Letter from the Board Chair Dear LREI Community, As we look back on the past year and celebrate what we’ve accomplished together, I am reminded once again of what makes LREI such a remarkable and mission-driven school. One of the things that I am most proud of in my role as Board Chair is how thoughtfully we weigh every decision against our mission to ensure that we consistently honor the dignity and equity of all members of our community. From the resources we place in classrooms to our competitive faculty salaries and our commitment to financial accessibility, we aim to steward our resources in ways that reflect our values. Prioritizing equity is always important, but not always simple. It can also be costly, and yet we refuse to cut corners on fairness. Your generosity empowers us to make the mission-aligned decisions that define LREI. It truly takes all of us, working together and stretching together, to create and sustain this extraordinary community. Thank you for your incredible generosity over the past year. We know many worthy causes are asking for your time, attention, and support, and we are deeply grateful that you have chosen to make LREI a philanthropic priority. Your gifts to The 2024-2025 Fund for LREI totaled $1,426,878. The Art Party & Auction was another highlight, generating $180,000 in net proceeds. From more than 150 fee-free field trips to peer-leading financial aid and exceptional professional development, your support makes a tangible, daily impact. Special thanks are also due to those who contributed to the renovation of our community gathering spaces. From the refreshed auditorium on Sixth Avenue to the fully renovated Performing Arts Center at the High School, we are profoundly grateful for the philanthropic commitment that brought these improvements to life. This work continues as we preserve our landmarked facades and sustain our buildings for the next century. Thank you to LREI’s 35 trustees. I'm excited to introduce our newest Board members, whose fresh insights and dedication to LREI's mission will strengthen our governance. Letter from the Director Dear LREI Community, Thank you all for another wonderful year at LREI. We always say that our community is our greatest strength, and you came through once again in 2024-2025. Your generosity and dedication to the school is inspiring and deeply appreciated. A special thanks to our hardworking Fund volunteers for achieving our highest parent participation in five years! This milestone reflects not just financial support, but the deep sense of shared purpose that defines our community. The 2025 Art Party and Auction proved to be a highlight of our community calendar, generating $180,000 in support for our program and community. The event beautifully showcased our commitment to accessibility through our distinctive pay-what-you-wish ticketing model and wide range of price points. My heartfelt thanks go out to all who participated. Our dedicated Parents Association volunteers remain the backbone of our vibrant community. From coordinating special events to facilitating meaningful affinity group discussions and fostering connections, your efforts create a lasting impact throughout our school. Thank you to our alumni, alumni families, and grandparents for sharing your LREI stories, coming to events, engaging with our social media and publications, volunteering, and for your financial support. Your active participation strengthens our school. Thank you to our faculty and staff, whose creativity, dedication, and unwavering commitment to progressive education inspire us daily. Your work extends far beyond the classroom, shaping not just academic growth but the development of thoughtful, engaged citizens. And, of course, thank you to our students, who remind us every day why this work matters. Your curiosity, courage, and compassion are the heart of everything we do at LREI. Celebrating Our Class of 2025 The Class of 2025, now proud LREI alumni, celebrated their achievements together in the beloved spring traditions of Field Day, Prom, and Senior Banquet. On June 11, our community gathered at NYU’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts to honor their graduation. Tómas ’26 set the tone with a traditional piano processional as the graduates made their entrance. The ceremony showcased the talents of the LREI Senior Band, the LREI Class of 2025 Singers, and the Elisabeth Irwin Singers. Suko Bey ’25 and Leela Ting ’25 delivered inspiring speeches. The event concluded with the presentation of diplomas by Adele de Biasi Pelz. Congratulations, Class of 2025! We eagerly anticipate the exciting journeys that lie ahead for each and every one of you.

Meet our New Trustees for 2025-2026 Mark Domino Mark Domino is a digital innovator working at the intersection of technology and real estate. He is the founder of Spireworks, an app-based platform that illuminates iconic New York City buildings — including One World Trade Center, One Bryant Park, and 111 West 42nd Street — in support of philanthropic causes, brand activations, and civic engagement. Currently the Director of Digital at The Durst Organization, Mark also serves as chairperson of the Real Estate Board of New York’s Tech Committee, convening industry leaders to address emerging challenges and opportunities in real estate technology and policy. Mark began his academic journey at the University of Delaware, where he received a graduate fellowship, and later earned a master’s degree in Music Composition at Brown University. He has taught at both Brown and the Rhode Island School of Design, including a graduate-level course in RISD’s Digital Media MFA program. His teaching experience, rooted in systems thinking and interdisciplinary collaboration, continues to shape his approach to complex, real-world innovation. Mark’s work consistently bridges digital and physical environments in imaginative, human-centered ways. He is also a proud LREI parent of Frank (’31), who joined the community with the migration of students from The Blue School.
Adrian Jones A lifelong New Yorker now living in Brooklyn, Adrian joined the LREI board as the PA co-president in 2025. Adrian and his wife, Allison Silverman, have been active members of the LREI community since their children, Antonia (’30) and August (’33), joined the school in 4s. Adrian has served as the Middle School PA co-vice president, co-chair of the Camping Committee, and is a founder of the LREI parents’ forum on digital life. Adrian is a designer of theatrical spaces and architectural lighting. In New York, Adrian’s set designs have been seen at the Lyceum Theater on Broadway, The Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Public Theater, New York City Players, PS122, LABrynth Theater, The New Group, Target Margin, The Cherry Lane Theater, among others. Regionally, Adrian has worked with Theater Works Hartford, Kirk Douglas Theater, Geffen Playhouse, Baltimore Center Stage, Arena Stage, Coconut Grove Playhouse, and the Pasadena Playhouse, among others. Adrian’s design for Sufjan Stevens’ "Age of Adz" tour traveled to North America, Europe, and Australia. Adrian’s architectural lighting design includes commercial adaptive re-use, retail, public space, and residential projects. His designs have been featured in Dwell magazine, Apartment Therapy, Surface, and Chance magazines. Adrian has served as a design teacher at the Pennsylvania Governor’s School For The Arts, as a guest lecturer at UC Irvine, and as a guest critic at the University of Minnesota and Hunter College. Adrian received his B.A. from Occidental College and an MFA from the Yale School of Drama.

Dan Schwartz Dan Schwartz and his family have been members of the LREI community since 2013. Professionally, Dan has over twenty years of experience researching and investing in global financial markets. Throughout his career, he has focused on studying global macroeconomic cycles and their impact on financial markets. His experience traverses roles ranging from economist to investment strategist to portfolio manager. His current role is Head of Macro at Energy Aspects, a leading global consultancy and data provider focused on the energy industry. He leads EA’s ongoing analysis of macroeconomic data and financial market developments, working closely with Medley Advisors (EA’s economic policy research division) and EA’s Quant Analysis teams to shape their insights into actionable trade ideas. His experience traverses all major asset classes, with deep expertise in foreign exchange and global interest rates. Dan holds an M.A. in International Relations and Economics from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and an MBA in Finance from Columbia Business School. He completed his undergraduate studies at Tufts University, earning a B.A. in International Relations. Dan and his wife, Cindy, are enthusiastic LREI parents of Maddie (’27) and Charlotte (’32).
Jessica Tan Jessica Tan joined the faculty at LREI in 2016 as a Mandarin teacher and was appointed to the Board in 2025 to represent the high school faculty. She teaches Mandarin II-V to ninth-through-twelfth graders. Her classes cover both Chinese culture and important conversational topics. Jessica earned a Master’s degree in TESOL and Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language from New York University’s Steinhardt School. In addition to teaching, she supervises the Anime Club and the Animal Justice Club. She also serves as a high school advisor.

Facilitating Community Campaign Thank you to the donors to the Facilitating Community campaign, our capital improvements project. The physical spaces that house our community play a vital role in our progressive program, helping to foster a supportive, inclusive, and collaborative environment that enhances students’ learning experiences. In the first two phases, the Sixth Avenue Auditorium and the High School’s Performing Arts Center were refreshed and revitalized. Art Party and Auction The 2025 Art Party & Auction was held April 23 at kurimanzutto, featuring artwork by nearly 200 emerging and established artists from our community and beyond. The Art Party & Auction began almost 50 years ago as a grassroots parent fundraising initiative rooted in the school’s close ties to the downtown art community. This year we raised $219,544 to support our progressive education program! Save the Date for our next community fundraising event — The Big Shindig on March 12! Street Fair 2025 The LREI community came together on June 1st for the Street Fair, transforming Charlton Street into a beautiful celebration of school spirit and community. Parent and student volunteers brought energy to an array of fun activities, including the chance for students to dunk their favorite teacher, principal, or even Director Phil Kassen! Each Parents Association committee and affinity group ran a booth, displaying the vibrancy of our community. The celebration also featured memorable musical performances showcasing the talent in all three divisions. The success of this fantastic community event reflects the hard work and dedication of the Street Fair committee and all of the volunteers, who made this special day possible. Faculty and Staff Appreciation Committee
Organizes and coordinates opportunities for families to celebrate the faculty and staff at LREI by bringing in homemade or store-bought goodies. The committee oversees Tuesday Treats, a welcome-back breakfast in September, and special holiday events. We also decorate the lobby and organize extra celebrations during FSA week in the Spring.
Graphic Arts and Communication Committee Supports PA-sponsored events and other committees in need of catchy flyers, posters, and social media graphics. Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA)
For parents who identify as LGBTQIA+, as well as parents of children who identify as LGBTQIA+, promoting an inclusive, welcoming and safe environment across the school. This includes conversations, sharing of resources, access to LGBTQIA+ community leaders and experts, and participation in the school’s pride parade float.
Jewish Affinity Group (JAG)
Provides a safe space for Jewish families from diverse backgrounds to come together for support and community across school divisions. The group regularly meets for discussion and celebration, with conversations centered on the experience for our children at LREI, as well as Jewish identity – at large – in this time of rising antisemitism.

Why I Give Like many of you, I have been involved with LREI for many years. I was a student at the school, starting in the Fives and graduating in June of 1971. I am an LREI parent. My son graduated in 2003. I have been an active alum and was chair of the Board of Trustees for ten years. I am grateful for all that I have gained from my involvement with the school — the passionate, inclusive, and reality-based teachings; the inspiring teachers; the (still) loving and supportive classmates — the impact has lasted for my entire life. My gifts to the school are much the same. Their impact lasts. It lasts in the experience of the students and teachers they support and in the school’s endowment, where they will provide income forever.
