THE RENOVATIONS CONTINUE . . . Over the next few months we will commence what will be the final renovations to take place in 2014 in readiness for the expansion of the College in 2015. Classroom 211, on the first floor of the main classroom block, will soon be renovated to become administrative office spaces. This is necessary so that we can expand the current Student Reception area in the main Administration block over the Christmas holidays to make it a larger space for the increased number of students.

Eventually, both the existing Services Area and the Sick Bay area at the front of school and the new Office spaces that are about to be constructed above it, in Room 211, will form a new “front of house” Public Reception for Loreto. However, this development (as illustrated below) is for future completion, a timeline for which has not yet been set.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT DISRUPTION DURING G20 Travel into and across the city will not be as easy as usual over the G20 long weekend from Friday 14 to Sunday 16 November and in the lead up to the event. Details below:
South Brisbane train station will be closed from Monday 10 November to Sunday 16 November. Students can use South Bank station as an alternative.
There will be major bus disruptions from 7.00pm Thursday 13 November to Sunday 16 November, including the closure of Busway stations between RCH Herston and Woolloongabba stations and many CBD bus stops. If your students commute to and from the city and surrounding suburbs by bus, they should aim to leave the city before 6.00pm Thursday 13 November to avoid disruptions.
The Council is working to ensure Brisbane's traffic and public transport network will be operational for the morning peak on Monday 17 November; however, disruptions should be expected as services return to normal after the summit. Buses will operate as normal following their regular routes, however delays and congestion in and around the city should be expected. Students should allow extra time for their journey.

Public Speaking News Last evening, eight students from Brisbane and its outer areas competed for the title of Intermediate Champion for the English Speaking Union (ESU) Public Speaking Competition. Among these outstanding speakers were Loreto’s Austen Whitewood and Taylor Whitewood. Speaking on the prepared topic of “Imagining Differently” and speaking to “The Promise of Science” as the impromptu speech title, both girls acquitted themselves beautifully. They were polished, persuasive and powerful! While the girls were wonderful and received very positive feedback, the winner was from Boys’ Grammar. Music News Congratulations To all the students from Senior Choir and Symphony Orchestra who performed so well at last Friday’s Hanrahan Theatre 10th Anniversary Concert. You learnt an amazing amount of music and really astounded the audience, not to mention our professional guest soloists, with the quality of your performance. The audience did not want to leave, demanding two encores! Congratulations and thanks also to Dr Svoboda, Isabella Scott, Grea Effeney, Lauren Effeney, Abbey Martin and Stefanie Moloney who performed beautifully at the Cocktail Evening farewell for Mr Pat Elsworthy. Senior Choir The Senior Choir will be leading the music at the Senior Graduation (during the school day) on Friday 21 November. In preparation for this important school event, it is expected that all Year 10 -11 members of the Choir will attend rehearsal on Tuesday 11 November. This is the last Senior Choir rehearsal for the year so all members of the Senior Choir (Years 10 and 11) must attend. Junior Choir Girls are encouraged to attend Senior Choir this Tuesday afternoon 11 November from 3:30pm until 5:00pm on the MWC Stage in order to prepare for the Graduation Mass. This is optional but not attending this rehearsal will mean that they won’t be singing at the Graduation Mass. Don’t forget, this is the group you will be singing in next year! Ensemble Music All students should be now have returned their ensemble music to their conductors. If for some reason you have not done so, please return your music to the Music Office by the end of this week. Music Camp 2015 In the next few days, Music Camp Invites will be emailed directly to parents of continuing students in Concert Band One, Guitar Ensemble One, Senior Choir and String Ensemble/Chamber Strings. If you are expecting an invite and do not receive this email by the end of this week, please contact the Music Office urgently as there will be strict time limits on the return of applications to attend and numbers on the camp are always limited! Music Photos for Sale Have you ever admired all the music photos on the picture wall in the MWC Mezzanine Corridor? Are there some particularly images you would just love to keep? Then you are in luck! On Wednesday 19 November, all photos will go on sale for 20c to 50c (depending on size). Money raised will go to the SVDP Christmas Appeal. Private Tuition Forms Please note that these forms should by now have all been returned by students who intend to take Private Tuition next year. If you have not attended to this matter, please do so urgently. Music Support Group The final MSG meeting for 2014 will be held this Wednesday 12 November in Room 605. The CaSSSA Basketball season has come to a close with some impressive results. Congratulations to the Inter B Basketball team on winning the premiership after remaining undefeated all season! The team consisted of Georgia Brown, Madeline Christie, Rachael Dalton, Caitlin Dixon, Grace Dwyer, Eliza Greene, Chloe Loveday, Madeline Miller, Lauren O’Neill and Victoria Smith. Their grand final win against Mary Makillop was impressive, well done girls! A special mention must also go to the Open A team who played AHS for 3 rd place and defeated them 29 – 24. This is the first time in many years that the Loreto Open As have defeated AHS. Well done to the team on a great finish to their season! Our Junior As also finished in 3rd position on the ladder with a strong win against Mt Alvernia in their final playoff, great work girls! This Thursday night semi-final and final games will be played in the Open Division and Round 12 games will be played in 16 and 14 Years Divisions. P & F News P&F Commits to Extra Dance, New Equipment for MWC The P&F will hold an extra student dance next year to cater for the arrival of Year 7 students and buy new audio-visual equipment for the Mary Ward Centre (MWC). The decisions were made at the final meeting of the year on 28 October. Dances will be held for Years 9 - 12 in Term 1 and for Years 7 - 10 in Term 3. The P&F has also agreed to fund the purchase of two screens and audio visual data projectors for the MWC at a cost of more than $20,000. The funds will come from more than $44,000 raised from events in 2014 and previous years and parent levies. It also continues the P&F’s funding of upgrades of the MWC which have included the installation of fans and a drop curtain. The P&F next meets on Tuesday 3 February 2015.

Should any item be discontinued by the suppliers, the amount will be deducted from your booklist and your invoice will show the CORRECT amount to be paid. Damaged items must be returned to Symons Educational Supplies no later than Tuesday 31 March 2015 with your daughter’s name, class and pre-pack number (refer to your invoice). Please order carefully as we do not accept returns for incorrect ordering. Prices on your booklist are correct at the date of printing and are subject to change by the distributor.
LATE ORDERS will be delivered to Loreto College at the earliest convenience. However, there is no guarantee it will arrive before school begins. Please place your order on time to ensure your daughter(s) will start the year with the correct text books and stationery.
