rickendon Grange Golf Club is set within 160 acres of mature Hertfordshire countryside within a spectacular yet peaceful location. The course offers a superb golfing challenge for all standards of player. Our parkland course is rated as one of the finest in the south of England and our 17th hole (the Ace of Herts) was recently awarded the title of the finest amateur golf hole in the country. Our superb greens have a reputation for being some of the truest anywhere. The course provides a stern but fair challenge to those who take it on be they the average club amateur or a PGA professional golfer. A round at Brickendon will linger in the memory for all the right reasons. Brickendon Grange Golf Club is a private members golf club with a membership in excess of 600 consisting of men, women and juniors who enjoy equal playing privileges. The course was designed by C.K.Cotton and the club recently celebrated its Golden Jubilee.

We offer a variety of membership categories all at competitive rates; interest free easy payment terms are also available. Our unique attributes as a club and social hub have created a venue which has attracted companies eager to take advantage of our corporate membership packages. Located within 5 miles of the M25 north of London, the course is readily accessible to the visiting golfer who can take advantage of our attractive green fee rates. It is also an ideal venue for a society golf day, and we have many groups who return to our course year after year. Brickendon Grange is the perfect venue in Hertfordshire to host private events, wedding receptions, conferences and funeral receptions. As well as our Member’s Lounge, we have a choice of two function rooms, each with their own unique qualities. With a wide range of menus and packages to choose from, we cater for every need and with some of the finest views available it is hard to find a more scenic location.

he land on which Brickendon Grange stands was once part of the Manor of Brickendonbury, built as a family home in 1825 for the Trotter family. The mansion known as the Grange, and now the clubhouse, was built in 1859. Many of the building’s original features still stand today. The home and surrounding 160 acres were purchased by the fifteen original founder members of Brickendon Grange Golf Club. The estate was put up for sale in 1964 and the actual construction of the course was started in 1967 and the first holes opened that year. The course was designed by C.K Cotton and was constructed by V.E.B Ltd. Between them they have designed and built many famous courses throughout the world.

The 1970’s saw many improvements which shaped the clubhouse and course as we know it now. During the 1980’s the same striving for excellence continued. A thousand trees and shrubs were planted. Those improvements have been built on since and year on year the course has continued to evolve into the outstanding course it is now. 2016 marked the 50th anniversary of the club since it first opened. Today we have a course and clubhouse which would have given as much pleasure to our founders as it gives to our members and visitors today.

fter the short walk past the front of the impressive clubhouse you reach the opening hole...

1st Hole - Bayford View. This testing opening par five requires a certain amount of bravery as out of bounds runs all the way down the right hand side and your second shot is blind. Once negotiated, the green awaits invitingly at the base of the hill.

2nd Hole - Blackfan Rise. This 339 yard hole has a sloping fairway from left to right down towards a stream that meanders along the length of the fairway so a tee shot down the left hand side is the ideal line. The approach is uphill to a green that slopes from front to back so exercise caution on your way back if you finish past the flag. 3rd Hole - Fanshaws. Although one of the shorter par 4’s on the course at just over 300 yards, the challenge is to master the raised sloping right to left green.

4th Hole - The Rookery. An uphill par 4 that plays every one of its 452 yards from the back tee. The smart golfer will play this as a par 5 and hope for a putt to drop on the two tiered green. 5th Hole - Captain’s Drive. This testing dog leg to the right requires an accurate tee shot to set up a view of the narrow, well guarded green with water awaiting the miss hit approach.

6th Hole - The Tower. The first and friendliest of the par 3’s has two cross bunkers 30 yards short distorting the distance but a nice straight hit over these should set you up for a good chance of a par. 7th Hole - Nobles Fade. A second dog leg to the right is once again all about position to set up your approach shot. Big hitters attempt to cut the corner by driving over the huge trees to set up a short pitch to the green but for most of us mere mortals, taking aim for the marker cross is the wisest move.

8th Hole - Crook. At 358 yards off the back tee, this is a dog leg from right to left around a pond that can interfere with your tee shot or approach! A well placed drive sets up a good view of one of the flatter putting surfaces on the course. 9th Hole - Juniper. A challenging par 3 with a narrow entrance to the green with bunkers left and right. The undulating green requires a fine touch to complete the front nine.

10th Hole - Firs Dip. This 328 yard par 4 is an inviting start to the back nine. Play across the dip and over the hill and a large slightly raised green awaits. 11th Hole - Moorhens. At 199 yards from the back tee, this is the longest of the par 3’s. The cross bunkers not only catch the miss hit shot but also create the image that the hole is shorter than it looks. Once over the bunkers, the ball is free to run onto the green that is protected at both sides by grassy hollows.

• COURSE TOUR •

12th Hole - Cottons Choice. At 427 yards this par 4 has a generous fairway, with bunkers further down the hole on the right then left. A long accurate approach is required as the ball can be swept away on the left side of the green. A tiny shelf on the back right side of the green is a popular pin position for the clubs big events! 13th Hole - Langwhang. The first par 5 on the back nine requires some thought: after negotiating the narrow tree lined fairway the hole opens out to present a trio of bunkers that cross the fairway diagonally. It’s a risk and reward moment, lay up short leaving a long approach shot or take on the bunkers to leave a shorter shot into the green.

14th Hole - White Stubbs. A generous looking fairway guarded only by two fairway bunkers on the right hand side that may catch the sliced tee shot. The approach needs pin point accuracy as your ball can easily run off this upturned saucer of a green leaving a tricky chip or worse still, a pond awaits to the left of the green. 15th Hole - High Tee. An inviting view down the hill from the tee encourages you to attack this par 5 measuring just under 500 yards. Many view this hole as the “Quiet before the storm” as the last three holes present a challenging finish but not before negotiating the tricky undulating green.

16th Hole - Aldenham. A long uphill par 4 that turns gently to the left favouring the big hitters. Once near the raised green, an accurate approach is required to set up any chance of success. 17th Hole - Ace of Herts. Named for its beauty and difficulty, this hole is not for the faint hearted. Negotiate the narrow tee shot and you are faced with a stunning view of the green from the top of the hill. The fairway then sweeps down towards a sizeable pond before climbing back up the slope to the green cut into the landscape.

18th Hole - The Grange. An uphill par 3 provides a wonderful view of the clubhouse but there is work to be done to finish your round on a high note. An extra club will help you reach this large raised two tier green setting you up nicely for a visit to the 19th hole.

rickendon Grange Golf Club’s 19th century manor clubhouse is equipped with a fully stocked pro shop, changing rooms, a golfer’s lounge and two fabulous function rooms, each with their own unique qualities.

Our member’s lounge is the heart of our club and is steeped in history. Within the clubhouse you can find the achievements of our members on a variety of honour boards.

The retractable sliding doors provide an array of light into the lounge, with the terrace as an extension to this recently refurbished area. Equipped with an abundance of comfortable seating and parasols for sunlight cover, the terrace provides the ideal viewing platform of the 18th hole. Our member’s lounge or patio area are the perfect place to enjoy something to eat or drink, and watch other golfers finish their round.

Throughout the clubhouse we provide free Wi-Fi and ample parking to all members and guests. The clubhouse has step free access and is accessible from a long, picturesque driveway and over looks our beautiful country setting.

he Oak Room, the original historic oak panelled dining room of the 19th century manor house. Fit with its stunning fireplace and an imposing grand chandelier has been preserved to maintain the traditional aspects of the building.

ur fabulous Grange suite was officially opened on 4th May 2019 after a £1.3Million redevelopment of the clubhouse. A stunning room with a modern contemporary feel. Hosting its own bar, rest rooms, projector, in house PA, led mood lighting, dance floor and outside private terrace that wraps around the Grange suite overlooking some of the most breath-taking views in Hertfordshire.

This function room holds up to 132 for a seated dinner service and holds 200 for a more informal affair. The Grange suite is therefore suited to a manner of events including weddings, birthdays, engagements, parties, celebrations of life, corporate meetings, team building days, golf days and charity events just to name a few.
