The Bleeding Pig Cultural Festival celebrated International Women’s Day in Donabate Portrane Community Centre on Sunday 8 th March. The celebration was opened by Jacinta Lowndes, Community Centre General Manager and began with a Coffee Morning in Café Natural with entertainment by The Ukulele Hussies, Brid Staples sang “Grandma’s Hands”, and Cliona O’Reilly and Eleanor Ronan played a violin duet “Por una Cabeza” – tango from Scent of a Women. Peig Mc Manus read her short and hilarious story “Pendulous” and Cliona read a short piece from two new books about Portrane women “Margaret Evans Poet from Portrane” and “ Sophia Parnell Evans Feminism, Politics and Farming in 19 th century Portrane” by Gerry Ronan. 4

for our exhibition was “Women Painters of the Peninsula “ -Éalaíontóirí Mná na Leithinse and we had a selection of paintings by the very talented women of the peninsula.Thank you to the girls from 6 th Class in Scoil Phadraic Cáilini for their incredible portraits and congratulations to the winners.The local Brownie group with leader Emer Weston produced a collaborative art display based on the Leo Tolstoy quote “Women, in your hands lies the salvation of the world.”There was also an informative exhibition on the almost invisible and unknown Irish women artists of the 20 th .century. Henchy Welcomes Opening of Donabate Distributor Road Cllr Adrian Henchy has said he is very pleased to finally see the Donabate Distributor road fully operational. He said, “This new road was a critical pillar of the Donabate local area plan which was adapted by Fingal County Council in 2016 and creates a long overdue bypass of the already significantly over congested Donabate Village. This new road which includes a new bridge crossing Dublin Belfast train line will create better access to parts of Donabate including Balcarrick, Corballis and all of Portrane which includes the St Ita’s Hospital Campus and the new National Forensic Mental Hospital which becomes operational towards the end of this year. While I absolutely welcome this significant investment in physical infrastructure to the Donabate Portrane peninsula this also needs to allow for the speedy delivery and development of commercial and recreational facilities including the Ballymastone Sports and Recreational Campus, the Broadmeadow Greenway connecting Donabate to Malahide and the planned Corballis Nature Park. While this new road will effectively open up a new corridor to build more
houses along some sections of the new road it is critically important that the development of new houses is phased over time and the area is respected for being a peninsula that enjoys a very positive Rural/Urban feel and does not become an Urban sprawl that does not meet the needs of our community especially in areas of commercial , transport, policing, education and recreational.My thanks to our local community for the extraordinary patience and understanding as we lived through the building and significant disruptions of this major infrastructural project in tandem with the building of the new National Forensic Mental Hospital over the last 3 years. While the new road is very important and a positive development this will only be true as long as the other serious issues like; Coastal Erosion and Flooding Transport , the current road and footpath network , Policing , Tourism & Heritage and Sport & recreation are also addressed in order to ensure that Donabate and Portrane continue to be a great place to live work, visit and raise a family.”
Fingal LEO commits all resources to help Fingal businesses survive Covid 19 Fingal County Council’s Local Enterprise Office is committing all its resources to help Fingal businesses survive the current Coronavirus crisis.Some businesses have been forced to close or have seen their sales and income drop significantly in the past week but Fingal LEO has issued a message that they are still there to support them.Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Eoghan O’Brien, said helping the local business community was very important in the current circumstances. “Most of the business in Fingal are SMEs and provide a lot of jobs so it is important they get every support they can. The Local Enterprise Office in there to support Fingal businesses and will be a valuable resource for our SMEs in the weeks and months ahead as they deal with this unprecedented crisis,” said the Mayor.“All businesses have been massively impacted by the COVID-19 emergency,” said Oisin Geoghegan, Head of Fingal LEO. “It is imperative that our clients know that the LEO Office is still available to support them and our services will be available to them through this emergency.”In its efforts to help businesses Fingal LEO is expediting payments due to clients and to suppliers and is proactively contacting clients that have been approved to get their payments processed quicker if they are in a position to drawdown. All repayments due to the Enterprise Office from repayable grants are now suspended and clients are being advised they may defer repayments for an initial three month period. All training courses have been cancelled and refunds will be issued. “We have cleared the decks and are now recalibrating with the focus being on helping businesses to manage the crisis,” said Mr Geoghegan. “We are offering suitable training courses like digital marketing which can be rolled out online and are looking at other online initiatives.”“We are also offering one-to-one business continuity mentoring to clients, principally in the areas of HR, Financial Planning and Online Selling.”LEO is also seeing an increase level of interest in the new MFI Loan Scheme which is offering up to €50,000 with 0% interest for six months and a six month moratorium on repayments.

St. Pat’s working with the community
In St Pats - as with all GAA clubs countrywide - all training and matches are paused until further notice. Not ones to sit at home doing nothing, the lads have taken it upon themselves to offer assistance to the community. They’ve volunteered to help people doing or delivering shopping, collecting medicine or prescriptions or walking dogs. In these uncertain times, we seem to be inundated with frightening news. Seeing the community stepping up and offering to help has brought some cheer in to people’s lives.
