Hailed for presenting engaging, thought f ully curated programs, American conductor Bret t Mitchell is in consistent demand on the podium at home and abroad. He is currently music director of the Pasadena Symphony and ha s also ser ved a s ar tistic director & conductor of Oregon’s Sunriver Music Festival since 2022. Previously, he held music director posts with the Colorado Symphony, Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra, and Moores Opera Center.

As a guest conduc tor, Mitchell ’ s recent engagement s have included appearances with the New York Philharmonic, San Francisco Sy mphony, Los A ngeles Philharmonic, Minnesota Orchest ra , Vancouver Sy mphony Orchest ra , and a t wo-week tour with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. He also regularly collaborates with leading soloists, including Yo-Yo Ma, Renée Fleming, Itzhak Perlman, Conrad Tao, and Alisa Weilerstein.

From 2013 t o 2017, Mit chell ser ve d on the conduc t ing s t af f of T he Clevela nd Orche s t ra . He joined the Orchest ra a s a ssistant conduc tor in 2013 and wa s promoted to a ssociate conduc tor in 2015. During this t ime, he wa s also music direc tor of The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, a tenure that included a four-cit y tour of China in June 2015.

In addit ion to his work with professional orchest ra s, Mitchell is well k nown for his af finit y for working with and mentoring young musicians. He is regularly invited to work at high-level t raining programs such a s the Cleveland Inst it ute of Music, Nat ional Reper tor y Orchest ra , Sara sota Music Fest ival, and Interlochen Center for the A r t s. He has also ser ved on the faculties of Nor thern Illinois Universit y, the Universit y of Houston, and the Universit y of Denver.

Born in Seat tle, Mitchell holds degrees in conducting from the Universit y of Texas at Aus t in and composit ion f rom Wes ter n Wa shing ton Universit y He a lso s t udied w ith Leonard Slatkin at the National Conducting Institute and was selected by Kur t Masur as a recipient of the inaugural American Friends of the Mendelssohn Foundation Scholarship in 2008. Mitchell wa s also one of five recipients of the League of American Orchestra s ’ American Conducting Fellowship from 2007 to 2010.

In a ca re er spa nning more tha n si x de ca de s , John W illiam s ha s b e come one of A mer ica’s most accomplished and successf ul composers for f ilm and the concer t stage, and remains one of our nat ion’s most dist inguished and cont ribut ive musica l voice s .

He ha s composed the music and ser ved a s music direc tor for more than 100 f ilms, including all nine Star Wars f ilms, the f irst three Harr y Pot ter f ilms, Superman, Far and Away, and Home Alone, among many others. His 50 -year ar t ist ic par t nership with direc tor Steven Spielberg ha s resulted in many of Holly wood ’ s most acclaimed a nd succe s s f ul f ilms , including Schindler’s Lis t, E T the E x t r a-Ter re s t r ia l, Jaws, Jur a ssic Park, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, the Indiana Jones f ilms, Saving Private Ryan, The Adventures of Tintin, Lincoln, and The Fabelmans. His cont ribut ions to telev ision include scores for more than 200 telev ision f ilms alongside themes for NBC ’ s Meet the Press, PBS ’ s Great Per for ma nce s, a nd the 198 4, 1988 , a nd 1996 Summer Oly mpic G a me s a s well a s the 2002 Winter Oly mpic Games.

Williams has received five Academy Awards and 53 Oscar nominations, making him the Academy ’ s most-nominated liv ing person and the second-most nominated person in its histor y. He ha s received seven British Academy Awards, 25 Grammys, four Golden Globes, f ive Emmys, the Nat ional Medal of the A r t s, and a Kennedy Center Honors. In 2016, Williams received the 4 4th Life Achievement Award f rom the A merican Film Institute, the first time in its histor y that this honor was bestowed upon a composer. In 2022, he wa s awarded an honorar y k nighthood of the Brit ish Empire a s one of the f inal awards approved by Her Majest y Queen Elizabe th II.

Williams is laureate conduc tor of the Boston Pops and ar t ist-in-residence at Tanglewood. He has composed numerous works for the concert stage, including concertos commissioned by The Cleveland Orchest ra , Boston Sy mphony Orchest ra , New York Philharmonic, and Chicago Symphony Orchest ra . In 2009, he composed and arranged Air and Simple Gif ts for the first inaugural ceremony of President Barack Obama. In 2021, Williams premiered his Second Violin Concer to with the Boston Sy mphony Orchest ra at Tanglewood alongside Anne -Sophie Mut ter, for whom he composed the work .
