It does matter what we believe This is our planned subject for Sunday April 7 when our speaker, Richard Mellowes, will be talking about matters of faith and conviction. As Christadelphians, our faith is founded on certain beliefs, some of which are summarised at the bottom of the page. For instance, we believe in the existence of God and we believe that the Bible is His inspired word. By that, we mean the Bible in its entirety because we can’t start picking and choosing which parts to believe, ignoring the inconvenient. Accepting the whole Bible to be the word of God, we try to act upon that belief. The Bible becomes the yardstick by which our beliefs, our doctrine and our actions are measured. A thing is either right according to the scriptures or it’s completely wrong. It’s either something God has taught us and requires of us, or it isn’t. So if we want to live our lives according to God’s standards, we must go to His book. Nothing else will do – there is no substitute. Moreover, we have to do it for ourselves for it is something that no one else can do for us. So for us, belief leads to a desire to live our lives according to that belief. For us, it really does matter what we believe. As to why we believe the things we do, why don’t you come and hear what our speaker has to say? They do not profess to have received any new revelation but hold that the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are able to make a person “wise unto salvation”. Believing in the Divine authorship of the Bible, they reject any interpretation which fails to harmonise all the testimonies of the Holy Scriptures. They believe in the personal visible return of Christ to the earth, to establish his power and reign as King throughout the world.
