Fingal County Council named “Local Authority of the Year”

Fingal County Council has been named Local Authority of the Year at the InBusiness Recognition Awards 2019.The award was accepted by Deputy Mayor of Fingal Cllr Tom Kitt at the awards ceremony held in the Westbury Hotel in Dublin. Cllr Kitt said: “I am delighted to accept the InBusiness Award for Best County Council. A key part of our mission statement is to make Fingal the best place in Ireland to do business in and winning this award for the second successive year indicates that the work we are doing on the ground is having a positive effect on the business community.” Cllr Kitt added: “There is a growing recognition amongst all stakeholders of the importance of local authorities and our ability to get things done. We are the closest government agency to the citizen, and business, and are therefore best placed to deliver services directly to them.”Fingal County Council Chief Executive AnnMarie Farrelly said: “It is a great honour to receive this accolade in recognition of our efforts to improve the quality of services we deliver to all our stakeholders. Part of our vision for Fingal is to make it a good place to do business in, so it is particularly pleasing to be recognised for our efforts in this area.”

O’Donoghue Calls for Flood Plan

Cllr Rob O’Donoghue has demanded that significant a amount of money be included in the Capital Programme to alleviate the problem of flooding in the Lusk area, which has become an increasingly serious problem in the area. He said, “The main areas which I have highlighted with the Council for Immediate attention and for major works to be carried out are from Blakes Cross to New Haggard and on the Minister Road.” O’Donoghue continued, “ the Blakescross to New Haggard flooding is particularly concerning to me as it is the main county road servicing four large towns. Up to date, the Council have been responding as to when the flooding occurs but a large amount of monies will have to be spent to identifying the source of the problem to ensure that the problem of flooding is resolved in these areas.”

It’s always nice to make the effort for someone who means a lot to you for Valentine’s, by cooking or baking for them.Or perhaps with lent coming up, one last indulgence might be in mind. This is a decadent and rich dessert. Quite simple to make and uses minimal ingredients. I like it with a dollop of vanilla yogurt and grated chocolate as in the picture. Ingredients: • • • 6

1.Preheat a fan oven to 180’c. 2.Blitz the dates and any remaining liquid in a food processor/blender. 3.Melt the dark chocolate carefully in a saucepan over a gentle heat and stir. Once it is all melted, remove from the heat and stir in the blitzed up dates. 4.Mix in half of the ground almonds and

2 eggs. Then add the rest of the ground almonds, the final egg and vanilla extract and combine well together. 5.Pour the mixture into a nonstick or pre-lined with parchment paper baking pan and bake in the oven at 180’c for 20 minutes. Rush and Lusk Against Crime Facebook Page A new facebok page has been set up called Rush And Lusk Against Crime. The page has been set up for the people of Rush, Lusk and Loughshinny areas to try to keep the area as a safe place for everyone to reside. The page is set up so anyone can report any crime, nuisance, antisocial behaviour or anything seen as suspicious in their area. It is to help keep people informed on what’s going on around them as the organisers want everyone to get involved in trying to minimize crime as much as possible. They say, Since the closing down of Rush Garda station and also the cutting back on the Garda stations in Lusk and Skerries, people are feeling vulnerable, alone and at a bit of a loss. The page owners say they want a place for people who are feeling this way, to come there if they need help or if they have any ideas of their own on how to contribute to managing crime or nuisance then they want readers to come and add to the page. They have called on everyone to help out to keep those lovely little towns safe places to live and raise children. In their message on their page they say, “Lets try to bring some community spirit back. Lets all try to become better neighbours. This page is yours to use and have your say, please use it... You can also send messages privately and admin will help anyway they can. We don’t have many rules but we will ask that you all respect each others views, please no bad language as some people may find it offensive, please absolutely no racism, we are all part of the community and we all have something to contribute, Best of wishes to all and hopefully we can all make a difference.”

News & Events Lusk AC fun run raises over €1,000 Lusk AC finished a successful 2019 with the annual 5k Charity fun run which this year raised a fantastic €1,030 for St John’s Ward, Crumlin Hospital. Well done to everyone that came out on a wet St Stephen’s Day and donated to such a worthy cause.The club would like to welcome all new members including our latest Fit4Life group. 2020 promises to be another exciting year for our growing club. Junsa Taekwondo Club News

Junsa’s 5-7 year old group at there club grading just before Christmas.

Junsa looking forward to new 2020 Season Junsa Taekwondo has been extremely busy in December and January with club grading, black belt grading and a tournament to prepare and compete in. Five Gold Medals achieved at the Korean ambassadors cup , 3 new black belts added to our club and outstanding performances at the club grading. Junsa Taekwondo would like to thank all the parents and guardians, students and senior black belts for their continued support in 2020.

Dublin Rural Development Programme LEADER 2014-2020

Final Call for Environmental Projects Dublin Rural LEADER on behalf of Dublin Rural LAG invites Voluntary Community Groups, Charities, Medium Enterprises, SME’s to submit Expressions of Interest for funding under the LEADER / Rural Development Programme 2014-2020. Available Budget:

Total budget of €500,000 is available to applicants. Grant amounts will range between €5,000 (min) and €200,000 (max)

Maximum Rates:

50% for Businesses, 75% for Community Projects, 100% for Training

Funding is being made available through the Rural Environment Theme under SubThemes: • • •
