LOOKING BACK Looking back over this seme ter we find that many changes have come about. In the first place we return ed in the fall to find that we were short two teach ers and had gained fiftyfour pupil s. In fact, durin g the seme ster Mr. Culler repor ts that half of the pupils were new to Whit tier w .it h the large st amou nt of shifti ng ever known here. The next thing that claimed out atten tion was the scrap drive. Pupils coming down the stree t looked like the city junk yard on parad e. Our chests bulged when Whit tier came out first with twenty-nine tons. We all joined the Junio r Red Cross and worked on thing s to make the soldiers at the Air Base happier, such as scrap books, tray favors, ping-pong paddles, and menu cards for Than ksgiv ing and Chris tmas dinners. We've all been wearing out the soles of our shoes since gas ration ing but there was a good point to it-w e got to have a little vacation while the teachers worked. But speak ing of vacations, our Chris tmas holiday was cut down three days. Graduatio n at the end of the semester will be held at Whit tier instead of at Lincoln High as it used to be. Anot her change is that there will be no new 7B's coming in. All in all the first seme ster was a bang-up semester.
