It has been a truly inspiring start to the academic year for our boarding community. Our boarders continue to thrive within a vibrant programme that blends academic ambition and cultural enrichment with the warmth of a closeknit home-from-home. Immersion Weeks, together with our flexible and weekly boarding options, ensure every boy can access the rhythm of boarding life. While our Headmaster’s Afternoon Tea and boarders' mentoring sessions with the Senior Leadership Team help nurture confidence, provide bespoke academic support and foster a strong sense of belonging. A particular highlight was our weekend visit to Cambridge. From punting along the River Cam - gliding past the iconic Backs, the Bridge of Sighs and the Mathematical Bridge - to exploring the lively market square and medieval streets, the boys enjoyed an unforgettable taste of university life. The pinnacle of the trip was VIP access to my alma mater, King’s College, where they experienced the world-renowned choir within the chapel’s magnificent fan-vaulted splendour. Meeting LGS alumni now studying at Cambridge, offered powerful inspiration, especially as we celebrate strong boarding representation among our 35 Oxbridge applicants this year. Boarders continue to shine across school life - from debating and public speaking to the UKMT Maths Challenge, Scholars’ Showcase, sport and the CCF. Our award-winning cultural programme remains as busy as ever, with recent visits to York and the Great Central Railway, and exciting trips ahead to Birmingham, Oxford, Alton Towers and more.

‘Tis the season of celebration and success for LGS boarders It has been a memorable few weeks within the Loughborough Grammar School boarding community, marked by festive traditions and shared celebrations. The boarding community is also applauding the remarkable academic accomplishments of three of its senior pupils, who have each secured highly competitive Oxbridge interviews. But it’s not all work and no play… The boys enjoyed our annual Boarders’ Christmas Dinner and the Sixth Form boarders also enjoyed a drinks reception in the award-winning Sixth Form Centre before one of the most anticipated evenings in the school calendar, the Snow Ball. The boys then joined Sixth Form pupils from across the Foundation, including day pupils from Loughborough Grammar School and Loughborough High School, with the event providing the perfect opportunity to come together, reflect on the term and mark the start of the festive period in style.
In a recent news story, Loughborough has been named the 2nd happiest place to live in the East Midlands in 2025! From it’s vibrant sense of community to its excellent sports culture and lively town centre, there’s lots to enjoy and, even better, LGS is just a 10 minute walk away from the town centre. Loughborough Grammar School is proud to be a part of this community, taking part in a wide range of outreach initiatives throughout the year. This term has included: Loughborough Remembrance Parade - our Combined Cadet Force
marched in Loughborough's Remembrance Parade in memory of the sacrifice of those who served in the forces, representing our schools with pride on such an important day of reflection. Loughborough Fair - our senior school musicians took to the stage at the opening of Loughborough Fair which is a highly-anticipated annual event in the Loughborough community calendar. Fundraising - LGS has raised over £1,300 for Children In Need and over £500 for Movember! We've also launched a Christmas Hamper appeal, which saw approximately 50 hampers of food, toiletries and gifts delivered to the local and wider community over December.
Lights, camera, action! Our Year 12 students had the incredible opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of filming for BBC's Question Time last week. The iconic programme features topical debate in which guests from the worlds of politics and the media answer questions posed by members of the public. Our pupils were able to try out the cameras, use audio equipment and speak to members of the crew about career pathways for media and film production roles. One of our politics students even got selected to ask a question in the programme! Students with an interest in politics, film, sound and drama had their own unique takeaways from the afternoon as well as plenty of advice about their chosen careers.

An immersive introduction to life at LGS Our Immersion Programme provides international students with the opportunity to spend a week experiencing life at our outstanding School. They will get a taste of different subjects in the classroom, benefit from the fantastic facilities across our campus, and enjoy exciting trips and activities showcasing the best of English history, culture and tradition, having plenty of fun along the way. For this week, they are very much part of the Loughborough Grammar School family – learning from our brilliant teachers and mixing with both international and UK students. They will return to you having made memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.
Mercia Football Summer Camp This summer, we are proud to host Mercia Football Camp, one of the UK’s leading residential football programmes for young players aged 10–17. Set in the heart of England, our historic campus provides the perfect backdrop for an immersive football and cultural experience combining elite coaching and excellent teaching in a supportive environment for international and UK students alike. Mercia Football camps are designed to develop confident, creative and independent young people. With expert coaching, exceptional facilities, and a full residential experience, players leave with improved skills, lifelong friendships, and memories that last well beyond the final whistle.

On the horizon... For pupils in Year 11 and 13, January brings with it two weeks of mock exams. Equipped with lots of practical resources and revision tips, we wish our pupils taking exams the best of luck. House competitions, drama rehearsals, musical showcases and lots of exciting sports fixtures. Pupils from Year 7 to Year 9 were challenged to incorporate elements of the school buildings into their christmas card designs, and we were delighted with the creativity and effort shown across all submissions!
