Fingal remembers -2018-2023 – Can you help? 1916 Commemoration

Fingal County Council is developing a Commemorations Programme for the period 2018-2023, when there will be many aspects of our past which need to be remembered and commemorated. These may form part of the Decade of Centenaries in which we will remember significant historical events that took

place between 1918 and 1923, or may relate to other aspects of Fingal’s history and heritage. The Council is now embarking on a consultation process so that the people of Fingal can have their say on what we should remember and commemorate. This process will also encourage a discussion on how such

EIB loan could trigger €180m investment in Fingal Fingal County Council received an early Christmas present when they signed a €70million Framework Loan Agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) which will trigger a €180million investment in strategic infrastructure projects within the county’s Capital Development Plan. This represents the first EIB support for county-wide investment in partnership with an Irish local authority for more than a decade. and will enable a step-change in economic growth prospects for Fingal which has Ireland’s fastest growing and youngest population. The Framework Loan Agreement with EIB will give Fingal County Council the capacity to borrow €70million over the next five years and this will be invested in capital projects in areas such as: Transport, connectivity and housing land activation,Enterprise development and job creation including development of new industrial sites,Tourism promotion and visitor attractions including investment in historic properties and cycleways, Social and cultural facilities including libraries and facilities for the arts and Environmental investment EIB President Werner Hoyer and Vice President Andrew McDowell joined Mayor of Fingal Cllr Mary McCamley and Fingal County Council Chief Executive Paul Reid at a special ceremony in County Hall, Swords, on December 7 and signed the Framework Loan Agreement.

The Fingal Commemoration Programme 2018-2023 aims to: • Reflect the results of the public consultation process now being undertaken by the Council. • Set out the events, persons and themes which Fingal County Council will prioritise for commemoration during the period 2018-2023 • Outline ideas for, and methods of, remembering and commemoration which groups across Fingal may wish to apply to their own commemorative aims during this period. • Detail the supports the Council aims to provide to local groups and organisations wishing to develop a commemorative event or endeavour during the period 2018-2023. The Council also encourages ideas and suggestions for commemoration from outside the Irish experience reflecting the fact that Fingal is one of the most diverse counties in Ireland with residents from many different countries.

Budgeting Smarter for the new year How to be in better control of your money As a new year commences in Lusk, many people consider how they can do some things better than they did last year. Every choice you make, every activity you do, every change you contemplate, are in some way connected to your finances. You have income. You have expenditure. The aim is that the first one is always greater than the second. Here are a few tips to cut spending further and hence, improve how much you have left over each month: Carefully study 3 months’ bank statements,make a detailed list for grocery shopping (and don’t shop while hungry). Compare before you shop for larger items. Compare utility providers. Whether it’s electricity, gas, broadband, mobile phone service or similar, there can be substantial savings to be had by switching to better deals. Check and shop around when car/house insurance renewals arrive. Review premiums on life cover/mortgage protection. In over 20 years of helping people with their finances, I have never seen anyone NOT make savings by doing the above. Lusk Community College- Santa arrives

As part of their Young Social Innovator’s project, The Transition Year students of Lusk Community College decided to challenge how teenagers are perceived in their community. Wow, what a successful job they did ! For one day only, on Saturday the ninth of December, Lusk Community College was transformed into Santa’s Grotto with games and Christmas activities for the children all over the school and kind and friendly elves to help and guide. They had horses out the back dressed as reindeer, the woodwork room was transformed into Santa’s workshop, the Home Economics room became Mrs. Claus’s Kitchen, Songs form Frozen were playing in the music room, a letter to Santa room, games, face painting and of course Santa’s grotto. They linked up with various community groups including the GAA nursery, the soccer academy and little athletics. All the parents and children who attended on the day were very impressed and had a “very magical time”. Well done to everyone concerned you are a credit to our community! Junsa Taekwondo- celebrate with black belts

Local Sports Junsa taekwondo recently took part in the Korean Ambassadors Cup Championships, in Tallaght, where all of the students took medals home and did themselves proud. Also on the day they had Jack Weldon Murphy as an official referee who won an award for best official of the competition, what an achievement! On the 4th of December Junsa students, Jovan , Laila , Megan , Aisling and Ava represented the club at the National Black Belt grading held in Coolock . The guys were put through their pace’s along with 40 other students from all around Ireland , in front of a panel of four Black Belt Masters and passed with flying colours. It was a very proud moment for their coach Stuart Russell and the club and our congratulations to the young people, their parents and the club coaches who are doing such marvellous work in the area & C O N F E Junsa taekwondo trains in the Round Towers GAA club and is always open to new members young and old. They cater for all grades from young children who want to make a start in an Olympic sport to high level athletes. During the year we were asked to help out some charities by individual members of our club and during Decemberer they were able to present their gifts to their chosen charity. Veronica Brogan completed the Dublin City Marathon in October and in the process raised much-needed funds for Blanchardstown Hospice. She presented her cheque to the hospice. At the same time Rachael Fogerty took our donations for her November Shoebox appeal to help the homeless in Dublin this Christmas. Can we firstly thank everyone for their donations but more importantly congratulate Veronica and her family and Rachael and her family for taking time to raise these funds. We’d also like to thank everyone who gave on our St Stephen’s Day 5K fun run in aid of Team Alanna and Snowflakes. We were overwhelmed by your generosity once again.

Lusk AC Christmas Meal and Awards Thank you to everyone who came along to our annual Christmas meal which was held in the Man O’War restaurant. Again the Man O’War did a wonderful job with a very tasty menu and excellent service. It was great to be able to recognise just a few of our wonderful members for their achievements and dedication to the club. We’re very excited to see what 2018 holds for us!

National Cross Country Abbottstown Cara McNally was in action in the U14 3000m race in Abbottstown recently in huge field of over 150 from all over the country. The start of the race was crucial and Cara got a good start with a very fast pace. She stayed in a good position with the first 1500m lap with conditions very soft under foot and boggy in parts.The second lap helped the stronger runners move away from the pack and with 600m to go the two leaders came over the hill and not too far behind came another bunch of ten runners with Cara right in there among them. The finish was very close with two groups making a break; with just a second between sixth, seventh and eighth Cara finished in 8th position and as always smiling at the finish line after a brilliant sprint finish. The support she received was great and a real family affair with the McNallys spread all across the course to cheer their daughter, sister and niece on. Lusk AC are over the moon for Cara as she works really hard and has made huge progress in the cross country over the last 4 years. Congratulations Cara! All at Lusk AC are very proud of your achievement.

A quick solution could be to pre-make a batch of these super easy muffins below so that you can bring them with you on the journey and have them on the go Pre-heat oven to 180’c. Method: 1. Mash the bananas and mix with the 2 cracked eggs in a bowl. 2. Blitz the oats in a blender and add to the egg and banana. 3. Blitz the mixed nuts in a blender and add to the mixture. 4. Add the cinnamon, flaxseed, honey and yogurt to the mixture and mix well together. 5. Finally add the raisins, chopped dates and pecans. 6. Scoop the mixture into muffin cases on a tray and pop into the oven at 160’c for 30minutes. 7.Store in an airtight container for up to 6 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
