The town of Hillsboro kicked off Loudoun’s Independence Day celebrations on Sunday with an evening of live music, family activities, and fireworks. The program included a reading of the Declaration of Independence with county supervisors, Del. Geary Higgins and Clerk of the Circuit Court Gary Clemens joining community members in reciting the lines that were read to townspeople 249 years ago.

As the House of Representatives debates over President Donald J. Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” Loudoun’s leaders are

working to identify, and mitigate, its impacts on the county. A leading concern has been the changes to Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. The bill could result in a $698 billion decrease to Medicaid and a $267 billion

decrease in SNAP benefits, according to a June 10 staff report to the Board of Supervisors’ finance committee. In Loudoun, 50,478 community members are enrolled in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. The county is also home to 14,228
