Businesses Please Donate PPE for Community Call volunteers Businesses across Fingal are asked to answer the Community Call against Covid-19 by donating Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for use by Community Call volunteers.The Fingal Community Call Forum, in a joint initiative with Fingal Dublin Chamber of Commerce and Fingal County Council’s Economic Enterprise and Tourism Development Department, are seeking donations of new and unused PPE for the volunteers who are engaged in carrying out services such as grocery and prescription deliveries to vulnerable citizens and older people who are cocooning. There is a need for face masks, gloves (small, medium and large sizes), face shields, goggles and hand sanitiser. Offers of donations can be placed through the Covid Support telephone numbers of 01-8905000 or 1800 459 059 or by email to covidppe@fingal.ie. Fingal County Council will arrange pick-up of the donations from donors and delivery to Community Call volunteers. Mayor of Fingal, Cllr. Eoghan O’Brien, said: “The Covid-19 pandemic is a major challenge and the people of Fingal have risen to meet it in many admirable ways. Our volunteers and colleagues active in the Community Call Forum are rendering a sterling service, and they need all the support and protection we can give them.“That’s why we are calling on businesses across Fingal to donate any new or unused PPE equipment if at all possible – we are all in this together, so let’s answer the Community Call,” added the Mayor. The appeal to the county’s businesses comes after Fingal County Council donated 30,000 items of PPE to Beaumount Hospital, loaned two 3D printers to Surfbox for use in PPE production, and donated acetate sheets for face shield production by a volunteer 3D printer.

Treasure Hunt For Guide Dog Charity

My name is Anne and I have lived in Portrane for 40 years.During this time of the Covid pandemic and lockdown I would like to mention the acts of kindness done by our local postman Peter Kavanagh. These are not limited to the time of lockdown but are ongoing.If ever we had a competition for Postman of The Year,I would nominate our postman Peter. He is always so helpful. I know he will keep an eye to the house when I am away on holiday and now in this difficult time of cocooning, he always checks to see if I am alright. He always says if I need anything not to hesitate to ask him and I know he means it. Because he knew I had to cocoon and could not leave my house in his own time he went to collect a parcel for me.Second in popularity in the area is Benjy -Peter’s dog!! Everyone knows him well as he accompanies Peter to deliver the post. I usually have bones for Benjy but recently my supply ended. I happened to say to a friend that my usual supply of bones for Benjy had ran out. Three days later Peter arrived at my door with a small package addressed to me, but the contents were for Benjy. This was a packet of dog chews from my friend so now I can give him one every time he visits.Another memory I have is when my husband was ill - Perter called to our house with a lovely meal prepared by his sister.!!! Not many places have postmen who are as kind as that. Although I am speaking for myself, I know there are so many people in this area who have many stories of his kind deeds Thank you, Peter. Fingal’s “In This Together” campaign

A wide and varied range of activities and resources for all ages is available across Fingal as part of the new “In This Together” campaign. This is the second phase of the Government’s Community Call. The ‘In This Together’ campaign aims to provide everyone in Ireland with ways and activities to Stay Connected, Stay Active, and take care of their Physical and Mental Wellbeing throughout the Covid-19 emergency.‘In This Together’ draws together a huge range of activities to pursue in your home, your locality, by yourself, with family members or with friends online. A Wellbeing Activity Booklet developed between our Community Team in Dublin 15 and our Age Friendly Co-ordinator will be delivered to 2,000 older or vulnerable people cocooning at 6

home. It has all the tips and activities that people can take part in.This along with a ‘stay connected’ project between schools and senior citizens will support elderly and vulnerable people in their own homes. Fingal C C Launch Activities in Nature Competition Fingal County Council are delighted to announce that our Environmental Awareness department have launched the ‘Activities in Nature’ competition. The competition which encourages people to try out some fun nature activities is now open for applications.This competition is open to all, however only residents of Fingal and Fingal staff and their families will be eligible for the prizes. Photos of the completed activities must be submitted with the application form.Applicants must choose to complete six of the following activities:1.Create a bird feeder from things at home. 2.Make a bird Treat! Bird Feed – Pine cones or stones covered in Peanut butter and rolled in seeds. 3.Paint stones, paint characters or your favourite designs. 4.Spot/ identify 3 different cloud types, write them down, draw the cloud shapes. 5.Make some pressed flower or feather bookmarks. 6.Identify 3 types of trees near your home (using leaf undergrowth and bark colour, buds, leaves), list what you find. 7.Identify and record 3 native wild flowers around your home eg. daisy, dandelions, buttercup, birds-foot trefoil, sorrel, primrose. 8.Build a ladybird home/ bug hotel. 9.Do a bug hunt- see what you can findladybirds, caterpillars, bees, snails, beetles, spiders, ear-wigs, flies or any other insects 10.Draw and colour a picture of your favourite Irish wild animal. 11.Find 6 different types of insects or birds, write them down. 12.Create a shallow mini-pond in a bucket. 13.Find some fungus growth on trees/ wood/ walls. 14.Find some frog spawn in a slow-moving freshwater stream, visit it regularly and see the baby frogs grow. 15.Find a wild/ native ivy habitat and list five insects/ animals or birds that might live in it. 16.Draw and colour 4 native woodland leaves, different shapes, e.g. Ash, Oak, Birch, Hazel. 17.Draw and colour our native Irish frog! 18.Draw and colour your favourite garden bird or sea bird. 19.Draw and colour your favourite Irish sea creature. 20.Draw and colour your favourite native Irish insect. 21.Draw and colour an ancient Irish animal, e.g. great deer elk, woolly mammoth, bear. 22.Choose your favourite Irish mammal, write down 5 facts about that mammal. 23.Draw and colour your favourite native Irish bird. 24.Draw and colour your favourite Irish wild mammal. Fingal Libraries significant increase in e-services Fingal Libraries has recorded a 52 per cent increase in demand for

its e-services since the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis.E-services, including audiobooks, e-books, newspapers, magazines and music

streaming service have proved incredibly popular since the branch network closed at the beginning of the Coronavirus outbreak.Use

of e-newspapers and loans of e-audio books and e-books have also

recorded a significant increase during the crisis.Despite the closure

of the branch network, Fingal Libraries has continued to provide an important service to members through their online offerings as well

as ramping up their social media content.The Fingal figures reflect a

similar trend nationally with the Department of Rural and Community

Affairs announcing a phenomenal 313% increase in new users of eBooks and eAudiobooks service and a 246% increase in usage of the online

newspapers/e-magazines across the country.In response to the increased

demand, Minister for Rural & Community Development Michael Ring

recently allocated €200,000 to purchase over 5,000 new eBooks and

eAudiobooks.Fingal’s County Librarian Betty Boardman said: “We are

delighted to see an increase in the use of our e-services as our members

adjust to the new reality of our branch network being temporarily closed. Director of Housing and Community Department Margaret Geraghty said: “It is great to see Fingal Libraries playing such an important role

for people during this current crisis. In Fingal we are fully committed to

supporting community wellbeing and to ensure that although our library buildings are closed that through e-services our libraries we continue to reach out to as many people as possible. We will continue to look

for ways to provide access to library services for our citizens and look

forward to the day when our libraries are open again to the public.For

How have your finances changed since COVID-19? By Dave Kavanagh A lot has changed with people’s finances due to the impact of COVID-19. Both income and expenditure look very different for many, as well as an added uncertainty in the weeks and months ahead. So what can you do to be a bit more in control of your finances? Firstly, deal with the “new essentials”. If your income has been reduced, work from the figure you are certain of. List essentials like food, utilities, mortgage etc. It may be that you have availed of a lender’s option to have a payment holiday for a few months. If you are still stretched, you may wish to temporarily freeze contributions to things like saving plans or pensions. Next, prioritise other things that you pay for. Be careful with things like life cover, mortgage protection, serious illness cover etc. If these type of plans were let lapse, there may be difficulty getting them back in place again if your health has changed since commencing (not to mention any impact from COVID-19 on premiums or underwriting. In reverse, if you were considering commencing plans like these, it would be wise to do so sooner, while there is still a degree of certainty.) Fraud - There has been a substantial increase in attempts of fraud, primarily

with “phishing” texts or emails. The most common appear to come from banks, PayPal, Apple Support and even Welfare pretending to give you payment information. Do not click on any hyper links in these messages and pay closer attention to your banking transactions. When shopping, make a list of exactly what you need and stick to it. This can reduce your shopping bill and prevent throwing out food that goes off, as well as reducing the time you need to spend in the shops. Overall, it comes down to making some time to go through your finances to put you in control of them and not them in control of you, therefore reducing anxiety around money. Junsa Taekwondo Club News Junsa Taekwondo still training..... but at home ! With the recent restrictions on people gathering and in the interest of keeping our students, parents and everyone safe we had to postpone our training sessions, BUT instead of just stopping training, we continued at home, with all of our students receiving training programs and video training clips. We at Junsa thought it was important for our students to keep up their training and their Taekwondo skills from the safety of their own home or garden.Here are photos of some of our guys in training.
