We also extend a warm return to our staff and student travellers from both the Japan trip and the inaugural Northern Territory Trekking Challenge. We look forward to further news of both trips at upcoming assemblies. Due to unexpected circumstance, Mrs Kerensa O’Neill will conclude her me at Loreto this Friday. We thank her sincerely for her generous me, commitment and enthusiasm these past six months and wish her well for the future. We offer special prayers of healing for her mother in the months ahead. May her recovery be strong and full. We thus extend a welcome return to Mrs Anne Heathcote who will once again join the English and History facul es from next week. TREKKING FOR CHANGE – seekers of truth, doers of jus ce During the first week of the holidays it was my absolute pleasure and privilege to accompany Mrs Diane Hanson, Head of Geography and Economics, and ten deligh ul students on the inaugural Northern Territory “Real Life Challenge”. Over four days we trekked 44kms of the amazing Larapinta Trail (near Alice Springs). The landscape, the stars, the space, the air, the vastness, the majesty, the contrast and the colours le us awe struck and inspired. We also visited the Santa Teresa Community and an Indigenous Women’s Health Clinic in Alice Springs. As part of this challenge the students aim to raise $10,000 (a target they have already nearly reached) towards “closing the gap” for indigenous women with the assistance of the ACCF (Australian Cervical Cancer Founda on). We thank both World Expedi ons (especially Anne, Shelly and Joel) and the ACCF (especially Ms Julie Weston) for making this trip possible and for suppor ng us in our aspira ons to make a difference for good.

This is a fantastic concert that covers the history of Rock Music with artists Terry Murray and Gillian Eastoe. fxÇ|ÉÜ c{çá|vá XåvâÜá|ÉÇ àÉ WÜxtÅãÉÜÄw As part of the Loreto College Senior Physics Program, students in Year 11 will be visiting the Dreamworld theme park at Coomera this Friday 20 July to conduct experiments and apply what they have been studying in Kinematics, Dynamics and Mechanics to the features of the theme park. The data yielded from this outing and the concepts learned will contribute towards an extended response task for assessment. The cost for this excursion is covered within the fee structure of the school and so the only money that the students will need is for lunch, morning tea and afternoon tea, plus any spending money you deem appropriate. Athletics Carnival Well done to all girls for their spirit and involvement in the carnival held on the last day of Term 2. The participation was tremendous and the house spirit and enthusiasm made for a great day. A sincere thank you must go to all staff who worked very hard to ensure the smooth running of the day and to the students who assisted in any way. A number of records were broken on the day. Congratulations to the following competitors: 13 years Long Jump Nikita Daley (old record was 4.50m and new record is 4.68m) 16 Years Relay – Mulwith (old record was 58.57secs and new record is 57.45secs)
The Athletics Squad for 2012 - Has been announced and all members of the squad have been given details of the training schedule. Training is well under way and all girls are expected to make several training sessions a week. It is strongly encouraged for athletes to attend the Tuesday afternoon session at QEII. A bus will transport the girls to and from the stadium. The first QE11 training sessions begin on Tuesday 24 July 2012.
