Living alone in the UK is exciting, but money can feel stressful.

This is normal everything is new.

Learning how to manage money is a skill, not something you are born knowing. You don’t need to be perfect!!!

Living on your own is exciting, but it also means making choices with money. :-)

You don’t need Starbucks to start your day homemade coffee works just as well

You don’t need to call an Uber to go to class every day the local bus can get you there You don’t need to use dry cleaners for all clothes!

Understanding your spending helps you see what you really need and what you can save.

Save Money on Food

Food costs add up quickly. Try:

Cook at home more often

Buy supermarket own brands

Shop at Aldi or Lidl

Use student discounts and loyalty cards

Freeze leftovers instead of wasting food

Try planning meals for the week — it saves money and time. If you need a planner: Try Google Calendar Or use paper planners from the Student Experience Office

If you need furniture, try the local second-hand market first. It’s cheaper and often in good shape

People also sell things they don’t need anymore on Vinted go explore, you might find a surprise!

If you can’t cook or are too tired, try the app Too Good To Go. They sell unsold food from shops and restaurants at a low price

Travel Smart

Transport in the UK can be expensive.

Use a student Oyster card or railcard Walk or cycle for short trips

Book train tickets a month ahead — most of the time, it will be cheaper

Avoid peak travel times if possible

Plan journeys before you go

Living independently means paying bills, but some costs are simple to manage:

Turn off lights and unplug devices

Share internet and streaming with housemates

Show the council your enrolment letter
