WELCOME

WIDELY REGARDED AS ONE OF THE FRIENDLIEST CLUBS IN THE AREA,

Shirehampton Park Golf Club is situated around five miles along the A4 Portway from the centre of Bristol. Located several hundred feet above the River Avon, you would struggle to find a more scenic setting for a golf course. The course has magnificent views across the river to the Gordano Valley and the distant spires of Clifton. This timbered parkland is a delight to the eye all year round.

Over the years our lovely course has had some noteworthy remarks made about it. In a book titled ‘The Best Views from First Tees in the Country’ our 11th hole, which was the first at the time the book was published, was given a notable mention. Henry Longhurst, one of the most famed golf writers and commentators in the country, stated that our third hole was in his opinion ‘one of the best par 4s in the country’.

An agreement was reached for land to be rented from the Kings Weston Estate, sufficient for an initial nine hole course.

THE CLUB WAS FOUNDED FOLLOWING AN INAUGURAL MEETING HELD IN THE GEORGE INN, SHIREHAMPTON IN 1904.

Over the next two years the course was completed, and greens were fenced with chicken wire to protect them from the sheep and cattle that grazed the fairways.

By 1907, the course had been extended to 18 holes and the first clubhouse was erected. In 1918 the land occupied by the course was bequeathed to the National Trust from whom it is now rented.

During World War II the course was reduced to nine holes with the remainder being used as an army camp for US troops; hole 15 is still called ‘America’. By 1952 all 18 holes were once again in play and the scars of war had disappeared.

Famous for its connection with sea and ships, the course was often used by officers and crew from ships docked at Avonmouth. They held the club in such high regard that in 1915 they donated a trophy named

‘The Officers Cup’. This remains the oldest trophy competed for at the club.

The present clubhouse was opened in November 1992, being the fourth in the club’s history.

More information about the history of Shirehampton Park Golf Club can be found in a delightful booked, ‘Golf in the Little Park’, which has been researched, compiled and published by former club captain, Eric White.

The UlTimaTe Golf Break GeTaways

Whether you are interested in a short golf break with friends in Europe or an extended family holiday with golfing opportunities further afield, we’re here to help.

Popular golf spots include Portugal and the Costa del Sol, but Europe offers a wide range of destinations for those seeking world-class courses, fine cuisine, and a little sightseeing. From sunny beach resorts to historic cities and countryside escapes, there’s a golf break for everyone.

PGA Catalunya in northern Spain is consistently ranked among Europe’s top golf resorts, featuring two superb courses: the Stadium Course, known for its challenging design and well-bunkered fairways, and the Tour Course, slightly more forgiving but equally rewarding.

In France, the Terre Blanche Resort in Provence offers two stunning options — the championship Le Château Course and the scenic Le Riou Course, overlooking the French Riviera. Near Paris, Le Golf National, host of the 2018 Ryder Cup, remains a must-play for any golfer.

Further afield, the Faldo Golf Resort in Cyprus, designed by Sir Nick Faldo, combines strategic play with Mediterranean views.

For somewhere more exotic, Mauritius and the UAE deliver luxury golf in breathtaking settings. In Mauritius, Anahita Golf & Spa Resort features an Ernie Els–designed championship course, while Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club, by Bernhard Langer, offers island golf with spectacular ocean views. In Dubai, The Els Club provides rolling fairways and desert scenery within a worldclass resort.

Whether it’s a short break or a long-haul holiday, Deb and Elan will arrange every

detail, from tee times to travel, leaving you free to focus on perfecting your swing. With a 5* Trustpilot rating you are in safe hands.

call today for exceptional service and attention to detail.

1ST HOLE | Par 4 327 yards

A slight dog leg right. Longer hitters don’t need a driver here as the ideal tee shot needs to go 200 – 220 yards keeping it short of the fairway bunker on the left.

2ND HOLE | Par 3 125 yards

Lovely little drop hole with 2 deep bunkers to the right & one you can’t see back left.

3RD HOLE | Par 5 475 yards

A newly designed risk & reward par 5 that some say the best hole on the course. If you’re going to hit the green in 2 shots you will need a long drive down the right side of the fairway to give you a view of the new green that is tucked away behind the trees on the left.

HOLE BY HOLE

4TH HOLE | Par 4 373 yards

A very slight curve round to the right makes a fade the ideal tee shot. 5th fairway is to the left and 15th to the right so you can get away with a wayward drive but don’t forget to shout FORE. The front of the green slopes left to right and back towards you so anything slightly short will end up rolling back away from the green.

5TH HOLE | Par 4 415 yards

A long uphill par 4 that plays longer than its 415 yards. A very slight curve round to the right and OUT OF BOUNDS up the right 15 yards in from the trees. Take an extra club or two on your approach shot.

6TH HOLE | Par 3 162 yards

A tough little par 3 with a small green. A lot of the members play to the front of the green where the slopes off to the left and right aren’t as steep.

CHECK THE COURSE UPDATE

7TH HOLE | Par 4 288 yards

A sharp dog leg left where longer hitters can cut the corner but make sure the group in front are out of the way. Play your approach shot to the slightly to right of the flag to avoid the drop off to the left.

8TH HOLE | Par 3 145 Yards

Another testing short par 3 with small green and 4 bunkers, two to the right and two to the left.

9TH HOLE | Par 4 346 yards

Great looking tee shot from a raised tee out through the trees to a slightly uphill tree lined fairway. Longer hitters can go past the fairway bunker but medium hitters need to be careful.

10TH HOLE | Par 4 246 yards

Driveable par 4 but with a well protected green with 6 bunker waiting for anything less than a perfect tee shot.

11TH HOLE | Par 4 486 yards

A tough long par 4 straight along the top of the gorge. Offering the best views from the course out over the river. Out of bounds to the right. A bogey is a good score

12th HOLE | Par 5 509 yards

Down, up and then over the hill. off the green is straight up and over the hill and might be worth a quick walk up to the top to get your line.

HOLE BY HOLE

13TH HOLE | Par3 164 yards

with large sloping green from right to left. With 2 bunkers left and 2 bunkers right.

14TH HOLE | Par 4 327 yards

Back up and over the same hill as the 12th Blind second shot if you don’t get to the top of the hill with your drive.

15TH HOLE | Par 4 351 yards

Once your tee shot reaches about 180 yards the fairway slopes down and to the left so a drive down the right hand side is needed and again on your second shot if landing short of the green.

16TH HOLE – Par 3 176 yards

Great Par 3 over the coombe to a raised green.

17TH HOLE – Par 4 417 yards

Long Par 4 that drops away to the right down on the tee shot although you need to be slightly right side of the fairway to have a good line into the green.

18TH HOLE – Par 3 187 yards

The last of 6 tough par 3’s and a great finishing hole in front of the clubhouse. Fairway slopes right to left in front of the green so allow for that if landing it short.
