Volume 15- 22 November, 2011 Dear Parents and Students In this last Newsletter for 2011, I close with the prayer on Felicity with which we began the year. This prayer was composed by the student leaders from all Loreto Schools in Australia for the year of Felicity in our schools.
“Lord, in the spirit of Felicity, May we embrace each day with an open mind, To value ourselves so we can accept others. May we inspire hearts with a humble tongue, To build a community of cheerful givers. May we strive to be women of optimism and joy – Women of generous hearts”. Last week we farewelled the Class of 2011 and thanked them for “the Light they gave and the Light they have left burning”. I congratulate them especially on their leadership and their legacy of spirit and excellence. Particular congratulations to Honour Pocket recipients and Special Prize winners whose names are published within this final edition. To the magnificent staff who have loved, guided, supported, nurtured, encouraged and inspired them I offer sincere and heartfelt thanks. I also offer profound thanks to the parents. Thank you for your trust in us and for the privilege we have been afforded, through your trust, in being able to share in such a special part of these girls’ lives. We send them forth in faith, hope and love and give thanks for the gifts they have given. CONGRATULATIONS
To Zoe Clarke (Year 8) on winning the major role of Jane Banks in the musical “Mary Poppins”. This is an amazing achievement and such an exciting opportunity for Zoe, who will share the role with three other girls (all from Sydney). Zoe has been in Sydney working hard, in full rehearsal, this past month. We hear that she is having “a great time”. In the lead up to Christmas she will perform a number of shows in Sydney. The Brisbane season, however, will commence after Christmas. We wish her every success. We know she will be magnificent.
BON VOYAGE
We offer our prayers and blessings to those staff and students travelling to Germany this week for the German exchange trip. We wish them enriching and happy travels and ask our Gracious God to especially watch over them and to keep them safe. Viel Glück.
ENROLMENTS YEARS 7 AND 8, 2015 As you are aware we will be introducing Year 7 in 2015. The College is now accepting enrolments for Year 7 and 8, 2015 from students in Year 3 and 4 in 2011. Enrolments will be open until 30 April 2012 after which time offers of a place will be made based solely on application criteria (ie pre-offer interviews no longer necessary). Offers will be made during May, 2012. All Religious Institute Catholic girls’ schools in Brisbane have agreed that any offers made by them will remain open until 15 June 2012. Loreto will, in future, only conduct interviews for students already accepted into the College and these will be held closer to the time of their commencement at Loreto. Enrolment applications for Year 7, 2016 will open in February 2012 and close in February, 2013.

THANK YOU AND BEST WISHES
Our best wishes are offered to Mr Terry Cutts and Mrs Sharon Siebert both of whom are retiring. Mr Cutts has been at Loreto for 34 Years. So we offer to him our very special and particular love and a sincere vote of thanks and appreciation for all he has given over such a long period of time. Mrs Siebert has worked in the office for 15 years. Her expertise, generosity and humour will be greatly missed.
We offer a special farewell to Ms Robbie McInnes who leaves us this year to take up a position closer to home. We thank her for her wonderful gifts shared with us and wish her every blessing for the future.
Other teachers leaving us are Ms Melissa Cox and Ms Zoey Grills both of whom have been marvellous in taking on replacement positions this year at short notice and in doing such a fine job. We shall certainly miss them and wish them every success in the future.
We thank replacement teachers who have been with us this term: Mrs Libby Davies, Mrs Meg Logan, Ms Jess Badke and Mrs Margaret Dowling and wish them well also.
We offer best wishes to staff taking leave in Term One: Mr Kemp, Ms McCormack and Mrs Valentine. We wish them an enjoyable time of refreshment, renewal and rest.
To Ms Tilly and Ms Wilson we send our prayers and very best wishes for their forthcoming weddings. May their special and sacred celebrations be joyous and blessed.
To Mr Bryan Deveson we offer sincere and heartfelt thanks for his loyal and generous service as Year 10 Coordinator for the past 16 years. We look forward to his continued presence amongst us and his valued wisdom and guidance as we welcome Ms Michelle Davidson into the role of Year 10 Coordinator in 2012. We thank Ms Davidson for her many years of service as the Art Coordinator at Loreto and look forward to her contribution in this new capacity.

Music News Loreto Choirs Over the past few years, Year 9 students have alternated between participating in the Junior and Senior Choirs, depending on upcoming events. Each time the College has run a Year 8/9 Junior Choir this group has performed very successfully. Therefore, in 2012 we will be running a Junior Choir consisting of students in Years 8 and 9, and a Senior Choir for students in Years 10, 11 and 12. Entry to Chorale will be by audition with places available to students in Years 9 through 12 (as previously). Current members of the 2011 Chorale will continue in the group in 2012 and extra places will be filled by auditions to be held early in 2012 by the new Choral Conductor. 2012 Ensemble Rehearsal Schedule Could parents and students please be aware that due to changes to the College Timetable, staffing and a variety of other factors, there are likely to be significant changes to the Ensemble Rehearsal Schedule in 2012. Confirmed changes at this stage include:
*No Combined Orchestra rehearsals for the first 7 weeks of school while the Loreto / Villanova Musical is undertaken.
*Senior Choir will rehearse on Monday afternoons for the first 7 weeks of Term 1 and then return to the regular Tuesday afternoon once the Musical has been completed.
*String Ensemble will move to a Wednesday morning at 7:15 am
*A Chorale rehearsal time will be organised once auditions are completed and membership of the group is finalised.
A likely rehearsal schedule for 2012 is as follows:

Music Camp All Music Camp invites were posted home Thursday week ago and were due back to the Music Office last Friday. There are still about 17 students from the initial invitation list who have not returned their forms. If these forms are not returned tomorrow (Wednesday 23 November) we will look at sending a second round of invites to fill any spare places.
It is a pleasure to announce that Dr Paul Svoboda Will become our full-time guitar tutor in 2012. Dr Svoboda has been teaching guitar part-time at Loreto for more than 10 years and has done a fantastic job in increasing participation and enthusiasm for this instrument, as well as the performance standards of both Guitar Ensembles.
Congratulations To Sophia Fardoulys (B+) and Lucia Palacios (A+) who recently completed Grade 2 AMEB Violin exams with great success.
Broadway DVD If you have ordered a DVD from the Broadway concert they are now available for collection from the Music Office. We also have a few spare copies if you would like to purchase one.
Lost We are currently unable to locate a small black Peavey 110 Bass amp that normally lives in Room 702. It was last seen about two weeks ago around the time of the Live & Wired Music Festival. If anyone knows where it has gone to, please contact Mr Langford at the Music Office as this equipment is used daily by students in the 8—10 music classes. Popular String Ensemble, the Deep Blue Orchestra, are running a five-day Summer School for young string players in January 2012. Millinery Service The school will be engaging the services of a milliner to clean, stiffen and re-block hats over the Christmas holidays. Cost will be $22. Hats that require extra attention e.g. extra cleaning , repair etc will be charged at a higher price. Hats are to be handed into the office on Friday 25 November BEFORE going to assembly. Hats and band must be in a plastic bag with students name on the outside of the bag. All hats and bands must be clearly marked with the owners name. Please note that due to our hats being white the Milliner is unable to perform miracles on these hats but she endeavours to do her best! This is an outside service and the school accepts no responsibility for hats handed in. Payment is required at the time of collection. Hats must be collected from the uniform shop on Saturday January 21 2012 between 9am - 12md.
Second Hand Uniforms /Books Sale Day 26th November 8.00 am - 12midday Now is the time to clear out all those uniforms that are no longer required. The shop needs to re-stock for sale day. Uniforms can be handed into the school office. Please make sure all items are clean and clearly marked with your name and address. Please note that the uniform shop will not be open on Friday 25 November. The Uniform shop will be open on Saturday 21 January 2012 between 9am - 12md. Please note - Payment for any books or uniforms sold on our Sale day will not be processed until early March. Credit for books sold will appear on your Term 2 fees statement. Thank you.
Booklists Symons Booklist are now on the Loreto Web Page. Hard copies will no longer be supplied to students. Orders have to be placed directly through Symons via their web site. Years 8 - 10 will be required to hand in any books they wish to sell through the secondhand book shop on Tuesday 22 November. Please make sure that all books are in a plastic bag and that your “to sell” form is correctly filled out re- payment for books sold. Students will be called down to the collection area during the morning. Year 11 can hand their books in to the service area once they are no longer required otherwise they can be handed in on Wednesday 23 November to room 605. Lists of books that can be sold/purchased secondhand will be sent home with students during the week commencing 14 November.

P & F News On behalf of the P and F, I would like to thank parents for all their support in 2011. It was great to see so many at community events held at different times throughout the year. LORETO TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2012
All tennis players are asked to compete in the Loreto Tennis Championships, as part of the trials for places in 2012 Tennis teams. Trophies will be awarded. It will be conducted at Loreto College Saturday 4 February 7.30am to 12.00pm – Year 8 12.00pm to 5.00pm – Year 9 Sunday 5 February 7.30am to 12.00pm – Year 10 12.00pm to 5.00pm – Year 11 and 12
All players need to sign up on the registration sheet by Thursday 2 February outside the Sport office.
A DRAW WILL BE PUT TOGETHER ONCE ALL GIRLS HAVE SIGNED ON.
