Happy Christmas with Lusk Community Choir

Annalisa Monticelli pianist/conductor Meet the brand new Lusk Community Choir. Born from a collaboration between pianist/ conductor Annalisa Monticelli, Fingal County Council and Nicole Kearney from The Cottage Community Centre. Under the expert direction of Annalisa our Community Choir rehearses every Wednesday night in Saint Macullin’s Centre in the heart of Lusk.The choir is growing in confidence and will showcase their talent at their Christmas Concert on 14th December at 7pm in

Lusk Community Choir the beautiful Saint Macullin’s Centre (the Round Tower church in Lusk). This is a FREE EVENT but you will still need to obtain a ticket through Eventbrite.ie as there are limited seats available. The choir will also participate in the Fingal Choral Festival on 12th March 2020 with a visiting choir. The venue is still to be confirmed so keep an eye on Lusk Community Choir Facebook page for further details closer to the date.The choir is lucky to have members of the community helping

and supporting rehearsals such as Zena Palmer who assists with musical accompaniment and promotion, along with Loraine Power who helps out with technical support. We are extremely grateful for their help.The choir welcomes new members and is open to anyone over 18 years of age. No experience is necessary and if you wish to join you can contact Annalisa or follow the choir on Facebook to find out about their upcoming events.

O’Donoghue Calls for Master Plans for Lusk Cllr Rob O’Donoghue has called on Fingal County Council to fast track the three Master Plans, laid out in the current Fingal Development Plan to be fast tracked due to the volume of construction that is currently taking place and that is slated to take place in Lusk.The three Master Plans for Lusk North (including the Sports Hub), Lusk West (Ministers Road area) and Lusk, Station Road are requirements of the Fingal County Development Plan 2017-2023 to provide for new residential communities, subject to the provision of the necessary social and physical infrastructure.Cllr O’Donoghue stated that “the Council has indicated to me that the Lusk North and Station Road areas had ‘template Masterplans’ created during the previous development plan (2011 – 2017). However, there has been no public consultation undertaken with the community in Lusk on planning decisions that will affect our community for decades into the future.”Cllr O’Donoghue continued, “given the ongoing building taking place Station Road and the current Strategic Housing Development proposed to take place off the Ministers Road, two of the areas designated as having masterplans, the necessity for the preparation of Masterplans for Lusk has become more important than ever in the interests of sustainable development and the provision of the correct amenities in the town.”

Make Your Minutes Count with ALONE this Christmas

In Dublin on 15th November 2019 ALONE, the organisation that supports older people to age at home, launched their Christmas campaign, which encourages members of the public to make their minutes count by working together to tackle loneliness and isolation. Author Marian Keyes launched the organisation’s Christmas campaign, to encourage members of the public to take a few minutes out of their day to interact with their older neighbours and relatives who may be experiencing feelings of loneliness as the festive season approaches. “Older people have the most amazing stories to tell”, she said. ALONE is also asking for support from new volunteers and donors to help to support them to combat loneliness and other challenges faced by older people. One in ten people over 75 are lonely a lot of the time and demand for ALONE’s services has increased five-fold in recent years. One in 4 older people live alone, and this increases in rural areas. Marian commented, “I’m delighted to be helping ALONE launch their Christmas campaign this year, to spread awareness of such an important issue. I admire the work that they do with older people and I’m so happy to 6

be a part of such a positive message. Loneliness and isolation can be serious problems for older people and dropping in for a chat or helping a neighbour with their shopping could make all the difference to their mental health. We’ve all felt alone at certain times in our lives, sometimes all it takes is a cup of tea and a bit of a laugh to really lift an older person’s spirits. A few minutes may not mean much to you, but to a lonely older person it could be the highlight of their day.” She continued, “As we age, it can be more difficult to reach out to people for companionship; a lot of older people might be embarrassed or too proud to admit that they are lonely. What might only seem like a quick chat to you can make an older person feel loved, appreciated, and that they are part of the community. News & Events A Great year for all at Lusk AC Congratulations to everyone on a fantastic 2019. Our growing club had large numbers competing across a whole range of events and age categories. In recent weeks over 50 club athletes completed marathons in Dublin, Amsterdam and New York.Thank you to all our hard working committee members, coaches and those that work in the background. Thanks also to local businesses for your continued support of our club and community, helping to keep it healthy and active. Enjoy the Christmas break and we look forward to seeing you back at training on Tuesday 7th January.

Junsa Taekwondo Club News Six medals for Junsa Taekwondo in Holland Junsa Taekwondo has been as busy as ever with new members joining, black belt grading, national competitions and international tournaments to prepare for and compete in. Recently the clubs kyrougi team ( sparring team) competed in Holland at the TTE Open. This competition is a highly regarded tournament with fighters from Belgium , Holland, Spain , Morocco and the UK. Junsa brought a team of 8 players and brought home 6 medals.
