How quickly the end of the year is approaching. This week we have our last classes with the Year 12’s (before their exams) and we now begin the rituals of farewell and thanks to them. We thank them for their leadership, their spirit, their energy and their generosity. May the uncertainty of the future not worry nor trouble them, for they can be quietly confident in the knowledge that they are richly blessed and duly ready to step forward proudly as Graduates of Loreto. This Friday the Year 12 Leaders formally ‘handover’ their leadership to the Year 11’s who are eagerly awaiting the excitement and the challenges of the year ahead. Art Department Year 8 Red have been exploring shape and pattern as they developed designs suitable for screen printing. This involved exploring a range of possibilities as they explored positive and negative shapes, the repetition of shape to create pattern and the techniques involving in creating an image which was suitable to be cut from a paper stencil. Drama News On Monday and Tuesday evening this week, drama students from Year 10 presented their Collage Dramas. This public performance is the culmination of three years study of Drama and students create, direct and perform original drama based on a theme chosen by them. These evenings are always entertaining and parents greatly enjoy seeing their daughters performing with such imagination and polish. This year the themes were diverse and students employed creative performance techniques. Congratulations to all Year 10 Drama students! Kerry Williams - Drama Coordinator
Language Department News French On Wednesday 22 October the Year 11 and 12 French students enjoyed a delicious three course meal at Le Classic Restaurant. The girls had the opportunity to practise their language skills, sample traditional French food and listen to French music. A fantastic evening was had by all!
On another note, after much anticipation, the French trip now departs in less than a month! The travellers are busy attending lunch time meetings to brush up on French conversation topics and familiarise themselves with the amazing places that they will see during their three week visit. A huge thank you to Miss Stewart, Mrs Dawes and Ms Badke for their excellent organisation of the trip. Thank you also to the Year 12 students who have offered their insights and advice after participating in the 2012 exchange program to Bordeaux. German In addition to the Oktoberfest for Teens that was discussed in last week’s newsletter, the German teachers have been busily preparing for next year’s exchange programs. Last week’s information meeting was well attended and families learnt more about the itinerary to Germany which includes visits to Berlin and Dresden along with many other exciting places after the girls’ homestay in Bad Homburg. Before that, we look forward to welcoming guests from the Maria Ward Schule, our German sister school, to Loreto in April. Japanese The Year 12 Japanese class had a lovely start to their last term at Loreto as they visited Mizu restaurant in West End. The girls were able to sample many, many plates of delicious Japanese food whilst putting their Japanese language skills into practice as well. Music News Lion King The Year 11 excursion to this fantastic musical has finally arrived! Students will be given their tickets in class on Monday and Tuesday this week. All transport arrangements to and from QPAC are the responsibility of parents and students. We would ask that they meet Mr Langford and Mrs Fox on the Cloak Room level by 7:40 pm on the evening. We will walk the class around to the Brisbane Eye directly after the show as this is a convenient place to meet. Could parents please collect their daughters from this venue at 10:45 pm? Public Speaking News This term has been very busy with preparation for the ESU Competition. Last Monday night speeches were given by Amelia Abdelrazek, Sophia Dabinett, Priyanka Mirchandani, Ruby Daly and Austen Whitewood in the Intermediate section. Then, on Tuesday night, Aislind Bell, Lauren Michael, Alex White and Taylor Whitewood competed in the Senior section. Going forward to the Final are Austen Whitewood and Taylor Whitewood. While best wishes go to Austen and Taylor for November 10, congratulations must be given to the other girls who spoke so confidently. Each girl did Loreto proud! Last night, it was time for Lisa Gorse and Morgan O’Neill to shine. Both girls had to prepare a new speech and give an impromptu speech for the Junior Finals. Music News Congratulations To all the Music students who performed so well over the weekend. On Friday Night, the majority of the school’s ensembles presented at our annual Music Night and, from the debut gig of the Improvised Jazz Ensemble and the first on-stage performance for the Beginner String Ensemble, right through to the concert finale from experienced groups such as Concert Band One and Chorale, every item demonstrated the hard work and musicality of Loreto students. You, as parents, should be proud of your daughters who are achieving so well as they develop both their musical skills and their sense of community and team work through participation in these sorts of events. Then, on Sunday the members of the Senior Choir sang at the 10am Mass at the Cathedral of St Stephen. The girls sang beautifully and lead the Mass with respect and dignity. They were fine representatives of the College and many comments were received from parishioners and community members about their conduct and outstanding musical contribution. Well done to all musicians! Senior Choir The Senior Choir will be leading the music at the Senior Graduation (during the school day) on Friday 21 November. In preparation for this important school event, it is expected that all Year 10 - 11 members of the Choir will attend rehearsal on Tuesday 11 November. This is the last Senior Choir rehearsal for the year so all members of the Senior Choir (Years 10 and 11) must attend. Junior Choir Has no more Thursday afternoon rehearsals. However, the girls are encouraged to attend Senior Choir next Tuesday afternoon 11 November from 3:30pm until 5:00pm on the MWC Stage in order to prepare for the Graduation Mass. This is optional but not attending this rehearsal will mean that they won’t be singing at the Graduation Mass.

Private Music Tuition Applications All students who intend to take private lessons on any instrument/voice/music theory should be now have returned forms to re-enrol for 2015. If you have not done this already, forms are available from the Music Office and your Private Tutor. Please return these asap. BOOKLIST - 2015 Loreto College book orders are to be placed on-line. Please go to the Symons Website: www.symondsed.com.au and follow the prompts. Our school code is LOR01 (LORZERO1). Orders can be placed from Wednesday 22 October 2014. When ordering on-line, payment must be made by credit card and will be processed immediately. ORDERS MUST BE PLACED ON-LINE BY: Tuesday 2 December 2014 You will receive a confirmation email once your order has been placed. Should you not receive confirmation and an Order Reference Number, please contact Symons Educational Supplies on info@symonsed.com.au, as your order has not been received.
OPTION 1: Home Delivery – Orders will be processed and delivered to your residential address between Monday 12 - Friday 23 January 2015. OPTION 2: Pre-packs will be available for collection in the MULWITH BUILDING on:
MONDAY 26 JANUARY 2015: 9am - 3pm & TUESDAY 27 JANUARY 2015: 9am - 12 Midday Should any item not be available at the time of delivery, it will be forwarded to the College once it arrives and your daughter will be notified. We will endeavour to place missing item notices in your pack. Should any item be discontinued by the suppliers, the amount will be deducted from your booklist and your invoice will show the CORRECT amount to be paid. Damaged items must be returned to Symons Educational Supplies no later than Tuesday 31 March 2015 with your daughter’s name, class and pre-pack number (refer to your invoice). Please order carefully as we do not accept returns for incorrect ordering. Prices on your booklist are correct at the date of printing and are subject to change by the distributor.
LATE ORDERS will be delivered to Loreto College at the earliest convenience. However, there is no guarantee it will arrive before school begins. Please place your order on time to ensure your daughter(s) will start the year with the correct text books and stationery.
