HAPPY HANDS TURNS 25 THURS JULY 25 2024

A nursery in North Sheffield is celebrating its 25th birthday.

Happy Hands celebrated its Quarter Century Anniversary on Friday, the 19th of July 2024. The nursery situated next to St. Ann’s Primary School was first opened in 1999 by Ellen Baker, who was then the Headteacher of the primary school, in the hope of boosting their numbers. Although a lot has changed over the years, such as redevelopment and staff, Happy Hands has received an Outstanding rating in their previous three Ofsted reports. “It’s great to see what a success it has become. Looking around and seeing all the Happy Hands dotted around the place, and seeing the number of children here, it’s clear what a success it has been,” Ellen Baker said. All the parents, staff, and of course the children were invited to share in this momentous occasion. Cakes and soft drinks were served, along with coffee for the adults, while a local band ser-

enaded all the guests as they came and went throughout the afternoon.

Angela Moffat currently runs Happy Hands and has been here from the very first day. She, along with the nursery, is still going strong 25 years later. “Every day is a different day. Every day the children inspire me to do something different, and so do the parents. All the children that come through the doors each and every day are amazing and so understanding of other children as well. I am lucky to be a part of this for so long, and I just want to say thank you to all the parents who have brought their children to Happy Hands, as well as their talents and skills. They’ve been amazing,” Angela explained. From a small nursery with fewer than 20 pupils at the start of its life, Happy Hands has become a beloved part of the community as it continues to grow and develop the young minds of the future. It’s not difficult to see why Ofsted rates this nursery so highly. 25 years old and going strong, Happy Hands is a nursery by the community, for the community.
