Through the years a lot has changed in Lincoln Northeast high school. The buildin g has taken a big change along with the students and faculty that walk these halls. Seventy years ago this school was built, and brought differe nt parts of the city together. And today the school has a wide variety of people. You look back to freshmen year and think abou t how fast the past 3 years went. But now you are counting down the days to graduation instead of the days unti I senior year. You are over high school and ready to start a new chapter of your life. Senior year goes by fast • but it can be an easy year for some and a hartj year for most. Your senior year consist of worries of not passing GOP O or getting all your com mun ity service hours done. Anatomy takes up most of your time, if you took the time demanding class. You just do whatever you can to know you are on the right track to graduate. From filling out college applications, deciding where to go, to still managing to get hours in at work and juggling that with school senior year is pretty stressfuI. Although ·it's stressful, it is also a fun packed year. It's the last time you'l l walk these halls with these friends you have known for years, attend the school dances, and cheer fello w classmates on at athletic events. It's official we are upperclassmen. No more being considered annoying or immature. Not only that but ·we also can go out to eat and choose what we want for lunch instead of having to stay i!} with less options. Looking back at sophomore and freshman year makes it shocking at how far we have come and how quickly the years have gone by. Then we are looking forward and suddenly our stomach gets crunched up into a knot with the thought of being a senior in less than a year. We now have to start thinking more about what we want to do after high --...■.~!!!!!!~~=~!!!! school and what college we plan on attending. It's mindblowing and flabbergasting. To sum it all up we are constantly hustling from school activities, to work, _and last but not least homework. Basically, you have the crappy end of the deal. Yes, it's one plus up from being fresh "meat," but you don't get any of the bonuses. You still have to eat in, you might still be waiting for the big one six, you have the same lanyard design as the freshmen, you can't wait to park in the lot, and you finally want to be called an upperclassmen. Then again ... you aren't considered annoying and short like the freshmen, you aren't studying 24/7 like the juniors, and you don't have to dread college applications like the seniors. However the sophomore class still stands out awkwardly in the high school hierarchy. Becoming an upper classmen next year is something to look forward to. Sure, the academic level of classes will sky rocket, but many new doors will open. You can now ask your big crush to Prom in unforgettable ways, and have many college visits. You will now get the respect you have been waiting for. After all, it is only a matter of time before living the good life, and enjoying all the other perks that being an upper classman has to offer.

It is not just the students who keep the valued traditions at Lincoln Northeast High School, but the faculty. They arrive at school before most students, and stay late into the afternoon. The average teacher has five regular classes, and two plan periods. During those plan periods, they create and develop class work, handle noon duty, or help a struggling student. The faculty is committed to the success of every student. Besides just teaching or working, most faculty are involved in the school through other activities. Whether it is sponsoring a club, chaperoning a dance, or going to the football game on Friday night, staff contribute to the school's community. Another unique thing about Lincoln Northeast High School is the tradition of having former students return to the school as teachers, or staff. Whether it's your first homecoming or your last, you always remember something about it. For freshmen it is very special because it is the only dance they can attend without an older classman as a date. Once again, the cheerleaders put on the dance. They spent all morning of the dance decorating the school, from the concourse, all the way to the gym. Along with having the responsibility of decorating, they get to choose the theme. This year was Midnight Masquerade. The decorations were of the French Quarter, skylines, jazz bands, and jokers. Another fun thing about homecoming, is getting the chance to get nominated for homecoming court. This year our royalty consisted of, Natalie Bohac and Michael Cornwell as the freshmen royalty, Melanie Clapp and Kyle Thorsen as the sophomore royalty. Hunter Mcclellan and Braxton Adams for junior royalty, and lastly Brittanie Schrader and Carter Hulinsky as homecoming queen and king. It could definitely not be debated as to whether or not Northeast had one of the best student sections. When students attended the games, they did not just sit and not cheer. I do not even know if I can remember the student section ever being quiet. The cheerleaders and the Star Strutters help keep the enthusiasm. It is our job as a whole student body to support and cheer on our athletics no matter what the score or outcome is. With a little support and spirit for a team, a school can go a long way!

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it is much more serious than that. This_year's 2010 • varsity football team has worked long and hard for their achievements. The season started with summer two-a-days, in the 100-degree weather. It all paid off by starting off the season with a four game winning streak. Fullback Dillon Gushard said that coach Smith's hardcore speeches got him and the team pumped up for their games. The streak ended when the team played Southeast, ranked #2, losing in the last seconds of the game due to a controversial call. Wingback . · Russell Batista stated that his best memory was the teams hard fight against Southeast. In the first round of playoffs, the team beat the #5 seed, Omaha Westside. They went into overtime, and had the confidence to go for the two-point conversion, just like the game against Northstar. Making it to the second round of playoffs, for the first time since 2006, they played Millard North. Unfortunately their season came to an end against this #1 seed team. Sixteen girls, one • ,.,., ,~rc•,-...., coach, three contacts, one ambition. The team was given 12 weeks to train, to become a family and to reach the ultimate goal of going to state on November 13th. Coach Songster pushed the girls to strive for success 1 this year. New additions were added to the team to make the team even stronger then last year. Senior Molly Snoozy said, "I liked that everyone gets along well and how we're a family on and off the court." Many obstacles were faced for this years team, but they pulled through with an even better record then last years team. Senior Ariel Buhr said " I can't choose one memory, it wou Id just have to be all of the weird mo- _ ....__ ments we had and the laughs that were shared." Senior Ciara H~geholz added, "My favorite memory was our preseason trip up to Wahoo." Over all the volleyball team showed much improvement and ended the season as a runner-up in districts. Golf; a precision dub-and-ball sport, in which competing players, use many types of clubs. Objective to the game: get the ball into a 4 inch hole. Easy enough right? The varsity girls golf team returned this year full strength with four returning varsity members; Melissa MacIntosh, Kelsey Marshall, Shelby Kouba, and Mattie Maclnstosh. Natalie Sercl, a transfer from Pius X, fi Iled the fifth spot on the varsity team. The team enjoyed working with their Coach, Tom Ochsner along with playing together in their tournaments and 'scrambles'. Much improvement was seen from this team compared to last year. The team had three individuals medal this season. Melissa Macintosh medaled at three different events, Kelsey Marshall and Natalie Sercl each medaling at one invite. "I really truly enjoy every aspect of the wonderful game of golf. It really suits my fancy." said Natalie Sercl. The mo.st memorable meet for Shelby Kouba was the East Spartan Invite at Highlands Golf Course. The conditions for the day consisted of blowing rain, winds reaching 25 mph, and a course of difficult landscape. The Northeast girls had a tight district this year fighting for the top three-team spots to make the cut for state. The team traveled to Hastings to .play 18 holes at Lochland Country Club. After finishing the round the girls ended up in 4th by only nine strokes. Although the team couldn't qualify for the second year in a row, Melissa MacIntosh tied for 10th place and continued on to State in Norfolk. By: Kelsey Marshall

Boys tennis was stacked this year, with five returners from last years all-star team where everyone made it past their first round . in state. 'This year the boys were faced with new challenges and stiff competition. On October 14th the boys • headed off to Omaha, hoping to conquer state. Matt Schwindt, a senior at #1 doubles reminised on his favorite memory th is season saying, "Beating Fremont's #1 doubles 9 to 7 in the dual was the best." Dan Kreuzberg and Ku rt Berchtold won their first round in state in the # 2 doubles categorey. When asked about his favorite part of state, junior Dan Kruzberg replied, "It was fun to watch the· finals because they had so much talent and determination." "You can fight with out ever winning a race. But never win a race, without • a fight." The boys on the varsity cross country team ran in nine difficult meets this year, and in each and every one they gave there all. "I joined XC because i love to run and I love how it mentally cha Ilenges you." says sophomore Daniel Otto. Some of the boys best bonding time was during the route days, "Running 8-10 miles gives you a lot of time to talk. A lot of time to get to know your team!" chimed in the team. Having four coaches, including two of our very own, Mr. John Snoozy and Mr. Jeff Hansen, each one of the. boys improved there race times dramaticly by the end of the season. "Running is the greatest metaphor for Iife because you get out of it what you put into it." Oprah Winfrey once said. Lincoln Northeast's varsity cross country team certainly put a lot into their practices, running many difficult speed workouts, and up to 10 miles consecutively. "Blood, sweat, and tears. We had it all. We worked our rearends off like crazy, and never gave up." Nicole Bentzinger said when asked about the team. Before each race the girls wou Id get into a circle, grab hands, and Pamela McLeod wou Id say a prayer. "The prayer gets us pumped up, and modivates us to run our best," senior Skyler Beard said. The girls spent ti me in the bus and at spaghetti feeds to bond. Almost every girl agreed that th is years Omaha Bryan Invite was the most fun. Together they collected 6 medals! The LN E varsity softball team had a good season over. all. Despite losing some games, they came out having fun, bonding as friends, and not just teammates. The girls didnt make it to state but, they i ~~:J:; played well. When asked what her favorite thing about softball was senior Linsdey Dill said, "Its very unpredictable! Thats what makes it exciting. Someone could hit a home run at bat then strike out the next." The girls had good chemistry, and and got along. They improved a lot from last year, had fun and ended up with a great season.

Girls Softball

Th is season the Lady Rockets basketball team had four returning starters from last years team. When the Lin.coin Journal Star preseason ratings came out, the girls were ranked number eight in class A. • With their wins ranging from East, to North Star, to Millard North, it is safe to say the Lady Rockets started on top and ended on top. Senior Molly Snoozy was asked what her favorite team bonding activity was and she replied, "When we turn music on, and all dance together." The girls varsity basketball team this year was full of a wide variety of ladies. It included three freshmen, six sophomores, three juniors, and summed it up with four seniors. Thankfully, they all molded well together in a matter of time. This resulted in a winning season, and a new sisterhood. Chante' Williams, a senior, has been on the varsity team for four years. When we asked her why she had such a love for the game, she answered, "I just grew to love it. You're always playing different people, and making new friends, which has made it really fun." Intimidation plays a big role in the sport of basketball. The Lady Rockets not only overcame the intimidation of the game, but they conquered their competition while doing so. Girls Varsity Basketball

"Basketball does not build character, it reveals it." The Northeast boys worked hard during this season. Senior Mitch Pepmuller laughed, "All we do is run, run, run no matter what." They spent many hours everyday in the gym practicing drills and perfecting their shots. "We believe in working hard everyday, and working together to get the job done," senior Dillon Gushard said. Before game rituals include sitting in the locker room and thinking about what they need to get done during the game. Many of the boys get pumped up by listening to hardcore music or just tuning everything out. All of the boys agreed they were a very tight knit team and got along well. They never put each other down and always encouraged each other to do the best they could. The boys all spent time together both on and off the court. Being good friends helped them play even more as a team during games and practices. "Once on the way home from a victorious game, we rapped together in the back of the bus. That's has got to be my favorite memory of this season," senior Derek Hoodjer said. Each of the returning boys agree that they are looking forward to playing next year, and improving their fundamentals. They all hope that the team is as close next year as it was this year. Boys Varsity Basketball

Wrestling is one of the most complex, confusing, and exciting sports to watch. Unless you frequently attend meets, the scoring system can make you scratch your head in wonder. Thankfully, it is easy to catch on and en joy. Wrestling teaches discipline and determination. With all the pressure to stay within a weight class, a lot of wrestlers tend to shy away from junk food prior to weighing in. For many teenage boys, this can be more difficult than expected. The boys on the team were full of heart, and had a strong desire to win. Many of the wrestlers say that the season was long, full of hard work, but worth it. They had a good season full of laughs and memories. Junior Jerred Fox said, "Well, I've worked hard and I have the best record right now, and that was my goal. I try to be the best I can be." All of the boys on the team worked hard to acheive their own personal goals, and goals as a team. They wou Id probably all agree that they all succeeded. With a tough year full of triumphan·t wins, and tragic losses, the boys gained more than just statistics. These determined boys gained a team, and family. By: Alex Stenka

This years Girls swim team has been working hard in and out of the water. Training not only there bodies but also there minds. The girls have been pushed to new limits with the recent addition of two new coaches. Katie Davis taking over the assistant coaching postition and Kayla Torski taking the Head diving coach position. Junior Christine Cullinane states "Last year was fun but this year is alot more intense." The girls had high hopes for this years swim team and with support of their coaches and teammates they new it could be done. This year the girls have been alot closer and more supportive towards each ones success. The girls team had another high amount of wins for th is winter season. Senior Captain Claire Borer states " my favorite moment this season was partying on the bus ride home from Beatrice, " The girls try to get everyone pumped up before the meets by blasting there music and fist pumping to the beat "states Junior Jessica Bohlken. They won Eight out of the eleven dual meets this year. "Before each race Im nervous and then as soon as i here the buzzer and I dive in all the nerves just go away." Say Senior Melissa McIntosh. EAch girl has there own way of preparing for a race but that will never stop the tradition. Before every meet the girls huddle up on deck and say a cheer. Girls Varsity Swimming

Swimming; the method in which humans move their bodies through water. Diving into the water c1nd swimming from point A to point B in a big blue liquid . The sport of swim ming in itself is not as easy as it sounds. With swimmers impro ving their stroke and technique they shred off seconds in the events. This year the Rocket boy's swim team came back with a greater amou nt of numbers and depth as well as an improved skill level. Many of the boys said they warm up and focus before their race. For many of the boys, music is their key to prep for a sucessful race. Although a lot of nerves rush through thier bodies and minds they never lose their focus. When 11 asked Wha t do you do to prep for a race?", Freshman, Kyle Thorson said, "I warm up and focus. I always make sure my goggles are on tight! " Out of the many events with differ ent stroke and length, the 100 Fly is Sophomore, Brian Edwards' favorite. Brian said, "Fly is my favorite event because I am good at it." The Rockets work ed hard together to achieve the same comm on goals; get better and achieve success. From work ing together the team bonded and became close with one another. With the team f u I of friends and good people, pranks put on by the other teammates were always fun and entertaining, said some of the boys. Being apart of the track Lincoln Northeast track team, is like being a part of one big famrly. Although the boys all participate in different events they are always there to support each other through their competitions. The varsity team is made of about 20 boys, competing in 18 different events. Depending on the week the boys compete in up to four events per meet. When asked, Tut said that he did track for two reasons. "The track meets are a lot of fun, and i get to meet girls" Both Taylor Applebee and Corey Jones agreed that the 4x400 meter relay is their favorite event. "Its the last race, and the whole team is at the line to support us. Theres nothing better then being able to hear your team screaming for you." Taylor then smiled and added, "That race is what makes you man!" Each of the boys had different 'favorite memories' from this track season. Senior Mitch Pepmuller shared, "My favorite practice this year was when me and Chaz turned on the throwing field sprinklers." By: Lauren Bell

Varsity Boys Track

The varsity track and field girls team had a phenomenal track season this year. They commited all their time and dedication to working out and striving for goals that they made the year before. Sophomore Sam Coffey said, "My goal th is year was to he twice as good as I was last year. With the hard work and dedication I have devoted towards the track team, I would say that I have achieved that goal. I couldn't have done it without the help of my wonderiulcoachesandthe support of my teammates who have never given up on me." The field portoin of our team was on fire. They pushed to achieve highest scores every single meet. They had people support them and back them up the whole way. Our pole vault and shot put was also a very successful turn out this year for the Lincoln Northeast field team. The track section of the team was also rolling with wins ;3.nd new set ti mes. Beautiful hand offs were made between both of our relay teams; not once did they drop the stick. The girls deserve a round of applause for the terrific job that they did this season. It was a new season and the boys were tougher than ever. They played hard at each practice and put their hearts out in the game. Soccer is all about the dedication you put into the game. There is no Ill" in team; you work as a whole not a part. There were ups and downs , but no matter how much any player got knocked down, they still got up and played their all until the clock hit zero. They let the feet do the talking. Sophmore Kyle Thorson says that one accomplish. ment he hopes to achieve during the season is to score a goa I. When asked how this season went Peter Ngyen said, "It's hard to try and keep up with the new pace, but I couldn't wait to learn and grow from this experience." Th is years girls soccer team consisted of 1 8 varsity players, 8 JV swingers, and 6 coaches. We had two new and very experienced coaches that help push us to the best of our ability. Four out of five of the captains are planning on playing soccer outside of high school and conveniently they are all going to attend the same college, Concordia University. This was a group of girls who click very well. Senior Ciara Hegeholz's favorite bonding moment that the team shared was initiation. Most of these young talented girls started their soccer career at a very young age. The team had some very strong opponents. The team they looked the most forward to playing was Lincoln East because they have always had a pretty strong team and are good competitors. They are off to a good start with a record of 5-2. After almost making it to state last year, everyone expected big things from th is years team. Although many of last years team members graduated, the boys this year are making up for the loss. • Senior Rob Sherrill says, "We all work our best at practice to come out on top at the games. Our attitude at practice may be a bit unorthodox, but has been proven to get the job done." The year got off to a good start. With the regular season almost half way over, the boys have a winning season. Working together on the field has made it much easier since everyone is a friend off the field. An after practice ritual is playing "Rims In." "Practice is not complete without playing it," says senior Reed Svoboda. The whole team wants to go to state and win a few games while they are there. "Ohhh yeaaahhh!" and "o-v-e-r." are some of many quotes that sum up the fun filled season of the varsity girls tennis team. Tennis i_s a step-by-step game that takes stamina. Last season six of the Rocket girls tennis team went to state, many of them won their first round matches and continued playing. Coach Boeh le and the girls practice everyday after school and even on Saturdays. Practice really does make perfect because each and every year the team come _ . . ~ - - - - - - • back stronger and stronger When junior McKenzie Ferguson was asked about her favorite team bonding activity she claimed, "Road trips. I love when we al I pack up the minivan and go to Russ's to get donuts right before our out-oftown matches." The whole team concluded and agreed that, "We always are listening to music before games. Some of us even go to the extent of taking five hour energy drinks." Tennis is a mind game. You cannot beat yourself. You can play the toughest competetor out there and still beat them mentally. The Rocket boys golf team is made up of returning player? as well as a new varsity member this year. The Rockets have been working with Coach Larry Elwood to make their game the best it can be. They have played many holes at many courses in compeitio n throughou t .--:~~ the season. The Lincoln Journal Star stated that th is team was a solid group of good players and that much improvement would be seen over the season. When asked about the se son senior, Alex Svehla sai "Th is season can be described as a learning exper·ence. We had a lot young players with not much expierence, but they proceed ed to exceed expectations. The future of Northeast go is very bright." Alex Svehla is the only senior on the team. Therefore a similar team will be • returing next year to hit up the competiti on. • All the boys enjoyed their season and made great strides indiviually and together as a team. They utilized their physical ability as well as mental ability to keep cool in the game and finish the season strong.

With the record of 4-4, JV did not have as spectacular of a season as they had hoped. They still continued onward towards the few wins with their heads held high. The boys concurred a lot more than just a few wins and losses. According to Jared Vanderford, "Being a sophomore playing on a junior varsity team was the best part about being on JV." To this JV team, made up of both juniors, and sophomores, it was all about the teamwork . Who hit the hardest and threw the furthest, was what mattered most to this group of boys. The game consists of four, 15 minute quarters, and two halves. The team had a great deal of team work and dedication. Chris Walsh confessed. " The hardest practices were two-a-days because they were the most hectic." Keith Leaver said,"lt was a great season, and I en joyed playing next to some great people." Overall they worked hard and even with a few losses the team managed to pull out a few wins, and a great deal of fun. By: Alex Lee

Wit h a record of 8-12, the juni or varsity volleyball team achieved more than a couple of wins and losses. They achieved great friendships on and off the court. This years team consisted of four freshman, four sophomores, and four juniors. "I loved all of the girls and I loved our team," says freshman Natalie Bohac. "As a freshman, it was a great way to start off my high school volleyball career." The goal for each game is to come out on top. Wit h the big defeat of Southeast at the end of the season, the Rockets had all the momentum in the wor ld just in time for the city tournament. When the season was over, every one of the players cou Id say they left thei r heart on the court. The juni or varsity volleyball girls wen t into each and every game as a team and came out as a team no matter what. They practiced together, they competed together, they won together, they lost together, and they finished together. "We all motivated each other to get all the drills done in practice and to correct our mistakes before it became game time and it actually mattered." says sophomore Devin Edwards. • • The Rocket junior varsity golf team, compiled by one returning member and three new editions, returned this year with stronger numbers as well as ability. Sophomore, Rebecca Oltmer returned this year after playing on junior varsity last year. Two freshmen joined the team, Logan Beck and Cassie Hunt. Another new edition to the team was junior Christine Cullinane. Some golfers began the season with little experience while others had a background of the sport. The girls were very determine d and worked hard with Coach Tom Oschner. Great strides and improvem ents were made from the girls. They enjoyed playing with other schools and playing local courses around the city. One major accomplis hment made by the team was from the individual , Christine Cull inane. At the Lincoln Public Schools Invite, played at Pioneers Park, Christine shot one of her best nine hole scores and placed in the competiti on. The girls were able to learn from the varsity players as well as seek help. Logan Beck stated "I had a great ti me with the team th is year and can't wait to get back out on the course next season ." Endurance, talent, stamina, and heart, are some of many qualities •one needs to be successfu I in the game of tennis. This year the JV boys tennis team had more than enough boys to complete the team, with 14 boys on the squad. Playing fourteen games this season, the boys recorded a winning record, including Elkhorn South, a new school this year with stiff competitors. When asked about the toughest competition this year, Phil Malzer, a junior stated, "Southwest, because almost every kid on the team has been playing since they were six." The JV boys tennis team practiced everyday after school for two months. They enjoyed the game and working with their coach. All of the boys will be r--eturning next year hoping to have another productive, successful season.

Eac~ and everyday, the Jv grls of cross country showed up to practice, and ran to improve. Although there wasn't a large group of girls, they each worked together to finish the races. "I love cross country. Its a way to get into shape and prepares me for track!" Junior Jazmin Hernandez said. "Next year I look forward to beating my time from this year, and hopefully lettering." Each week, the top ·7 times for girls, got to run varsity. There were only 9 girls on the team, so the JV and Varsity often changed every week. "Sometimes i'd run Varsity, and other times JV," junior Emily Reed said, "You just gotta fight for your spot." Each of the girls agree'd that the the Bryan Invite was their favorite meet, and that the Cobat run with snoozy was their favorite practice. By: Lauren Bell

Each boy in JV cross country dedicated every fall • day after school to running. They exchanged their sodas for cups of water, and cheeseburgers for fruits and vegetables. Almost every race they saw improvments, and work ed hard to be successful. They ran in every possible weather condition , and had fun doing it. They learned that walking is never an optio n, and having a positive attitude can change a lot in performance. Sophomore Ryan Buettner said, "I love cross country because we're such a close- • knit team. Also because of the fact that its both an individual and team sport." Each of the boys agreed that their favorite mom ent of this year was Snoozys • 'com bat run.' The JV softball girls certainly had a great season with their 17 wins.There were times when the girls would feel dicouraged when things weren't going the way that they had hoped. When they all stuck together and kept their heads up they were able to make it though anything and ultimately end the amazing season at a great place. • When asked how the softball season went junior McKayla Clark replied, "I think we ended the season strong and the team bonded together more as a family. We had our ups and downs but through it all the season went better than i had expected and i wouldn't change a thing." They all had a great time playing the sport that makes them happy as well as the many spectators watching. You take tha t unintentional shot with no dou bt on missing it and it goes in again as always. Northeast wins again. It wasn't just fun and games they needed to adjust to new coaches some even had to overcome injuries. They fought through it as a team together. Wh at motivated Jaci Edwards was knowing tha t she was n't just playing for herself but for her teammates, coaches and the fans. Wh en we asked the team, wha t was there memorable game so far the ir responds was the game between Southeast. It was dur ing the HAC tournament, it got very intense and a close game, they wen t into overtime and won taking the first place in the tournament. The season begins again with the revenge against all the other high schools in the district. The boys are work ing hard at practices to make the season extravagant. The leads are on and the team supports each other through it all, side by side. Friendships began to form and make the team more focused and competitive. The players all believe in each other taking on good characteristics and materializing sportsmanship. Junior Connor Deines says that his main goal this season is to win the state tournament. When asked what a funny/embarrassing mom ent the team had durin g practice or a game Corey Jones responded with "Basketball isn't funny it's straight business." Wha t is your favorite thing abou t basketball? Brandon Holscher says, "Being able to play and have fun." Connor Deines says, "The out of town games because the bus rides are fun." Th is year was very succesful with all of the winnings we had. We had a few rough patches in the journ ey to our victorius ending of the season, and they all strived for nothing less than the best. Times were hard to push through occasionaly and you had to have a wise mind in the next move you were going to make against your oppo nent. The wrestling boys reported back to state that in a wrestling match you can never give up no matter how bad it hurts. You have to have endurance to survive in the wrestling world . The Jv wrestling boys came out strong in the end of their season by using their strengths and dedication to their sport. They respected the rules and referees. The Jv wrestling team could have never been represented any better.

Wi th tw o ne w additions Kara Guittar and Caitlin Cox joi nin g returning diver Helen Creger gave no t only the dive team more depth bu t it gave the swim team alo t of help wit h points. Wi th a ne w Head diving Coach Kayla Torske a three tim e State Champion diver herself the girls team was sure to have a great road ahead. The girls diving team is a very close nit family. Although there are only three girls on the dive team they still wo rk just as hard. "Stretching before each dive is very im po rta nt" says Junior Helen Creger. A typical day for the divers is stretching before practice, diving and dancing to the music in their spare time. 11 My favorite dive is the fro nt dive, its fun and simple" states Freshman Caitlin Cox. Diving is a very fundamental sport. Any little t;hing you do is judged and counted against yo ur score. Wi th Coach Torske coming in and taking over the divers have learned alot. Boys Diving came out this season making great strides. From the hard work and focus of the three boys they have had many successful meets and improved their dives to a tea. Senior Clayton Paulson says he dives because it is fun and he has seen much impro veme nt in himself compared to last year. Clayton will be competing at state, along with David Green who has also qualified. David's determination and effort have helped him to where he is now in his high school diving career. Freshman diver Trevor Sanford was a new edition to the rocket divers this year. Trevor has seen a lot of self-improvement. All the boys better them selves by pushing each other to be the best they can be. The team is very close and enjoys the time they spend work ing together. Alex Mattox, a JV boys track member said, " I learned many things from the seniors this year that I can soon teach those new talented athletes that come to Lincoln Northeast HighSchool." "My greatest expierence during this track season has been when the coaches always get so proud when you do your greatest at track meets," said the boys track member Drew Musil. "Baseball is a game where a curve is an optical illusion, a screwball can be a pitch or a person, stealing is legal and you can spit anywhere you like except in the umpire's eye or on the ball," said Jim Muray. All different kinds of people enjoy coming to watch the boys play while relaxing in the sunshine. These boys have put in a lot of ti me and effort in ord er to participate this season. Although the beginning of the season started off colder than usual, it eventually warmed up and made playing a lot more enjoyable. Junior Sam Ayars said "W e started a little slow but now we are find ing our stride." All the boys have a lot of perserverance and are ready to take on whatever comes the ir way. If you ask the JV girls wha t tennis means to them, the ir reply simply is, "fun ." The - girls season began in early March starting with a week of intense tryouts. Wh en asked then how the y thin k the season will go, jun ior Linnea Lindquist answered, "I thin k the season will be good. We have a good strong team and we help each oth er out ." There are twelve girls on the JV team. It consists of one freshman, five sophomores, and six juniors. A lot of the girls are returners from last year. The main thin g they are focused on is even more improvement. Mo st of them have come a long way from where they started. According to jun ior Mckayla Clark, she loves playing tennis because, "It gives me something to loo k forw ard to during the.. spring and it's really fun ." The reserve football team consisted of sophomores and a few freshmen. For many of the players it was their first time playing competitively with a common goal of getting far, and taking city. Even so, they all pulled together and played like a team. With players from differ ent grades it was easy to get along and work well together. Starting off the season wasn not so great. Although they were not able to pull out a win until playing Northstar in early November, they never got discouraged. The boys always ran fast, and hit hard, never giving up. Finishing the season with a record of 1 -6, it is a year that the boys wont forget. Not only because of what they accomplished on the field, but also those that were achieved off the field. "One of my best memo ries from this year was the bus ride up to the Kearney game," says sophomore, Joe Remaklus. These boys made football more than just a sport, the made it fun for themselves and accomplished a year of bonding. Even though they ended up with a losing season, that is not what the boys plan on taking away f om the 2010 footbal I season. This year, the reserve volleyball team had a great season. They worked very hard in practices, and their hard work showed in their games. Even though they had some difficult losses in the beginning, their hard work and dedication helped them through the season. Coming in ranked fourth with a 10-9 record for the Lincoln Public Schools tourname nt The girls finished the tournament in second place. Sophomore, Amber Carlson said, "I loved this volleyball season. Even if we didn't have the best record we could have had, I had tons of fun and I love everyone that was on this team." These girls improved on their volleyball skills working together as a team. Carlson said that they also improved on getting to the places they needed to be on the c;:ourt and doing their job. Tennis is an addic tion. Once you have played, you are truly hook ed, and will not let go. This year the Northeast reserve boy's tennis team only consisted of six boys. With charisma, drive, and talent.

"I like to listen to music and get hydrated." says Sophomore Dakota Kilzer abou t how he pumps up for a match. The boys of fall played 12 matches this year, three of whic h we brou ght home the W. "I woul d have to describe my team as funny and athletic," says sophomore Kyle Thorson abou t how he feels abou t the team. He went on to add, "On weekends we all went up and played at Maho ney, it was good bond ing time. " Proving that the boys were not only 'a team, but also a little famil y. The Softball season yvas quite a long season but a well developed one. Other than the nice feeling of the sun nothing compares to the way the reserved softball girls felt on the field. Some say when they are on the field they have this natural feeling. They have a feel for playing. That is one thing that makes them cling to the game of softball. Being close to each other added on to the cling. The girls say that with the help of the coaches and team mates they have improved throughout it all. It is great having team mates cheer you on when you are playing; whether it is good or bad. Some games may not be as satisfying as wanted but support lets you know you have people that have your back. The 2010-2011 reserve softball team did good this season and are overall proud and acomplished what they wanted to succeed in. It c'an be said they had no regrets during the season. It was great. The girls reserve basketball team had a very good season th is year. These eleven girls wen t through the thic k and thin of the season. At the start, the y girls won many of the ir games. They also had some very close, dissapointing losses to schools like Nor th Star and Norfolk. This season, these girls have grown to kno w each oth er better. Sophomore Sarah Dill says, "W e have grown very close this season. We are like a family becuase we are so close." No t only on the cou rt are the y together, but also off the cou rt they are great friends. "Its great to be on a team where everyone gets along and has a great tim e," says Dill . Th is years boys reserve basketball team consisted of 1 3 players. Out of those, five are freshmen, and four of those five are starters. Freshmen Makiah Slade says, "I have a lot of friends on my team, and I have played with some of these guys for a couple years now so we have a really good friendship on and off the court ." It is very importa nt that the boys have a good relationship with eachother so it doesnt affect the way they play. Freshmen Dalton Hegeholz said, "off the court, to bond with my fellow teammates we play c.o.d ." These young men are coached by Nick Weih n. He has done a nice job coaching them. Reserve Boys Basketball

As a student trainer, you learn to help the injured athletes. This years student trainers were Alicia Bucci, -Brittany Cvitak, Ben Esters, Justine Hardy, Morgan Christle, and Ariel Buhr. They taped up sprains, filled ice bags, and helped out the athletes as much as they could. They did everything they were told to do by the main trainers. There is a lot of down time for them to just sit around and talk, so they get to know each other pretty well. It is a fun time for them to get involved in the games, and know they are helping out the team. Sometimes it is diffic ult for them to make sure they are doing the right job, but they always got it done. They were unde r the supervision of two adults and other professionals. This job is not just in school. They gave their ti me to go to al I athletic events to help out the athletes. It has been a good year for them helping out the thletes, and they are all prou d of their hard work.

Th is_seasons boys reserve soccer team ventured towards a few wins. This group of boys are expected to knock the socks off many teams. The entire team was excited for this season, and excited for the wins. The guys are geting used to the new coach and the new techniques. This team is younger than before, and becoming as good as always. The reserve team has worked together knowing that wou Id be the best thing that they could do, knowing that there is no "i" in team. This team is hoping to become an all win, no losses team. This team isn't afraid to get down and dirty. They were ready for a great season together as one, a unity. This season of soccer for the reserve girls started quite descent. They were expecting to learn new ways and did. Some are just starting the high school life of soccer. They were excited about the upcoming season. The girls seemed to have gotten closer. "I'm very excited for what the season beholds for us," says freshman Ayat. Soccer is another one of those sports you have to have a team connection the whole time. There is no "i" in the word "team." Soccer can be simple in ways but also d ifficu It. You have to not be afraid to get hit by the ball, and be familiar with playing with no hands. Most of all you have to not be afraid to get dirty. The Webster dictionary states that a team is a group of two or more people constituting one side in a contest or competition. It is a different story for this seasons reserve baseball team. They spend most of their excess time practicing and working on their plays. It is their job to eat, sleep, and breathe baseball in order to keep up with all of their games. To this seasons boys, their games mean the world to them and they are proving it. The team is determined to finish first and that is the least that they will accept. They are not just a team they are a family made up of great players and you can tell that they take pride in their games. With their pride and hard work the Rockets will ·reach the top. This year, the girls reseve tennis team accomplished many of their goals that they set atthe beginning of the season. Many of the girls on the team this year had never played tennis before. They improved drastically from the beginning of the season. They had a great season this year, and won many of their matches. The start of the season was great for these tennis girls. In their first game, against Lincoln North Star, almost every girl won their singles and doubles matches. Over the course of the season, these girls improved on skills and working together. When asked what she likes best about tennis, player Mattie McIntosh says, "I like to play in the matches because they are lots of fun." • Whether you have .beenplayirig football with the same people for years in elementary or middle school, high school football takes it to a whole different level. It is when different 8th graders from different schools unite to make what is the fresh man football team. For many it was just a first time interest and they just wanted to try it out. For for others it was a sport they've been doing si nee they were young. One of the many goals for this year's freshmen was to unite as a team and try to give it their best. It took more then some talks to try and make th is year's freshmen to become a team. It took many practices and hard work but at the end it paid off. "I really enjoyed football th is year. I've been playing for awhile but on an actual team for my school was a great experience," said Lee Hernandez. '' Also crushing some of the other players from opposing teams and celebrating our wins." This year's freshman volleyball team consisted of 10 girls. They started the ir tryo ut and con ditio nin g in August, with hard workouts, and a lot of running. For some of the team the tryouts wer e easy. Kelsey Schwab said, "The tryouts were kind of easy, and we just did a lot of running, and hitting, and wor king out ." They had many games and obstacles they had to over come as a team. "On e thing tha t was hard for the team was having to play with onl y 8 girls," said Paige Riegsecker. Although every opposing team is going to be diff ere nt and be diff icul t to play, Kelsey Schwab said, "Southeast was our biggest opp one nt." "Overall the freshman volleyball had a good season," said Kelsey Carlson. Tayler Beenblossom added, "Even though our season did n't go as wel l as we wanted to, it was sti II a good season on the team, and we have many things we can look back on and remember." The freshman girls of northeast had a pretty moderate season. It wasn't extraodinary but it was fun and had many lessons. The sound of the buzzer, the swish of the net, even the sqeak of shoes on the court floor. They loved it all, the girls played like they've never stopped. It maybe new to some but most know it oh so well. They definatly got close just because how wou Id they have played well if they all didn't have good chemistry. Good chemistry is something a team that wants to be successf u I knows to have. Might not be perfect at ti mes but it gets them to the point of success at moments. They played hard at heart and it's something you could really see if you were or is a watcher. The number one achievement is knowing that you tried. As long as you feel you tried than you learn a step highier. Getting through the goal of playing ball isn't as hard as it seems when at first hand trying. As freshmen, you are a par t of a new generation to the 2011 high school basketball team. Ma ny of you r parents tell you to give it your best. They usually tell you to never qui t because you have many talents that need to be shown through you r four years of high school. Freshman Wrestling Confidence was key with the freshman wrestlers this year. There were six boys that made up the freshman portion of the wrestling team. Their main goal was to get better as none of them had ever wrestled before. Through all the meets and invitationals the freshman boys learned a lot to help them succeed in wrestling for the future. When asked what his favorite part of wrestling was, Taylor Shaw replied, "My favorite part of wrestling wasgetting better and being apart of sonthing bigger than me." Jeremy Fox's most memorable moment was when Ahmed Mohammed got choked out and then pinned by a girl. One thing that all the freshmen boys wanted was to improve and learn about wres•tling and to win as many matches as possible. This group of guys has come along way. Austin Mill er said, " I loved being on the team, and the guys made this such a great experience." Bowling. A game with such a simple concept, yet such a complicated way of going about it. Th is year the team consists of eleven girls. A lot of the rules have been changed to make practice a better place to be. It is now a rule that you can only wear jeans or slacks. Senior Kay Kulek said, "That was really hard to get used to considering I used to wear sweatpants or shorts every practice." It is the first year that there are practices on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 until 5:30 p.m. There have been a lot of new additions that have been keeping the team on top. The team does their best at practice, and they go into every match with an open mind, never knowing the outcome. It's always a new challenge. By: Kelcy Edstrom

Hit the pocket! Th is is the most used term for the boy's team this season. Whenever they miss their spares, it is push-ups for the whole team. Their goal is to make bowling into a team effort. They have been working on their form so they hit the pins just right. The head coach is the father of junior Jacob Patten. When asked if it bothers him he said, "It's weird, but we leave our family stuff at home, and just bowl at the bowling alley." Starting off practices, they do their warmup drills to get used to the feel of the ball. If anyone is late, they start all over again. They then move into working on their strikes and spares. Once that is all finished, they begin to play games. This year they have to keep their own score to learn how that whole system works. Sometimes it is challenging, but it always gets done. Plaid Vest? Check. Knee High Socks? Check. Flash gloves? Check. It is halftime, and for the Strutters, that means show time. It was a year of firsts. This was the first year that cur. rent freshman had the opportun ity to try out and make the team for their sophomore year. They also changed the tradition and stopped being the flag team for the band. The Strutters consisted of nine seniors, two juniors, and for the first time ever, one sophomore. The girls summer was full of morning practices, dance camp, preparing for fall booster blastoff and football games. During the school year the Strutters usually practice twice a day. Strutter Show is a big show that is put on every year in Novembe r. All of their hard work pays off when it is the night of the show and hundreds of people fill the gym. The Strutter Show also raised hundreds of canned food for the Lincoln Food Bank. Once the show is over, it is on to the basketball season. With as many as four games in a single weekend, it gets busy. It is a nerve-racking, yet satisfying feeling on their way onto the court for a performance. "I love that I'm on a squad with all my best friends. Last year we were all for the most part split up. I absolutely love everyone on the squad because everyone has so much talent, and passion for cheerleading," said Ashton Klimes. This year has been very special not only for Ashton but for the whole team. The entire Northeast cheerleading squad went to cheer camp at Lake Okoboji. This year's varsity team brought home the Herkie Award, which is the most prestigious award you can receive at camp. This award is voted on by cheerleaders and the camp staff for exceptional skill and leadership. Along with that award they were honored with six All-American, a spirit stick every day, and a bid to nationals. They did very well considering they have a really young squad, with only Four seniors, Two juniors, and five sophomores on the team. Besides camp, every time the girls are together they become more like a family. Great memories come from the competitions theyl attend, all the football, volleyball, basketball, and wrestling match- I es, and setting up the school on I the morning of homecoming. "When I come to cheer, its like a• family get together, because after you spend so much time with everyone, they become your family,·" said Danielle Kassebaum. When you put 12 girls together, they aren't always going to agree, but all the unique personalities come together to make a very remarkable team. "Wel l, first off, I always have high expectations for a JV squad because I believe each squad is just as impo rtant ! Because, no matter what squad you are on, everyone has the same goals and objectives to pump up the student body, and the crow d! I believe that Junior Varsity has done a wond erful job doing that this year. As far as JV becomi ng a team I am happy to see that all of the girls get along and overcome the diversity very well! I'm very proud of this year's JV squad" said Holly Willits, cheer coach. This year the JV cheer consisted of, three juniors, four sophomores, and three freshmen, making a team of ten exquisite - - - - ~ • - - • - • - members. The team went to Lake Okob oji for a four day camp. The JV squad broug ht back, three spirit sticks, one All American, and a bid to nationals. This team did a superb job work ing together, and keeping their heads held high even with the rainy weather two of the four .days. Along with that, JV sprung forward with great cheering at the school's sports events. JV also competed in city cheer come pition takin g second place out of five teams. Pride and spirit! These were the first words in this year's freshmen competition routine, and it describes the team very well. Regardless of the fact that it was their first time being a cheerleader at Northeast, they all displayed a high level of spirit and enthusiasm in front of the entire student body. With all the passion the girls had, it did not take long for their performances to leave us breathless. With the eight girls, coming from three different schools, it was a great experience for the freshmen. Its been a long ride since the beginning for these girls. They starte out not really knowing a lot about each other. Through the games, performances, practices, camp, and team bonding times, they slowly but surely started to grow more like a family. Brianna Betz said" I love coming to cheer because every day is a n~w day, and I love my team and what we have accomplished so far. Stage fright is always with them before performances but then as they walk on to the stage everything is gone. They did their best to make it the best show for the .audience. The 2010-2011 marching band had impoved greatly from those 9 o 4 band camp practices o getting a two at NSBA. he band and color guard preformed great. Th is year as challenging as there here many new people in band and a brand new color guard, consisting of 20 girls. The color uard had to learn how to march, dance, and expertly toss and twirl a flag beore their first comp etion . Most people in the band ould say they enjoy what 1 ll' hey do. Even though the band was small, the sound as big when everyone played. There are a variety of people in the band rom cheer leaders to tr utters to athletes. his shows that anyone can be in band. A jazz band (jazz ensemble or jazz combo) is a musical ensemble that plays jazz music usually with out a conductor. Jazz bands usually consist of a rhythm section and a horn section. The Northeast Jazz Band consisted of 18 students this year. Four trum pets, two tenors, one baritone, one bass drum , four trombones, two drum sets, one guitar, one keyboard, and two altos. This year the Jazz Band was led by Mr. Snyder. They have had many teachers throu ghou t the years but it doesn 't stop them from sounding sultry and professional.

Both Krista Parot and Karryn Kauk agree that music is a wond erfu I way to express one-self. "She is down to earth, and a lot of fun to be arou nd," said a stude nt when asked abou t Mrs. Thor pe the class teacher, and conductor. "She gets the job done ." they all agreed. Many of the musicians in the wind ensemble have been playing for more then 5 year and still enjoy it! For Junior Edie Widosen and soph omor e Madison Parks the winte r conc ert was the best, "because of the fun Christmas music." "It's not that I nessisarily enjoy playing, but I enjoy the peop le in the class" Soph omor e Brittany Parker said. This year the symphonic band had a great year playing their specific instruments and getting to know others. This class was offered to all students who play brass, woodwind, or percussion instruments, and opened to any grade. The students performed in many concerts and contests throughout the school year. When asked, all of the students said they enjoy playing. Many of the students also play more than one instrument. In th is class they learned more about the instrument they play, about different instruments, and how they are similar and different to others. Th is years orchestra was more of a family than a group of strangers playing tog~ther. Everyone was so close knit that they thoug ht of the members of the groups as their family and best friends compared to just somebody that sits next to them and plays the same instrument. They all work together as a family to make their music the best it can be. Aida Goito m has been playing the cello and violin for almost six years and she agrees that they are all very close and commented, "I like the family atmosphere. Many musical groups such as bands and choirs are too large to be a family. Our smaller close kn it orchestra relies on friendship." Whe n asked abou t what everyone thinks of their Conducto r, Mr. Snyder, all the students were quick to answer how much they loved him as a teacher. Junior Nikki Mille r says, "He is amazing. He knows how to have you work hard and accomplish a lot but still have tons of fun. And, he also tells jokes all the time to break the serious mood ." Wha t is music? Music is art. Music is rythm. Music is spiritual. Music is inspiring. Musi c is simply everything. Voices N Harm ony put in more than just effor t th is past year. They have put forth more sweat and tears than half the football team. The comp etitiv e tension was as high as the notes they hit. But eventually they came together to form a synchronized group. Junior Kelsey Marshall states, "This group of people are great. I love work ing and perfo rming with them ." The whol e Voices N Harm ony crew got along and supported each other in every aspect. Twenty-one girls in tuxedos with a lot of attitude and en~rgy describes Dynamix. Dynamix is a first year all girls show choir at Northeast, and they started off with an outrageous dance camp durin g the summer. Dynamix traveled to Southwest to start off their competition season. Although they did not place, they learned a lot of new skills. They were determined to better themselves for the upcoming UNO , Norris and Grand Island competitions . Conc ert Choi r is one of the biggest singing groups at Northeast. Students were asked what they love abou t Conc ert Choir. Senior Ben Esters responded with, "I love all the peop le in it and how we learn all differ ent types of musi c." Senior Olivi a Geist said, "Singing songs that represent a challenge and dema nd hard vocals and lots of vibra to." Wha t was a funny or embarrassing mom ent that you had while performing? I didn 't even realize until the conc ert was over, but my dress was half way off of me." Wha t inspires you to want to sing? Senior Tayla Bouman said, "Just music in general inspires me. Singing is a way of producing musical sounds with the voice. People have done it throu ghou t history for entertainment. This includes Northeast's own mens and wom en's choir. This is a new class th is year that consists of mostly freshman. It is a mixture of Rocket Singers and LNE singers. They are a non-competitive group that sings for the pure enjoy ment of it. My newfound friend Mark Briggs said, "I love spending my class time singing and being with my friends." Th is group always had a positive attitude and always strived to be the best they could be. Their master behind their sucess is their direc tor Mrs. Ohde . Ben Svehla says, "Mrs. Ohde is a very talented and beautiful young woman. I feel honored for her to teach me." Men and Women

The Chamber Singers of Northeast High School are an audition group chosen from the Northeast Concert Choir. They worked before and after school to devote their time to this group. They are under the direction of Krista Ohde. Chamber Singers perform a special kind of music that is very traditional and based on singing from the 14th century. In the fall they perpared to host and have a madrigal feast. They opened their performance and dinner to the school and public. Audiences came to sit, have a traditional dinner and enjoy the theatrics an music of the Chamber Singers. They dressed in full costume and decorted the scence to set a true atmoshpere of the madrigal time. They have really enjoyed their year and working together with Ms. Ohd. Mitch Snyder said, "I love singing the chamber music with all of these members. They are great to sing and perform with." By: Kelsey Marshall

Plaid was the "in" style of the fall play, The Family Legend: A Tragedy. This Scottish tragedy writte n in 1805 was modernized for a high school performance. How ever, the original language of the play was left untouched. Cast members wore either blue or red plaid _on their costumes to ident ify whic h family they represented. Whe ther it was the drama from a kidnapping, or the suspense from a fight scene, the audience was captivated by the cast's ability to take on their characters' roles. As always, Mr. Chapman reminded the cast to be focused and remain in the world of the play. The beginning act opens with the birth of a child, who was a descendant of both warri ng clans. The Macleans, who are one of these clans, are preparing for the celebration of the child's birth. The second act contains a plot to kill the child's mother, Helen. Later in the third act the plot is carried out, and the mother is left on an outcr oppin g of rocks to drow n. Fortunately Helen is rescued in the fourt h act, and later revealed in the fifth act. As a result, havoc and fighting begins, until Lord Maclean ends it with a soliloquy. Auditions began early in the school year, and casted members were expected to attend play practice afterschool everyday. This devo tion led to the success of the fall play. By: Carter G. Hulinsky

The play was very good. The entire cast and crew did a fantastic job. The name of the play was "W ho Said Qui t?" whi ch too k place in Win ton bur y, Massachusetts. The play was abo ut an up and coming doc tor starting a clin ic in his house. An old love and her mo the r show up one day and announce the engagement of the girl and the nep hew of the head of a hospital in tow n. After being lied to through out the play, the trut h is revealed and the doc tor and his beloved are together again. The costumes were very appropriate for the tim e frame. The story Ii ne was easy to foll ow and kept the audience interested. The actors seemed to have fun. The first school day commenced on September 9, 1941 with a trum pet blaring "Call To Colors," followed by the recitation of the Pledge of Allegience. This wou ld be don e for the next several decades, as Lincoln Northeast High School grew in size and tradition. Students were uneasy abo ut the com bina tion of three high schools, Jackson High School (University Place), Havelock High School, and Bethany High School, whi ch were previous rivals. Black and whi te became the schools colors because the students could not compromise, and so the bookeeper kept ordering the colors because of their neutrality. The studen t bod y chose the Rocket mascot, because it was a modern technology tha t wou ld not become outdated. Wh en the school opened, Lincoln Northeast had kindergarten through 12t h grade. The office was on the second floor, and the bandroom had a swimming pool in it. Band and choir practiced on the fourth floor, and marching band members wou ld carry the ir instruments up and dow n the several flights of stairs, because there were no elevators. Nearly every decade after, the school had an add ition built. . .

Instead of going to McDonalds after football games, King's Drive-In in Bethany was the Rocket's hangout. Dances wou ld be held in the gym after basketball games.

"Int egr ity first, service before self, and excellence in all tha t we do, " are the values of the Lincoln Air Force Junior Reserved Off icer Training Corp. Cadets, the title of students par ticip atin g in the program are educated in citizenship, and responsibility. The program also promotes com mu nity service, and educates cadets in air and space fundamentals. The program is not onl y open to students at Lincoln Northeast High School, but to high school students thro ugh out the city. Classes occ ur dur ing the school day, and before school. A s ecial teams class is

ested in dril l team com pet ition s against oth er JROTC units. Cadets are easily recognized by the Air Force uniforms they wea r on Wednesdays, dur ing colo r guards at football games, and oth er school events. This school year a colo r guard per form ed at the State Christmas tree ligh ting in the State Capitol. SCadets also raised funds for Wreaths Across Am erica Day, and placed wreaths on veteran's graves in hon or of the ir service to our country. They also help ed with Veg Fest

Robert Haggans is probably one of the most well known and student loved janitors at school. Wh at mo '. students do not kno w about Robert is tha t he is an extremely good cook. His specialty being BBQ food and anything on the grill. Since 198 4 Robert has been grilling his infamous BBQ ribs for his church at least qnce a month. Starting out as just a fundraiser for his church , BBQ-ing eventually turned into something that he wan t · to take to the next level. In 200 4 he opened his own restaurant called Haggens Hol y Smoke Barbeque. Unfortunately Haggens had to close after a year of business due to money problemsw. Still Robert cooks for his church monthly, loving what he does. Last year the welding and shop classes at LNE made a project out of ma~ ing ,R9bert his own grill. It was made from an old gas tank and turned out to be a seven-foot long smoker. Rob • ert ~ w.:?'1 loved watching them put it together. They did n't act like they minded doi ng it. Th is year's yearbook class has 2 5 students. Students are assigned pages and it's the ir responsiblity to go ou t and take pictures, wr ite a story, and have it be do ne by the deadline. It can be crazy and stressful because you have to set aside tim e after school to get pictures at games, practices, concerts, plays, etc.. As the tradition has been, a group of girls from the Junior class planned and arranged the dance. The theme this year was Moulan Rouge, and the girls planned center pieces, and other decorations throughout the summer and school year to make the dance look its best. "The building was pretty cool, and i liked the fact that it had an open bar." Senior Carter Helinsky said."The line dances were hard to do though, they were so sped up!" ''The atmosphere made it really easy to have a lot offun!" Senior Rob Sherril states. The girls this year hope that the girls next year well have fun planning the dance, and have a drama free time! I would like to thanks all of those students who have helped make The Rocket a successful yearbook for the past three years. When Mr. Glather talked with me 3 years ago, I promised him we'd always get the yearbook completed so it would be delivered before the school year was completed. We have met that goal. I remember taking over this class with only 3 students, a $18,000.00 debt and a lot of passion for kids. We now are in the black and have had up to 72 students sign up for this class this past year. I feel that I am leaving this class in the same position Mr. Blue did seven years ago. I love Blue 's passion and hope that I was able to bring some of it to this class. This has been YOUR yearbook, YOUR production and hopefully twenty years from now you'l l look at it and it will put a smile on your face.
