An 8-year-old girl from Chapeltown, Sheffield, has spent the last two years growing her hair to donate 10 inches to The Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides real hair wigs to children and young people who lose their hair due to cancer treatment or other medical conditions. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the charity, making her donation especially significant. Emily Topham was inspired to start her hair-growing journey after admiring a friend’s short haircut at school and wanting a similar style herself. Her parents
then told her about The Little Princess Trust and how her hair could help another child, and Emily immediately embraced the idea, showing her naturally kind and caring nature. So far, Emily has helped raise over £700, covering the cost of one real-hair wig. Any additional donations will go directly towards funding another wig for a child in need. The “big chop” is scheduled for 30 December and will take place at her Auntie Joanne’s house, where Emily usually gets her haircuts. It promises to be a special moment shared with close family, and Emily is said to be excited to see her new look. She has even expressed a desire to grow her hair again in the future so she can donate once more.

Emily has loved reading the messages of encouragement sent by supporters, which have filled her with pride and confidence. Her family says they have been completely overwhelmed by the generosity and support shown. Emily’s mum, Chelsea Brunt, said: “We feel it is so important to raise awareness of this wonderful charity and the joy it brings to children during extremely difficult times.
