June Mission Partner Highlight: Community Interfaith
Community Interfaith, one of LPPC’s Mission Partners, provides food and clothing assistance to the Norristown community. This invaluable nonprofit organization is led by Rev. Dwayne Mosier of Ascension United Church of Christ in Norristown.
In addition to LPPC, Community Interfaith partners with several local churches, including Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, Christ Church United Church of Christ, Norriton Presbyterian Church, and Power in the Cross Fellowship. Along with LPPC’s much-needed financial support, several LPPC members serve on the board and volunteer their time.
After many years of dedicated service, Kathy Van Horn retired from her role as pantry manager. We are deeply grateful for her many contributions and for helping on board the new manager, Nicol Evik.
The food pantry, located in the rear of Power in the Cross Church at 506 Haws Avenue in Norristown (formerly Grace Lutheran Church), is open on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings. It operates as a choice pantry, meaning that people seeking food assistance can select the products they receive rather than being given a pre-packed bag of groceries. This approach helps reduce food waste and better accommodates special dietary needs. The pantry also offers fresh foods such as milk, eggs, and meat.
Antonia Fuentes manages the Interfaith Clothing Room at Haws Avenue United Methodist Church, located at 800 W. Marshall Street in Norristown. The Clothing Room is currently open weekly on Thursdays and provides clothing, shoes, home goods, and toys to anyone in need.
As a mission partner, LPPC provides both financial and hands-on support throughout the year, including seasonal service opportunities. LPPC contributes to and interacts with Community Interfaith in many ways, including:
Clothing drives
Food collections through the Boy Scouts’ Scouting for Food, the Souper Bowl of Caring, and Christmas in July programs
Transporting donations from Wawa and the Montgomery County Health and Human Services Donation Hub to the food pantry
The Church Has Left the Building service projects
