BASILDON TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB HAS BEEN
ESTABLISHED IN THE COMMUNITY SINCE IT’S CREATION IN 1946.
The Club continues to grow and for next season will have three adult teams playing Saturdays across steps 6 to 8 of the football pyramid, a Sunday over 35’s Veterans team and an adult Sunday women’s side, together with three youth sides (under 13, 15 and 16). We are looking to add further teams over the coming years.
We are primarily based at the Basildon Sport and Leisure Club on Gardiners Way with our Reserve, A Team, Veterans, Youth teams and women’s side playing Our first team are based nearby at the Basildon United stadium in Gardiners Close as part of a ground share agreement.
We pride ourselves on being a community club with strong links to local businesses, organisations,
schools and social media. We firmly believe in the benefits football offers our players, supporters and the general community by promoting healthy physical and social activity. Our social media side is growing each year with over 1,800 followers on Facebook and over 4,300 on twitter.
We are continuing to increase our Social Media output to get more interaction with the football world as well as the local general community. Basildon Town FC is a not for profit organisation with all adult players and parents of Youth teams paying match fees towards the substantial costs of running the Club. This includes Football Association affiliations, pitches, referees/officials, match and training balls, training equipment, first aid equipment and training ground costs. Additional funding through social events and much appreciated sponsorship ensures we continue to develop and progress.
HISTORY
FOUNDED IN 1946 BASILDON TOWN FC IS THE OLDEST FOOTBALL CLUB IN THE TOWN.
Basildon Town were formed in 1946 and have played in various leagues over the years starting in the Thurrock Combination League then moving onto the Parthenon League and the Basildon League. In 1959 we joined forces with local rivals Pitsea United and in 1966 became founder members of the newly formed Essex Olympian Football League and were hugely successful for a few years. In 1969 the clubs split into two once more with Basildon Town carrying on in the Essex Olympian League.
We were forced to pull out of the Essex Olympian Football League at the end of the 1970-71 season.
The Club then joined the Southend and District League Premier Division and gradually rebuilt over the next 10 years. In season 1980-81 the first team won the Premier League and the reserves won their divisional cup for the third year running. At the start of the 1981-82 season we returned to the Essex Olympian Football League. The reserves also joined the Olympian League a few years later following the set up of a reserve section within the Olympian League.
The 1980’s and early 1990’s were largely unproductive on the field. In the late 1990’s the first team
had a period of success winning their divisional league in 1998-99 and winning the Basildon Sports Council Trophy on 2 occasions and also the Stanford Charity Cup.
During the years following 2000 our first team had some success in cup competitions but league honours evaded the club. By 2010/11 we were playing in Senior Division 3 with the reserve side in the Reserve Division Three.
The Club suffered an almost mortal blow in the summer of 1971 when, out of the blue, we were evicted from our home ground Gun Meadow.
In recent years the first team have risen from Division Two in the Essex Olympian League to the Premier Division, along the way there was a League and Cup double and several top two finishes. Then in season

2021-22 we secured promotion to the Eastern Counties Thurlow Nunn Division 1 South League (a League that covers sides from Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk and East London) and since then we have narrowly missed out on promotion to the Essex Senior League. Midway through last season saw a change in first team management personnel. We now have an excellent team in place with people who have a long standing association and commitment to the Club. They have compiled a young squad whom we are sure will continue to take our Club forward. Under their leadership last season the team reached the final of the League Challenge losing 2-1 to Mulbarton who will be playing in the Isthmian North League next season.
Our Reserve side were crowned champions of the Essex Olympian League Division 3 in 2022-23 and 2023-24, then gained a further promotion from Division 2 to Division 1 in the following year where they currently play.
Our A team was promoted from the Southend Borough League in 2021-22 into Division 4 of the Essex Olympian League. They have since been promoted to Division 3 where they are presently plying their trade.
OUR RESERVES WERE CROWNED CHAMPIONS OF ESSEX OLYMPIAN LEAGUE DIVISION 3 IN 2022/23 AND DIVISION 2 IN 2023/24

They are a very young side and are fulfilling their prime purpose of providing a pathway for youth players into adult football.
Our Women’s Sunday side have only just just joined us and next season will be playing in Division 2 of the Essex County Women’s Football League. They had a very good season in 2025/26 finishing 2nd and gaining promotion. We are very much looking forward to having them as part of the Club and achieving further success.
Our Youth Section was reorganised at the end of season 2024/25 to make it more inclusive and accountable within the whole Club structure. We now have 3 Youth teams currently playing in the under 12, 14 and 15 age groups.
Our principles for youth football remain the same in that we offer local children the opportunity to play football in a competitive but safe environment.
It also gives them a clear pathway into adult football.
All 3 teams had a really good season in 2025/26 with the then under 12’s achieving a League and Cup double the under 14’s reaching 2 Cup Finals and winning their respective League and the under 15’s producing a number of strong performances and will come back stronger next season. All the managers and coaches are thoroughly checked to ensure there is a robust Child Welfare and Safeguarding policy in place.
This is our 80th year as a Club and we are planning a large celebration reunion in October to be held at Basildon Sport and Leisure Cub.

OUR YOUNGER SUPPORTERS AND LOCAL YOUTH FOOTBALL CLUBS HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE MASCOTS AT ALL OF OUR 2025/26 HOME GAMES.
This included entry to the ground with a paying adult, meeting the management team and players with a tour of the ground prior to the game, walk out with the players at the start of the game, a training session and penalty shoot out on the pitch at half time, with the added bonus of being able to watch the match in its entirety.
