MP Launches Campaign for £20 Million Investment in High Green

Penistone and Stocksbridge MP Marie Tidball has launched a series of campaigns aimed at securing major investment for High Green, including a bid for £20 million of Government funding to improve the village.
The proposed investment follows Dr Tidball’s Pride in High Green community meeting in April, where residents highlighted their priorities for the area. The MP is calling for funding to help transform High Green through projects including improvements to the high street, better home insulation, upgrades to community spaces, a new Hopper Bus service and enhanced facilities for families. A key part of the campaign is the introduction of a Hopper Bus linking High Green with Chapeltown railway station, the village centre and the Northern General Hospital. Dr Tidball said residents had raised concerns that reductions in bus services had left some estates isolated, prompting her to launch a public petition in support of the proposal.

She has also written an open letter to Sheffield City Council calling for new play equipment at Mortomley Park, including modern children’s play facilities and an outdoor gym. Earlier this year, she raised the issue in Parliament, highlighting the importance of outdoor play for children’s wellbeing and asking how communities could access the Government’s £18 million playground improvement fund.

Dr Tidball said she has also taken up concerns raised by residents over speeding, dangerous parking and potholes on Greengate Lane, Wortley Road and Mortomley Lane, contacting Sheffield City Council and Amey about the issues. She has also written to South Yorkshire Police regarding crime hotspots and plans to hold discussions with local GP practices to address concerns over appointment waiting times. Page
Marie Tidball said High Green had “the talent and the heart” but needed investment to match local ambitions, adding that she hoped residents would support the campaigns by signing petitions and sharing their views.
