Ear ly in the year, Irving gave out baby trees to some deserving students. This was a great thing! Planting trees helps the environment by giving oxygen e air. They help us breathe!

This year, Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh defended their title by winning the beach volleyball gold medal.

Michael Phelps swam to history by winnng more gold medals then anyone else in Olympic histor .

The Chinese gymnastics team also sparked controversy due to some saying they were not old enough to compete in the Olympics.

These were the Olympic mascots for the Beijing Olympics. They were used periodically in the games.

As for women's gymnastics, USA got first and second with Nastia Liukin in first and Shawn Johnson in second. China's Yang Yilin placed third.

LeBron James dunks the basketball to score in the gam e against China. The USA men's basketball team w ent on to win the tournament.
