rather than overly polished or trend-driven. At the same time, using materials like recycled glass reflects our commitment to thoughtful sourcing and responsible design.

Q. What lighting trends are captivating you right now?

Designers seem to be leaning more deeply into their clients’ individual tastes and lifestyles, creating spaces that feel uniquely tailored rather than formulaic. Regardless of the size or scale of a home, there’s a greater emphasis on personality and storytelling in interiors today — and lighting plays an important role in expressing

that. Materials like alabaster and spherical fixtures that conceal the LED source are becoming very popular. They create a beautifully clean silhouette while subtly nodding to mid-century design. There’s also a growing interest in softer, more tactile elements. I’m noticing more gathered fabrics used for shades and pendants, which brings a sense of warmth and comfort to a space. It’s a beautiful contrast to the harder materials we often see in architecture and furnishings.

Q. With Ro Sham Beaux expanding into West Palm Beach, what are you most excited to bring to the local design community?

Palm Beach has such a vibrant and sophisticated design community and we’re excited to become a part of that creative energy. Because every piece is made to order, the showroom becomes a place where designers and customers can truly collaborate with us and creating something truly unique.

Q. For homeowners or designers looking to elevate a space, what is one lighting rule to break?

One of my favorite rules to break is playing with scale. Lighting has an incredible ability to shift the feeling of a space, and sometimes the most memorable designs come from going larger than expected. A generously scaled fixture can create a dramatic focal point and bring a sense of presence to a room. At the same time, the opposite approach can be just as powerful. Choosing something smaller and more restrained — like an exquisitely simple flush mount — can create a quiet elegance that feels incredibly intimate. For me, it’s really about balance and confidence in the choice.

The sting of losing a luxury dream home or lucrative investment in an exclusive Florida enclave—like Admiral’s Cove in Jupiter or Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club in Boca Raton, where the closing ranges from $15 Million to $35 Million—is a harsh reality when traditional bank loans rest upon the financial documentation or credit of the investor. You find the perfect property, promising private waterfront access, world-class golf, and exceptional appreciation, only to be stopped by the major obstacle of the bank refusing to fund your $20 Million + loan. The required loan amounts for luxury homes now often exceed conventional lenders’ maximums, triggering rigid guidelines, lengthy approval processes, and ultimately, a lost opportunity.

In the ultra-competitive South Florida luxury real estate market, a single day can mean the difference between securing the ideal luxury property or watching it go to another investor. Speed and certainty of close are everything. Private, asset-based lenders such as Capital Funding deliver the decisive advantage investors need, closing loans up to $50 Million for single family investment properties - solely focusing on the property’s prime location, current market value, and strong after-repair or resale potential rather than requiring exhaustive personal financial documentation or pristine credit.

Why choose a private lender like Capital Funding over traditional banks when you need a loan in the tens of millions? In South Florida’s fast-moving luxury market, private financing offers powerful benefits: quicker approvals and closings (often within 2 weeks, not months), dramatically less paperwork, and funding decisions driven by the asset itself instead of personal tax returns or credit scores. Banks routinely max out on loan sizes for properties in the $5M–$20M+ range and impose strict limits or outright declines on high-end single-family homes. Capital Funding’s asset-based approach removes those

barriers, letting you move swiftly on prime opportunities from $5 Million to $50 Million and more, so you can avoid bureaucratic delays, and secure flexible terms tailored to sophisticated investors.

This streamlined, asset-driven solution keeps your investment strategy on track and gives you a real competitive edge in South Florida’s luxury market.

Capital Funding’s recent closings in South Florida demonstrate this advantage in action. The firm has successfully funded several high-value luxury singlefamily home purchased the most prestigious communities in the area, including a $23 Million loan on the famous Palm Beach Island, a $20 Million loan in Port Royal, a $8.75 Million loan closed in Palm Beach in a one week time-frame. In the Jupiter area, Capital Funding closed 5+ loans between $7-$12 Million in the exclusive Admiral’s Cove golf and country club, funding ground-up construction and investment property purchases which turned a profit. These substantial transactions highlight how tailored private financing enables investors to close quickly and confidently on premium properties that traditional lenders simply cannot accommodate.

For luxury property investors seeking a high-end single-family home purchase, a strategic renovation flip, or a rapid bridge loan to seize a time-sensitive opportunity, early consultation with an experienced private lender such as Capital Funding is essential. Partner with a capital provider that delivers both the loan size and the speed you need to win in today’s market.

range is equipped with TopTracer technology, digital yardages, synthetic turf target greens, four USGA-spec chipping greens, and even robots to retrieve range balls and cut the grass.

The culinary experience at Ibis is equally exceptional. The club transformed its poolside dining venue into Amici, an Italian restaurant. Beyond the fresh design, an entire culinary team was recruited from Italy to offer authentic cuisine, wine tastings, and other specialties for members to enjoy.

The modern Clubhouse is the heart of social activity, featuring an additional three distinct dining venues, from casual in the Pub to fine dining in Panache, a wine room, ballroom, and six card rooms to keep members connected and entertained. For over 40 years, Bear Lakes Country Club has been a bastion of world-class golf and country club lifestyle in the Palm Beaches. It is the only private, members-owned club in the region with two 18hole championship golf courses.

Recently, the club has undergone a complete transformation of all the amenities and facilities, starting with a newly renovated Clubhouse introducing a casual yet contemporary environment, indicative of the club’s culture and membership.

The Jack Nicklaus Signature Lakes Course, a traditional Parkland style design, was renovated 5 years ago and is truly a championship caliber test of golf. The Links Course is currently being reimagined by World Golf Hall of Fame Member Davis Love III and Love Golf Design into the “American Links” style –synonymous to the classics like National Golf Links and Chicago Golf Club by Charles Blair Macdonald and Seth Raynor – completely unique to any course in the region. Add in the new state-of-the-art practice facility with complete Trackman technology – the largest Trackman solution facility the country – and you have the best learning center in the region according to major champion Ernie Els.

Bear Lakes has not stopped there. In addition to world-class culinary offerings and a variety of social events for members to enjoy, the club is about to embark on a complete renovation of their Racquets & Aquatics Center. Renovating their 6 Har-Tru tennis courts, adding 6 Pickleball courts and a Padel court, as well as a new indoor/outdoor dining venue adjacent to the remodeled 25-meter pool, this final piece of the overall master plan will provide a comfortable sanctuary where members will be able to relax and unwind after a day on the course or the courts.

Charles Fazzino Celebrates the

Island’s Iconic Style and Dining Scene

New limited editions celebrating Palm Beach and Palm Beach County are now available through authorized dealer Fazzino Art by Amazing Animation.

Charles Fazzino’s Palm Beach Comes to Life in 3-D

A vibrant new art movement is capturing the spirit of Palm Beach through the unmistakable 3-D Pop Art of internationally renowned artist Charles Fazzino. His newest limited edition celebrating Palm Beach and Palm Beach County has local collectors excited about the opportunity to own a playful and colorful tribute to the place they call home.

Q. Why is Charles Fazzino’s 3-D Pop Art so popular?

Quite simply—it’s fun. Fazzino’s artwork is joyful, energetic, and accessible, appealing to collectors of all ages. His signature technique involves meticulously hand-cutting and hand-layering multiple elements to create dimensional scenes that literally rise off the canvas. The result is art that invites the viewer to explore every detail. Each layer reveals something new—from architectural elements to whimsical characters—encouraging collectors to look deeper and discover the remarkable craftsmanship and storytelling within every piece.

Q. Tell us about Fazzino’s newest Palm Beach–centric limited edition, Dining Palm Beach.

Iris Scott Seafoam Oracle, 2025 Oil on Canvas

72" × 72" × 2 1/4"

Seafoam Oracle is a vast, immersive field of oil-born cells—an oceanic vision rendered in cascading blues and deep earthy reds. The painting evokes the sensation of standing before a waterfall in motion, where water, bubbles, and mist fold into one another in a continuous, breathlike rush. Across the surface, textures reminiscent of scales catch the light, adding a subtle corporeal whisper to the composition. Though entirely abstract, the piece feels on the verge of becoming. Within the shifting currents, there’s a sense that something might coalesce—a form, a feeling, a presence—emerging from this ethereal body of water. It is as though the canvas itself is listening, divining, waiting. Rich with movement and possibility, Oracle carries an undercurrent of love, awe, and quiet power. It invites the viewer to linger in the in-between space where nature, intuition, and imagination flow together.

The Palm Beach Art Collection www.ThePalmBeachArtCollection.com

Iris Scott Sentisphere, 2026 Oil on Canvas

100% Finger-painted 60" × 60" × 2 1/4"

Pink presses into gray as deep fingertip grooves sculpt the sky’s thick paint into place. Far in the distance, a watchful wall of trees contains the scene like a quiet, sacred secret. In the foreground, lily pads and long wet stems rise through the surface. No animals are visible, but the place hums with their presence, something always shifting just out of sight. Hundreds, maybe thousands, of small orbs, fireflies or something else, give Sentisphere its namesake. They illuminate the landscape from within, turning the marsh into a field of suspended thought. The glow is soft, collective, and strangely benevolent. Nothing dramatic happens. No spectacle announces itself. And yet the air feels charged with a possibility that is either perfectly natural or just beyond what language can pin down. The painting holds that uncertainty without resolving it. It asks whether this is simply a wetland at dusk or a place where consciousness gathers like light.

6 Design Trends To Take Home

From the 2026 Kips Bay Palm Beach Show House

The annual Kips Bay Palm Beach Decorator Show House is one of the area’s most adored design events, and 2026 proved to be no exception. This year, the program expanded across two properties in West Palm Beach, offering even more room to inspire aesthetes of all kinds in clever ways. Here, you’ll find six decorating concepts that are sure to spark major trends in the world of interiors this year, all while supporting Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club and Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County.

SENSATIONAL CEILINGS

The fifth wall received some much deserved design attention across the Show Houses. Several design teams stood out for their use of the ceiling as a destination for one-of-a-kind art installations. BAMO, Inc’s sunroom features an articulated slatted ceiling that plays with light and shadow to create a transportive ambiance; Wecselman Design’s Great Room features sweeping hand-blown glass. However, we also loved subdued ceiling dressing: The Lewis Gallo Design Group’s featured painted bamboo molding and the Eerdmans’ fifth wall juxtaposed a suzani-inspired wall fabric with a dreamy blue ceiling hue.

UNABASHED USE OF PASSEMENTERIE

In a world of two-day shipping and dupes galore, nothing says luxury in design quite like craftsmanship. The use of tassels, fringe, skirting, and more take beautiful rooms to the next level, as showcased in Tartan & Toile’s entertainment command center and powder bath, as well as Alexander Interiors’ hall and bath designs. The ultra-feminine draperies, tassels, and tiebacks — as well as Alexander Interiors’ skirted vanity — all add layered elements of yesteryear luxury. However, Kate Ives Design leaned into this trend in her own way, using scalloped bed draperies to bring a dramatic visual effect while sticking with a neutral color palette.

RITUAL SPACES

Several rooms excelled at linking form and function. LTA Interiors’ Mahjong Lounge offers a distinct purpose and point of view to what could have been an overlooked secondary gathering space; Tartan & Toile’s party planning HQ shows that even underutilized or oddly shaped rooms can become ever-important hubs for hobbies and activities. In terms of the outdoors, Bell Design created a paradisal wellness destination thanks to a chic threeperson Kohler sauna, juice bar, and plenty of lush, verdant greenery. River Brook’s Tiki Tent is a marriage of the two, giving this outdoor room an interiors-level treatment with elevated tenting, unique furniture silhouettes and surreal artwork. It’s the chicest at-home cocktail hour in town.

DRAPERIES TAKE CENTER STAGE

In line with the return to craftsmanship, draperies took the spotlight throughout this year’s Show Houses. Danielle Balanis pattern-drenched a bedroom in a stunning Lee Jofa Oscar de la Renta floral and featured matching draperies creating a warm intimacy. The Lewis Gallo Design Group layered the main home’s sunroom with traditional patterned curtains, tassel-adorned pelmets, and roman shades to control sun exposure and privacy in this light-drenched space.

SWOON-WORTHY WALLCOVERINGS

The power of wallcoverings to transform a space and transport inhabitants to new worlds were on full display. Lisa Erdmann’s Mustique-inspired sitting room brings the outdoors in, ushering island flair with Brunschwig & Fils’ Nouvelle paper. A classic floral Colefax & Fowler wallcovering in Justin P. Moreland’s entry offers a delightful layered element with a delicate embroidery that pairs swimmingly with the painted trim and ceiling. Lori Morris goes all-in on gilded glamour with a pastoral scene by Paul Montgomery’s The Mural Source.

STATEMENT-MAKING STONE

Materiality had a strong presence this year with an abundance of striking stone counters and floors throughout. The beautiful pink marble by Calia Stone in River Brook’s tiki bar adds convivial cool, while Sire Design’s feminine dressing suite is balanced out by a dramatic black Primestones countertop. Firefinish leaned into a modern geometric pattern from Artistic Tile to adorn the floor and walls, creating a joyful sanctuary. Finally, Steven Walsh leaned into plaster and black marble from ARCA setting up a sophisticated, sensory bath experience.

THE GREAT ARTEMIS

One Couple’s Quest to Preserve a John Volk Masterpiece

As one-upping moguls tear down perfectly good mansions in Palm Beach, some owners will still choose preservation over a wrecking ball.

Count Diana and E. Llwyd Ecclestone in the preservation camp. The couple won a Robert I. Ballinger Award for their painstaking three-year renovation of a 1929 Italianate house at 190 S. Ocean Blvd. It’s a house that, lacking landmark status, could easily have been lost to the frenzy for glittering new turnkey projects, according to the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach that gives the annual award. “There needs to be a reverence for our great architects of the past, such as John Volk, and their work,” says Danielle Del Sol President and CEO of the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach. “Palm Beach’s look and feel are what have drawn people to this place, and created its extraordinary value, for over 100 years.”

And now, Luxury Home Magazine takes its readers on an exclusive look at the roughly 21,000-square-foot house. We also spoke with Scott Snyder, who masterfully oversaw the estate’s epic makeover.

“You find fewer people today who have the time, love and interest to renovate these properties,” says Snyder, one of Palm Beach’s most soughtafter designers. “But the house has made it through nearly 100 years, and now it will live for another 100 years.”

The Ecclestone’s home was originally designed by John L. Volk, the Austrian-born architect whose hundreds of area projects include the Royal Poinciana Plaza and its Playhouse, a long-dormant landmark now redeveloped as Glazer Hall. It was built for Vincent Bendix, the automotive and aviation pioneer whose inventions include the electric car starter. A 1932 story in The New York Times reports Bendix selling the home for $275,000 — a lot of money in a post-Black Friday economy — to Mrs. Edward F. Albee, the widow of a vaudeville theater tycoon and maternal grandmother of future playwright Edward Albee.

By the time the Ecclestones bought the six-bedroom house in 1996, Snyder says, it had fallen into rough shape: Battered by oceanside elements, and as dark and somber inside as a Mediterranean monastery.

“I’m very straightforward with clients, and Diana is a morecontemporary person, so I said to her, ‘It looks like your great-grandmother would live here,” Snyder says.

The couple named the house Villa Artemis, a nod to the Greek analog of Diana, the Roman goddess of the hunt. And so began an epic odyssey to preserve the home’s historic past, while bringing into a lighter, more-livable 21st century.

“
” We believe very strongly in protecting and preserving Palm Beach,” Diana Ecclestone says. “And one of the things we truly love about this house, is that it really is the “old” Palm Beach.

Enlisting architect Jeffery Smith of Smith Architectural Group, the couple settled on six small additions, including an enlarged secondfloor master suite. A handsome loggia that backs a courtyard and vintage fountain was redesigned for today’s year-round Florida living. With the push of a button, glass sheets ascend from below ground to fill a trio of loggia arches, for a choice between open air or air-conditioned comfort.

“We had to dig out below the courtyard, which was quite an engineering feat on Jeff Smith’s part,” Ecclestone says.

A formerly awkward open walkway between upper-floor wings was enclosed, carving out space for an exercise room and sitting room. A refreshing new swimming pool and guest house are accessed via an underground passage below the street, amid gardens by landscape architect Morgan Wheelock. Ecclestone says it was the first such private seaside tunnel in Palm Beach; this in a time when “wicker wheelchairs” — propelled from behind, typically by hotel employees — were a popular means for winter tourists to traverse the shoreline.

Mica-flecked French plaster or pearlized capiz shells gleam on walls, reflecting newly abundant natural light. Plumbing, electrical systems and lighting needed replacing. Original fireplaces were renovated.

Snyder, who began a half-century design career as a Pennsylvania entrepreneur, venturing to New York on buying trips, now traveled to Europe to curate antiquities, upholstery and furnishings. For one room, Snyder commissioned an antique-reproduction desk and armoire, inlaid with mother of pearl, from a talented furniture maker in Syria. A Sotheby’s auction in Monaco yielded a striking pair of red Chinese pagoda beds, once owned by the late banker Edmund Safra and his socialite wife, Lily Safra.

“Some things need to be quiet, but some things need to have a little spice,” he says.

A historic renovation at this scale would test the patience, and budget, of the most committed homeowners, and that of their architects, decorators and unsung-hero contractors. But after three years of exile — we’re not talking a remodeled kitchen here — the Ecclestones finally saw their property returned to its former glory. Only better.

Snyder had set up a welcome luncheon in the loggia. The designer was naturally anxious, but the multi-hour tour that followed assured him the team had triumphed.

“Scott brought us into the house, and I literally burst into tears,” Ecclestone says. “Every room, every corner we turned was so amazing, so beautiful. And Scott just hit every note perfectly.”

THE GAIA CONNECTION

How One Jupiter Visioneer Is Upending the Climate Crisis

With her pageant-perfect smile, enviable hair, and a mellifluous voice, Thais Lopez draws people into her orbit. The former Venezuelan attorney and mother of six isn’t just making conversation—she’s connecting a global network aimed at tackling the climate crisis through conferences, award-winning media, and partnerships with innovators and nonprofits.

According to the ClimateWorks Foundation, the world’s philanthropists devote less than 2 percent of their giving to environmental causes. Those sobering numbers convinced data engineer, hedge fund CEO, and Thais’s husband, David Vogel, to focus his family legacy on the environment. In 2014, the couple combined their last names (Vogel-Lopez) and launched the VoLo Foundation.

“Sixty percent of our foundation focuses on the environment,” says Lopez. “The rest is focused on health and education. If you build a hospital, you can help the one in ten South Florida kids who suffer from asthma and respiratory infections triggered by ozone and particle pollution. At VoLo, we want to prevent the problem (air pollution) in the first place by using scientific data and connecting people.”

Since its inception, the VoLo Foundation has supported more than 175 programs across the United States and around the world. The organization has also awarded more than $60 million in grants, with a strong focus on initiatives in its home state of Florida, including Jupiter High School’s Environmental Academy, MacArthur Beach State Park’s educational programs, and the Vista Award grants for Florida graduate students.

“The climate crisis is the biggest threat to humanity,” says Thais. “But it’s not all doom and gloom, because we have the solutions.”

In 2023, Wilmer Cuervo, PhD, received a $10,000 Vista Award—paid to the University of Florida—to further research on reducing greenhouse emissions in livestock. Cuervo discovered that polyphenols found in certain weeds, when introduced into a cow’s digestive system, improved digestion. In turn, methane emissions from the livestock declined.

“The Vista Award let me follow what many thought was a crazy idea,” says Cuervo. Now, at least one professor who initially laughed off his hypothesis is pursuing similar research. Along with the financial boost, Cuervo says that participating in VoLo’s annual Climate Correction Conference in Orlando gave him invaluable networking opportunities to advance his work.

“ ” We don’t just connect dots on spreadsheets, we connect people. -Thais Lopez.

Perhaps there is no greater conduit for connection than the media. VoLo produces both an educational biweekly newsletter and a monthly podcast. Last year, the foundation teamed up with Hearst Media to launch The Visioneers with Zay Harding, a television series highlighting environmental solutions and eco-heroes. Airing on CBS and multiple streaming outlets, the show is approaching the 45-million-viewer mark and is currently filming its third season.

Harding, the show’s recognizable host, was also its catalyst.

“My husband and Zay knew each other growing up in Hawaii,” says Thais. “One day Zay shared this idea for a show that could teach sustainability—but in a fun way.” It didn’t take long for Thais to connect the dots. Like all of VoLo’s media projects, Visioneers is dubbed in Spanish, her native language.

Growing up in Caracas, Thais attended Emil Friedman, an academically rigorous school rooted in music and service. Its motto—no hay cultura sin cultura musical (“there is no culture without musical education”)— shaped VoLo’s own guiding philosophy.

“I like to say there is no future without environmental education,” says Thais.

For everyone sharing this planet, Thais’ hopes to educate—and connect—them all.

There are homes... and then there is CASA D’ÄNDELÖS —a sculptural, floating work of architecture where light, water, and concrete exist in perfect equilibrium. The name itself, Ändelös, means ‘’endless’’ in Swedish — chosen because there is simply no boundary to the vision, the engineering, or the experience. Call / text for details.
