Leon Sykes, 18, of Victoria Street, Stocksbridge, and a 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have been charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon. They have been charged in connection with an incident on West Street in the early hours of Saturday morning ( 9 March) which left a 26-year-old man with serious injuries.

He remains in hospital in a stable condition. Mr Sykes and the boy, who cannot be named because of his age, did not enter a plea and the case was sent to be heard at the crown court on 8 April. The pair were also charged with possession of an offensive weapon. The judge said Mr Sykes, and the youth should be remanded in custody ahead of their next court date.
