Lusk United and FAI partner to deliver Girls TY Initiative An initiative which was the first of its kind took place in Lusk United’s Clubhouse on Rathmore Road, from Monday 10th to Friday 14th February. Lusk United AFC and the Football Association of Ireland joined forces to coordinate and deliver a girls only football programme for transition year students from local secondary schools. Thirteen girls; from Lusk Community College, St. Josephs Rush and Loreto Balbriggan, took part in this new and exciting project. Over the course of the week the girls completed the FAI Safeguarding Workshop and the FAI PDP 1 coaching course. They also received some first aid training with St. Johns Ambulance and had a workshop with Jigsaw North Fingal on mental health. As part of the week the girls were tasked with delivering football sessions to local primary schools, Lusk National School and Rusk and Lusk ETNS, hosting a schools blitz and also put together a three year strategic plan for the development of women’s football in Lusk. Another exciting element to this project gave the girls the chance to showcase their progress to the wider public with an Instagram Takeover of the club’s Instagram account. At the end of the week the girls were on the road to visit FAI HQ where they got a tour of the facilities and presented their vision for female football participation to the Head of Women’s Football at the FAI, Sue Ronan, National Coordinator for Women’s Football, and their team.

Fingal St. Patrick's Day Parades Preparations for St. Patrick’s Day this year are underway with seven parades organised across the county with Malahide set to host their first parade. The parades will yet again be lively celebrations of all things Irish and a fun day out for everyone.Over 100,000 residents are expected to attend the parades, over 15,000 people will participate alongside up to 1,000 community organisations and businesses in the parades. This will be a huge boost to local economies as thousands of people will be packing the streets to enjoy the day.Mayor of Fingal, Cllr. Eoghan O’Brien said: “St. Patrick’s Day is a significant cultural event each year and the parades allow Fingal residents to celebrate it in their own communities. The parades are an opportunity for residents to see and engage with local community groups and businesses in their area. I look forward to attending the parades in Fingal and seeing all the diverse and creative floats this year. I would particularly like to welcome the addition of Malahide to the Fingal St Patrick’s calendar.”The history of Balbriggan will be front

and centre in their parade this year with the theme being the ‘Sacking of Balbriggan’, which took place a hundred years ago. Fingal County Council operates the three parades in Swords, Balbriggan and Blanchardstown while financially and operationally supporting all seven parades. Davis Events have been again engaged by Fingal County Council to deliver the 2020 parades.The Mayor of Fingal will be attending the parades in Swords, Malahide and Balbriggan this year with the Deputy Mayor attending the parade in Blanchardstown.AnnMarie Farrelly, Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, added: “The Malahide community will be hosting their own St. Patrick Day’s Parade this year. Fingal County Council is delighted to be supporting this parade and all the other community-led parades in the county. The Fingal Events team works to organise parades that are an entertaining and inclusive cultural celebration.”

Our New Year and a new financial outlook By Dave Kavanagh So, March 2020. The time when many “New year, new me” changes may have faded into memory. So many great intentions of life improvements were planned, The reality is, for many, these events occur, whether or not you have planned for them. There are 40,000 new cancer cases diag-nosed in Ireland every year, and yet many still think “it’ll never happen to me”. If any of these type of events would cause a financial loss to you or those dependent on you, making some time to at least establish what options are available, is the least you should consider. There are so many other benefits to reviewing your finances, not least of which, it can leave you with more money! Two of the tips I constantly tell people is to examine 3 months’ bank statements and to do a monthly spending exercise. Going through the bank statements can help identify things that maybe you should no longer be paying for, or

that you are duplicating. Keeping a spending diary for a month will give you a clear picture of detailed outgoings, allowing you to identify spending that you could possibly do more efficiently and permit you to make any changes necessary. The end result of making the time for such an important topic, will not only usually leave you better off financially, but put you more in control of your finances, thereby reducing the stress/anxiety often associated with money. We have a busy year ahead with the following calendar of events to look forward to.Our weekly activites are as follows: Mondays Tai Chi at 7.30pm in The Cottage, The Square, Tuesday Walking at 11am meeting at The Bandstand, on The Green opposite St Mac Cullins church. Different routes each time, Tea and chat in Skinny Batch 12am, Drama 2pm in one of the ladies houses, Card making with Jacinta 7.30pm. Thursday Aquarobics Sports Link Santry 11.15am / 12:05pm, Set dancing Balrothery €5.I n addition we have a number of events planned for the coming months In February we held a successful walk in aid of two charitys - Autism and GACI Generalised Arterial Calcification in Infancy, this is a rare genetic disease that affects the circulatory system where calcium deposits in all areas of the body resulting in thickening of the arteries. In March - watch out for our Coffee morning in aid of Daffodil Day. We also look forward to taking part in the local St Patricks Day Parade In April - our annual international trip will take place to Malta In May - we will be hosting an International night, theme to be revealed in the next issue In June - Garden Party held in An Grianan In July – annual summer outing will take place In September – Save the date 17th for the Coffee morning in aid of St Francis Hospice and Lusk guild will host a craft day In October – Jo Carroll golf competition, our 4rd annual weekend in An Grianan, an opportunity to learn a new skill or improve existing skills and recharge for the busy months coming up! News & Events Lusk AC Fit4Life and the 50k Championship 2020 got off to a bang for Lusk AC with athletes in action at multiple events in the early months of the year. Our new Fit4Life group started with big numbers attending training. There was a large team entry at the Dublin Masters Cross Country in Raheny where our women’s team ran really well. Orla Smith won bronze at the National Combined Events in Athlone. A few travelled to the EOI Tirmoghan Marathon in Kildare where conditions were cold and icy. There were over 4,000 finishers at the Raheny 5 mile road race which included 58 from Lusk AC with many achieving PB’s. The club also did a ‘takeover’ of Donabate parkrun providing volunteers and Pacers for the 281 participants. February got off to a great start as 5 of the club’s endurance runners travelled to Donadea Forest for the Irish 50k championship where they were well supported by other club members. Sean Greensit had a super race running 3:58 to secure 2nd place in the M50 category. Well done to all and we look forward to the months ahead.
