BUSINESS BEYOND BORDERS

Business Beyond Borders: Letter from the Director
Dear readers,
It is with great pride and gratitude that I present the inaugural Annual Report of the Center for International Business. This document is both a record of our accomplishments and a reflection of our commitment to preparing future global leaders who will thrive in an interconnected world I want to particularly thank Mrs Pam and Mr Bill Ryan, for their generosity in establishing the Jack and Vada Reynolds Endowed Chair of International Business. Your continuous support and your generous contributions have allow us, at the Center for International Business, advanced your vision and the vision of Loyola University New Orleans
Among this year’s milestones was the launch of the first cohort of CIB Fellows exceptional students whose projects embody Loyola’s mission to pursue excellence with a global perspective and mindset. We also introduced the Gumbo of Opportunities podcast, created specifically for students as a tool to understand and critically assess current events and challenges in international business
Our faculty advanced global scholarship through new publications, while our outreach extended beyond campus at conferences and through events here at Loyola A highlight was the workshop Creative Sparks 2 0 in April 2025, which brought together international scholars discussing economic growth, innovation, and entrepreneurship. We now look forward to Creative Sparks 3.0 in April 2026, continuing this tradition of creativity and collaboration.
Equally central to our work is the promotion of study abroad programs. Our programs in Italy and Costa Rica provide students with invaluable immersion in different cultures and markets, cultivating adaptability and global awareness
We also recognize that our progress depends on a broad community of stakeholders students, faculty, alumni, donors, and friends. This Annual Report reflects our accountability to them and our determination to share openly the impact of our efforts.
As we look ahead, we are always guided by the Jesuit values of the pursuit of excellence with an international and global perspective These principles inspire us to think broadly, act boldly, and educate with purpose. In doing so, we reaffirm our mission: to advance international business education that empowers our students to lead with purpose, compassion, and vision on the global stage
Together, we will continue building bridges, opening doors, and shaping a future without borders.
Sincerely,
Prof. Gustavo Barboza

J-Term in Costa Rica
In January 2025, the Center for International Business led a 10-day study abroad program in Costa Rica, combining cultural exploration with professional immersion. Students traveled through San José, Cartago, Alajuela, and Puntarenas, experiencing the country’s natural and cultural landmarks while engaging with its dynamic business environment. This is the second time we run this program in Costa Rica, and we already looking forward to the next cohort. The cohort visited CINDE, creating market opportunities for multinational companies, and the La Lima Metropolitana Free Trade Zone, gaining insights into foreign direct investment, global supply chains, and Costa Rica’s relationshipcentered business culture. These experiences deepened students’ understanding of how strategy, operations, and culture intersect in international markets. The program also included visits to the University of Costa Rica and the Lankester Botanical Garden, culminating with a closing gala at Maderos Restaurant. This immersive experience prepared students to navigate the complexities of global business and cross-cultural collaboration.

Summer Session in Rome
From May 19 to June 20, Loyola’s Summer Study Abroad Program in Rome, in partnership with the American University of Rome, co-led by Dr. Alessandro Braga and Prof. Rob Rambo, immersed students in European business, culture, and governance. Anchored by the course Business Environment & Practices in Europe, students examined strategy, policy, and cross-cultural practices within the context of the European Union and global markets. This is the fourth consecutive year for this program.
Highlights included a guided visit to the Italian Senate, where students engaged with Senator Elena Murelli, and participation in Italy’s Republic Day celebrations. Beyond academics, students experienced Roman life and explored Tuscany, the Amalfi Coast, and major cultural landmarks such as the Vatican and the Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola.
Coinciding with Rome’s Jubilee Year, the program blended academic rigor, cultural immersion, and spiritual reflection, offering students a transformative global learning experience rooted in Jesuit values.
