Loughborough Schools Foundation’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF) proudly hosted the 68 Annual Review on Saturday 2 May. From the formal events on the Quad to a variety of training activities on the field, the event was a wonderful celebration of community, tradition and our cadets’ professionalism. th

We are delighted to share that international boarding pupil, Brandon, was awarded the Carter Cup for Best Junior NCO. This achievement reflects the enthusiasm with which Brandon has embraced the leadership opportunities provided by the CCF, becoming a positive role model for his peers.
Between the formal parade and the final presentations, attendees had the fantastic opportunity to visit the cadets undertaking training activities on the field, including command tasks, camouflage, flight simulations, and laser pistol shooting. The chance to witness our cadets in action highlights the broad range of skills developed as part of the CCF.

Coding champions
Against strong competition from across the country, we’re extremely proud to announce that two Year 10 pupils have won the Perse Coding Team Challenge! Out of around 3,000 competing teams in round one, down to around 730 in round two, the boys worked together to claim the top title in the Selective Schools and Clubs category with a winning score of 120 points.
The Perse Coding Challenge is held online and requires participants to apply computational thinking to a series of increasingly complex Python coding problems. It focuses heavily on algorithmic thinking, problem-solving and programming logic, becoming more demanding in the second round of the competition.
A visit from Geoff Thomspon MBE
We were delighted to welcome Geoff Thompson MBE to Loughborough Grammar School in April. The Founder and Chair of Youth Charter - a charity that believes access for young people to sport, arts and cultural activity is a fundamental human right - visited the School as part of his Community Campus project, which aims to align policy, delivery and impact within the Sport for Development and Peace movement.
During his visit, Geoff met with a group of our pupils, all of whom have strong sporting involvement within the school community and beyond.
After the pupils shared their own future aspirations, Geoff gave an insightful talk about the aims of his work including the experiences and motivations that sit behind it.
He reminded our pupils of the value that making a positive impact on those around you can have both in the community and on a wider scale.
Altitude chambers, VO₂ max tests, and elite training facilities… not your average school day
An immersive trip to Loughborough University for A Level PE students at Loughborough Grammar School and Loughborough High School provided a wonderful insight into what studying Sports Science at university could look like. From a strength and conditioning session to VO2 max tests and talks from leading practitioners, the day was full of inspiring experiences.
Enriching their A Level experience, the trip offered students both a chance to extend their learning beyond the classroom environment and discover more about life at university. It gave them insight into courses that combine sports with science, encouraging them to think further about where their A Level studies might take them.

This Earth Day, Assistant Head of Operations & Pupil Experience, Al Waters explored the link between adventure and environmental stewardship.
Whether pupils are embarking on a six-day sea kayaking expedition along Scotland's west coast, camping overnight as part of their Combined Cadet Force (CCF) experience or exploring volcanic systems in Iceland, the goal is the same - to take their learning beyond the classroom. It is in these moments of connection with the nature that pupils develop a desire to care about the world around them.
“Through adventure and exploration, we are ensuring our pupils gain an education that extends beyond the classroom. From nature, they learn the value of the environment that surrounds them and that this isn’t something that should be taken for granted, but which should be cared for and protected. They also learn lots about themselves and working as a team. ”

Manager, Mrs Lauren Spencer, has enjoyed meeting many of our Agent Partners on her travels throughout 2026. The recruitment cycle is not quite over, as Loughborough Grammar School heads to Portugal to meet European, Latin American and Caribbean partners at the ILF & Workshop Global 2026, before heading to Hong Kong and Mainland China for meetings with Agent Partners and prospective parents and pupils.

Commission uplifts
As a School and Foundation, we are increasingly aware of the impact of the current economic climate on the affordability of UK boarding options. As such, we have taken the decision to freeze our existing boarding fee for September 2026, to enable us to support our pupils and their families and increase the viability of the LGS offering.

In the full knowledge that this stance will not support increasing operational costs amongst the sector, we will be offering formally contracted Agent Partners an enhanced commission rate for successful new enrolments to our Schools as follows:

On the horizon...
Boys are preparing for their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award with a training day at our Quorn Playing Fields. Designed to prepare them for the expedition requirement of the Award, the day involves a wide range of practical activities and experiences.
Sports Day is just around the corner and pupils are preparing for their events in Sports lessons and athletics sessions.
The term is set to close in style with annual music festival-style event Al Fresco, where all ensembles and choirs across the Foundation perform.
