The 6th graders of Dawes are enjoying their first year. They like all the new faces and things of the school. "I like the X and Y days because I get to switch around a bunch and it's not boring," said Suha AI-Dabbi. Jamil Daniel said, "It [Dawes] takes some getting used to, but it's nice to have more space to put your stuff." Zadok Hoffman liked "the bigger lunches." Hopefully all the future members of the "Class of 2022" will find their own place among the many scholars already accomodated by Dawes.

When most people think "school staff ," they imagine teachers. But it 's not just teachers that make Dawes tick. A lot of other people are "'~ 7
doing work behind the scenes that hardly ever gets noticed , but is still \) av~ important. For example, custodians clean up spills in the cafeteria , so that if you happen to glance down at the floor , you're not staring at s week-old meatballs. That would most likely put a serious dent in one 's
appetite. And that's just one of many cases. Not to say the teachers 1J and administration don't deserve any credit , but you get the point. It's more of a balance. But whether or not those others get any credit , they'll keep working hard to support our fine school.

Our Dawes Cross Country Team
This is the Dawes Cross Country team they are running for Dawes Middle School 2013. They spent many afternoons running and tra ining hard fo the meets against other middle schools. Our runners showed the i r pr ide and performed their bes at each Cross Country Meet. Wa to go runners!

This year's volleyball team worked hard during practice and even harder during the games. These girls formed a strong team, working together to play strong . Sutton Molacek says the thing that she liked mostly about this year was the experience, although Sutton has been playing volleyball for three years now. In Sutton's opinion the hardest thing about volleyball was " definitely the serving". Sutton s ays "she connects very well with the team". I mean who wouldn 't , it 's Dawes.

The girls started off with a slow start but they managed to get it together and work together as a team. Once they started to work they started to win games. the diamondbacks learned a lot from the season this year. The girls worked super hard during the season.

Health , Social Studies , Woodshop , Science , Reading , Publ ications , Math and English are all important. In Health we learned about the body and about the "My Plate ." Social Studies is important to learn about history and biography . Woodshop is also important to learn how to make stuff l ike small little cars and candy machines. Science is important because you learn how a body works , the environment , the workings of the universe , and much more . Reading is important to learn how to read and improve your goals and skills. Publications is important to make the year book so we can see what had happened th is year . Math is important for adding and subtracting . English is to learn your vocabulary and improve on it , not to mention reading and writ i ng - can we say NeSA anyone?

Forever In Our Music
This year , students i n 6th , 7th, and 8th grade band and orchestra worked hard to bring the notes on a sheet of music to our ears. Countless hours were spent practicing. Mr. Marolf gu ided the students , bringing the instruments together in harmony. Anyone walking down the hall by the auditorium would be treated to snippets of pieces orig inally created by the likes of Beethoven and Bach. Because of the hard work of Mr. Marolf and his students , chords once out of sync are now playing in perfect harmony.

Chorus
The Dawes chorus had great voices this year. Mrs. Bogatz led a great group of •students to learns the many skills necessary for singing as an ensemble, or a chorus. From counting notes, learning the scales , sharps and flats, and voice techniques, these students came together and sang in harmony. They showed excellence in their concerts this year. It was very impressive on how well they can sing in front of many people It is a great class to take , to grow in your vocal ability.

Empowerment is a place to get away with your culture and heritage. It is an inspiring place to be and is a very big honor to be in empowerment. There are so many opportunities for those involved! Empowerment members meet up every other Friday during 6th & 7th period. Empowerment is a secure place and lets people express their feelings and express who they are .
Muneer says, "Empowerment is achieving goals and succeeding in life." Heba tells us that its "setting goals for the future." Americle says "It helps you get a brighter future and help get to know how college is going to be."

Student Council, a group of your peers , students at Dawes , for Dawes, met weekly to identify and raise money for causes the council thought important and necessary. They organized and hosted a spaghetti dinner to raise money for the Children's Hospital in Omaha They were also responsible to planning the fantastic glow dance! Well done Dawes Student Council!
