PAYING TRIBUTE TO QUEEN ELIZABETH II People are looking for ways to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II after her death last week aged 96. Buckingham Palace announced the Queen's death on Thursday evening with a short statement that read: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon." Sheffield residents wishing to lay floral tributes can do so in an area that has been set aside in the Peace Gardens in the city centre. Sheffield's Lord Mayor SionedMair Richard added: “As a mark of our respect, flags will be flown at half-mast on civic buildings. Books of Condolence will also be opened in Sheffield and Stocksbridge Town Halls until the day after the funeral. Sheffield Town Hall will be open from 9 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday and Stocksbridge Town Hall will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There will also be an eBook of Condolence on the City Council’s website."

Floral tributes can be laid in the Clocktower Gardens, Stocksbridge. Sheffield Cathedral will be open 8:30 am to 6 pm throughout the 10-day national period of mourning for anyone who wishes to write in a book of condolence, light a candle or lay flowers. The Very Revd Abi Thompson, Dean of Sheffield said: “Queen Elizabeth II has been a committed servant of the people, a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and she will be much missed. Here in Sheffield, we especially have very happy memories of her visit to the Cathedral in 2015 for the Royal Maundy Service where she honoured 89 men and 89 women in recognition of their service to the church and the local community. This was the first time the Royal Maundy had been distributed in Sheffield and many people here remember the bright weather

and joyful atmosphere that accompanied her visit. Our commemorations and reflections on the life of Her Majesty will feel much more sombre over the coming days, but the happy memories of the lives she touched in this region on that day, and the impact she has had on many lives throughout the world will live on for decades to come.” A memorial service to be held Sunday 18 September – 6pm. Sheffield Cathedral will be screening the funeral of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on a big screen inside and outside the Cathedral on 19 September. All welcome. The Cathedral doors will open from 8:30 with morning prayer at 8:45. Rotherham Councillor Tajamal Khan, Mayor of Rotherham, issued this guidance: "Official Books of Condolence will be opened Cont. on page 2...
