Letter from the Board Chair
Dear LREI Community,
As we are immersed in another exciting year at LREI, I sincerely thank you for your support and dedication. It is an honor to serve as the chair of the Board of Trustees, and I am proud to represent our school.
Together, we raised $1,525,156 for The 2023-2024 Fund for LREI. This yearly support made a daily impact on our students, providing peer-leading financial aid, over 150 field trips, faculty professional development, fee-free domestic overnight trips, help with college search costs, and more.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of The Big Shindig Committee, the biennial event was another resounding success, raising over $400,000 for our program. Once again, LREI’s signature pay-what-you-wish ticket model was a testament to the inclusivity and generosity of our community. Thank you to everyone who bid, donated, or attended.
Our incredible Parents Association volunteers are the cornerstone of our dynamic community. Whether you organize events, lead affinity group conversations, or partner with our faculty and staff, your contributions make a profound difference and are greatly appreciated.
None of these achievements would be possible without the dedication of our faculty, staff, and volunteers, as well as the strong leadership of Phil Kassen and his team. You continue to make LREI a place where transformative education thrives.
I am also delighted to welcome our new trustees to the Board. Their diverse perspectives and deep commitment to our mission will be invaluable as we continue to guide LREI into the future. I look forward to the work we will accomplish in 2024-2025.

It is truly inspiring to witness the impact that each of you has on the life at LREI. Your collective efforts are the driving force behind LREI's dynamic program.
To our students, who arrive each day with a desire to learn, participate, and grow — your curiosity and questions power our school.
To our faculty and staff, who guide our students along their 14-year journey — your dedication to progressive pedagogy is the foundation of LREI's educational experience.

Celebrating Our Class of 2024
The Class of 2024 has officially joined the ranks of LREI's alumni after celebrating their years together in the beloved spring traditions of Field Day, Prom, and Senior Banquet. On June 12, our community came together at NYU's Skirball Center for the Performing Arts to honor the graduates. Tómas Y. ’26 set the tone by playing the traditional piano processional as the graduates made their entrance. The ceremony showcased the talents of the LREI Senior Band, the LREI Class of 2024 Singers, and the Elisabeth Irwin Singers. Kate Deming ’24 and Layla Grant-Simmonds ’24 delivered inspiring speeches. The event culminated with the presentation of diplomas by Adele de Biasi Pelz. Congratulations, Class of 2024! We eagerly anticipate the exciting journeys that lie ahead for each and every one of you.

2024-2025 New Trustees
Jason Bruno
Jason Bruno has been an active member of the LREI community since 2018. He is unofficially known to many as the “Mayor of LREI” and can be found greeting students, teachers, and fellow parents at Little Red Square during early morning drop-offs. Jason has also served as co-chair of FBS (Families of Black Students) during the 2021-22 school year.
Jason has been in the field of social services and child welfare for over a decade, serving as a preventive case planner and parent/child liaison for the Child Center of NY. He is currently enrolled at Fordham University Graduate School of Social Work, where he is scheduled to receive his master's degree in 2025. He is interning at a public school as part of Fordham GSS/NYC Public Schools Collaborative program. Previously, Jason interned at Columbia Grammar & Prep School, where he served as and social worker and counselor, partnering with fellow teachers, administrators, and parents to coordinate and facilitate social skills groups, counseling, and best practices for supporting the social and emotional well-being of students in the lower, middle, and upper school.
Jason is married to his lovely wife, Sherleen Bruno, who serves as the pre/lower school learning specialist at The Packer Collegiate Institute. Additionally, he currently has two kids enrolled at LREI; Skylar Bruno ’33 and Ethan Bruno ’31.
Robert Gutmann
Robby Gutmann and his family joined the LREI community in 2023. His two sons, Ozzy Gutmann ’33 and Archie Gutmann ’34, transferred from Blue School, which they both attended since the 2s program.
Professionally, Robby is a co-founder of both Stone Ridge Holdings Group and NYDIG, where he serves on the investment committee and the board of directors; he also mentors founders at Wolf, a startup accelerator. Robby graduated from Columbia University, where he majored in mathematics and minored in music. He currently lives in South Williamsburg, Brooklyn, with his wife, Jen, two sons, and two dogs, Riker and Ripley. When not parenting or working, he plays electric bass in a ‘90s-themed cover band.
Jerelyn Rodriguez Williams ’07
Bronx native Jerelyn Rodriguez Williams has over fifteen years of experience working in city politics, education, and the technology field. In 2016, she was named to Forbes’ “30 Under 30 Education” list. She is currently on the leadership council for South Bronx Rising Together and a board member at the New York City Employment & Training Coalition.
Jerelyn co-founded The Knowledge House (TKH) in 2014 to close the gaps in the education-to-employment pipeline by leading digital skills training in coding and design for underserved young people in the Bronx.
Previously, Jerelyn coordinated STEM after-school programs at Braven and was the Bronx field director for Reshma Saujani's 2013 campaign for New York City Public Advocate. In 2011, she joined Students for Education Reform (SFER) as the national program director, organizing and coaching college students in 35 states to advocate for education reform. Prior to SFER, Jerelyn worked in the public school system, teaching and designing programs.
Jerelyn has a degree in film studies from Columbia University and is an LREI alumna. She and her husband proudly reside in the Bronx, New York.
Jennifer Rogoff
Jennifer Rogoff currently serves as a co-president of the LREI Parent Association and volunteers for the admissions department. She has previously served as an LREI class parent representative and co-chair of various PA committees.
Jennifer worked for various companies in the fashion industry for more than a decade. Most recently, she was the vice president of merchandising, e-commerce, and retail for Ippolita, a fine jewelry company. Jennifer has a B.A. from Villanova University, where she majored in communications. She is also involved in various not-for-profit organizations.
Jennifer and her husband, Eric, are active members of the LREI community. They live in Manhattan with their two children, Benjamin Rogoff ’33 and Alexander Rogoff ’34, and their cavapoo, Teddy. In her free time, she enjoys running, cooking, and traveling.
Helena Tubis
Helena Tubis, born in Mexico and raised in New York City, began her career in the nonprofit sector, focusing on community organizing and fundraising. She dedicated her time to advocating for housing justice, immigrant and worker rights, and educational reform. In 2014, Helena earned her master's in food studies from New York University, marking a transition into the food industry. Over the past decade, she has embraced her entrepreneurial spirit at Kelvin Slush Co., a premium cocktail mix company serving establishments nationwide and internationally.
Helena pursued her undergraduate studies at Colby College, majoring in philosophy and Spanish literature. She is a proud mother of two daughters, Edie Gerson ’34 and Maize. Alongside her husband, Andrew, Helena lives in the East Village. Actively engaged in her community, she serves as the board secretary of their co-op and is an active LREI community member. She is a class parent, is on the planning committee for the Camping Trip, and is a member of Azucar! and JAG.
Paul Williams ’63
Paul Williams is a financial consultant advising investment managers and fund sponsors focused on the individual investor market nationwide. Previously, he was a managing director of Nuveen Investments, where he served in a number of different roles over his 40-plus years with the company. The major portion of his career concentrated on financing public infrastructure projects. In later years, he directed the firm’s new fund development and listed IPOs.
Paul has been a University of Pennsylvania trustee since 2000 and a board of advisors of Penn’s School of Arts and Science since 1995. He currently serves as emeritus in both roles. Paul was also president of Global Penn Alumni.
In 2007, Paul received the Robert L. Payton Award for Voluntary Service from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
For over 20 years, Paul served on the board of directors of Planned Parenthood affiliates, on various committees for strategic planning, budget and finance, and development, and as treasurer of PP Los Angeles.
Born and raised in New York, Paul attended LREI’s High School for three years, graduating in 1963. Following EI, Paul attended the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, receiving a B.S. in economics. Mid-career, he completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. Paul grew up in New York, spent most of his business career living and working in Chicago, and moved to Los Angeles, with his partner, Leslie Berger, in 2011.

The Big Shindig
Our biennial fundraising event, the Big Shindig, was held on March 4 at Guastavino's. Current and past parents, trustees, alums, faculty, and staff gathered for a celebratory evening to raise essential funds for our progressive program. Guests enjoyed a live DJ,a tequila lounge donated by Maestro Dobel, a photo booth, and specialty cocktails and mocktails created by Phil!
Thank you for your active participation in the silent auction, paddle raise, raffle, and "School Spirits" wine pull. Your generous support helped us surpass our $150,000 goal, raising over $400,000! We couldn't have done it without you!

Creates opportunities for parents and children to participate together in community service. This committee organizes a calendar of family-friendly volunteer activities that engage parents and students from all school divisions. Why I Give
Like many of you, I have been involved with LREI for many years. I was a student at the school, starting in the Fives and graduating in June of 1971. I am an LREI parent. My son graduated in 2003. I have been an active alum and was chair of the Board of Trustees for ten years. I am grateful for all that I have gained from my involvement with the school — the passionate, inclusive, and reality-based teachings; the inspiring teachers; the (still) loving and supportive classmates — the impact has lasted for my entire life.
My gifts to the school are much the same. Their impact lasts. It lasts in the experience of the students and teachers they support and in the school’s endowment, where they will provide income forever.
