FAREWELL
I take this opportunity to thank and to farewell a number of teachers from Loreto. We send our best wishes to Mrs Terryll Dowden, Mrs Claire Matheson and Mrs Helen Radvan each of whom has been on special leave for one or more years. We wish them well for their futures and thank them sincerely for the special contributions they each made during their years of service and generosity given to Loreto. Long may they remain as members of the wider Loreto family. I also wish to thank and farewell Mrs Rosemary O’Neill who has been a member of the teaching staff for the past nine years working in the faculties of English, Drama and Religious Education. Mrs O’Neill has given exceptionally generous service especially through her coordination and leadership of Debating and Public Speaking. Mrs O’Neill displays a selfless commitment to her students and her profession. We will greatly miss her passion and energy and we wish her every blessing for her future beyond Loreto. We extend to Mrs Jeanette Little and Mr Christopher Jones, both of whom will be taking long service leave in Term One, our very best wishes for a period of refreshment and renewal. We also wish Mr Ian Wright and his wife our very best wishes for the impending birth of their first children (twins). May the joy and blessing of this time be especially filled with grace. We offer best wishes also to Ms Kate Ludwig who will be taking special leave in 2016. We wish her well and pray that her travels will bring her safely home to us in 2017. We also thank a number of staff who have been with us for varying periods this year. We thank them for their time with us and for the way each of them so quickly entered into the spirit and the energy of Loreto. We wish Ms Biskupovich, Ms Coyle, Ms Labaeye, Ms Law and Ms Platz all the very best for the future. GERMAN TRIP We offer our very best wishes for a wonderfully enriching experience and safe travels to our students and teachers who are travelling to Germany these holidays a part of our German Exchange Program with the Maria-Ward Schule in Bad Homburg. We know that they will all have a most marvellous time enjoying the joys (and challenges) of a European winter. We wish them every blessing. I extend particular thanks to the Coordinator of the trip, Frau Ward and the accompanying staff Frau MacDonald and Ms Carty. We look forward to the many stories they will share with us upon their return. CONGRATULATIONS
To Bridget Dixon (Year 8) who will be competing in the National Championships for Cheerleading being held in Melbourne this week. We wish her and the State team, of which she is part, every success.

Art Department News Year 10 have completed their Artists’ Books. The Artists’ Books completed by Year 10 Art Students have been characterised by creative and innovative think supported by skilful resolution. The works explore the use of visual metaphor to convey meaning with a diversity of themes from the labyrinth as a metaphor for life to a needle and thread as the in vain attempts to repair what is broken. The students commitment to their work with a willingness to explore new ideas and to be experimental with their media will be a strong foundation for the Art practice in their Senior Studies. Year 9 Fundraising During Term 4 the girls of Year 9 have been busy organising homeroom fundraising activities to support past student, Aislinn Healy in sponsoring the education of Adizeri and Deogratias in Tanzania . It was a wonderful journey for the girls to experience. They brainstormed, planned and prepared for their own homeroom activity. Together we shared: Duffin Day, Crazy sock day, Disney Day, Pink Lips and of course, the lolly shop. Together the girls raised $782 and will present this to Aislinn Healy at our final year assembly on Friday. This amount of money will make a huge difference to Adizeri and Deogratias and I’m very grateful to all the girls on their efforts. Kirsty Gore – Year 9 Coordinator
Music News Music Scholarships Each year Loreto College is able to offer a limited number of Music Tuition Scholarship, thanks to the funds raised by the parent’s Music Support Group. To be eligible to apply for a scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
Currently having private music lessons at Loreto college
Demonstrated regular attendance at lessons and application to practice
Proven commitment to and involvement in extra-curricular musical activities within the college
Family financial circumstances
Scholarship Application Forms can be collected by students from the Music Office or parents are welcome to email music@loreto.qld.edu.au and we can send you the document that way. Please note that applications were due by Monday 23 November (yesterday!). However, as some parents have had difficulty accessing the Application Form, this due date has been extended to Thursday 26th November (this week). As Tuition Scholarships are awarded on a yearly basis, students who are currently recipients need to reapply to be considered for 2016. Instrument Collection All parents and students are reminded that student instruments must be taken home over the Christmas holidays. We would ask that the you do this by Thursday 26th November (this week) as access to the Instrument Storeroom will become difficult after that (on Friday staff will be busy with Final Assemblies and next week is full of meetings, so staff will rarely be available to unlock the storeroom). Thanks and Farewell To Mr Matthew Cocking, who was our Percussion Tutor and Ensemble Conductor for six years. For the past year Mr Cocking has been Acting Head of Culture at St Josephs College, a challenging and important role at that school. Mr Cocking has now been appointed to that position on a permanent basis and, while we are sad to see him leave Loreto, we congratulate him on his appointment and wish him all the very best for the years to come!
Graduation Mass Thank you to all the instrumentalists, Senior & Junior Choir members who gave up their time last Thursday night to provide music for the Year 12 Graduation Mass. While this is a compulsory performance listed in the calendar for the Senior Choir members, we still appreciate those who make the effort to meet this important school commitment. We also would like to thank the instrumentalists and Junior Choir members who volunteered their time to assist. Music Camp If your daughter’s Camp Application has been accepted, you should have received a Confirmation Email on Monday this week. If you were expecting your daughter to attend and did not receive this email, please ring the Music Office urgently. Water Polo Training There is Water polo training this week 23 November. The last round for this half of the season finishes Round 8, 28 November. The next round, Round 9 will start 30 January 2016. The water polo training sessions will start back on the 25 January 2016. The teams will be in contacted in regard to the change in training for the first week back of term.
