We’re also celebrating Culture Day, a fantastic event that brought students and staff together to appreciate the many cultures represented across our college community To round things off, we ’ ve got a bit of a different, and very inspiring story, from Alumnus Jason - if you ’ re feeling nervous about results day, this is one for you.

This year ’ s enrolment meetings will be taking place via telephone, with onboarding activities to be completed online
In preparation for our enrolment, you will be asked to confirm your personal details, submit a photo for your college ID card, and update your contact information. We will send you a reminder for this soon.

TRANSPORT TO COLLEGE

The free college shuttle bus will be running from Cambridge Railway Station (timetable can be found here). Alternatively, the new Cambridge South Station, located just a 7-minute walk from campus, is opening on Sunday 28th June. A member of our team will be present at the station to direct you to the college
NEED SOME HELP?
SUMMER WORK 2026
One of the most important activities to help prepare you for your studies as a Long Road student is completing the summer work tasks for each of your A Level, Level 3 Applied and Level 4 subjects.
These activities aren’t here to trip you up or catch you out, they’re designed to give you an extra insight into what you will be learning during your time at Long Road We hope you enjoy completing them!

All Summer Work should be completed and ready to hand in during your first lesson at Long Road (week commencing 7 September 2026)
If you do find that you have some questions then please don’t hesitate in contacting the subject Course Team Leader - you will find their contact details at the bottom of the Summer Work page.
You can find the contact details for each Course Team Leader at the top of each summer work document. Feel free to contact them with any questions you have.
Remember, all teachers will be on annual leave during the summer holidays (16 July - 21 August) so you may not receive a response from them during this time period.

NEW CAMBRIDGE SOUTH STATION OPENING 28 JUNE!
Exciting travel news for Long Road students! Cambridge South Station is set to officially open on 28 June, and it couldn’t be closer to home just a 7-minute walk from our campus!
This major new transport link will make getting to and from college even easier, with up to 9 trains an hour and direct connections to London, Birmingham, Stansted Airport, and onward international rail services via St Pancras.
It’s a significant development for the region, improving access to education and future employment opportunities for young people across the East of England For Long Road students, it also means the college will be more connected and accessible than ever before.
We’re looking forward to seeing the positive impact this will have on our community and the opportunities it opens up for our students.
The Tiger bus pass is free of charge and designed to make public transport more affordable for young people. Launched by the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority, the Tiger Bus Pass gives you access to £1 travel across a range of bus operators and routes.
Just show your Tiger pass to the bus driver when boarding to enjoy a £1 fare.
Where can I use my Tiger Pass?
The Tiger pass can be used to travel on the bus anywhere within the Combined Authority region, including services going out of the area that start within the region

CULTURE DAY 2026
Long Road Sixth Form College’s Culture Day 2026 was a huge success, and once again proved why it is one of the most anticipated and celebrated days of the year for our community
Taking place on Wednesday 29 April 2026, the event brought students together in a vibrant, joyful celebration of culture, identity, and belonging Organised by the Multicultural Society, made up of more than 60 dedicated members, the day was the result of months of planning, passion, and collaboration
The celebrations began with students arriving in traditional and cultural dress, alongside football kits representing their home countries. The Student Centre came alive with a wide range of cultural displays,
offering opportunities for students and staff to learn about traditions from around the world. A delicious selection of homemade dishes, from jollof rice to Victoria sponge cake, was shared throughout the day, complemented by three vibrant food trucks that added to the festival atmosphere.
At lunchtime, the energy continued with football and basketball tournaments, drawing enthusiastic crowds who gathered in the sunshine to support their peers Both competitions concluded with well-deserved victories and trophy celebrations.
The day culminated in a spectacular runway showcase, featuring live music from two Long Road student bands, an impressive dance performance,

and a cultural runway representing 10 different countries. The event closed with the crowning of Mr and Miss Universe: Sheenah from the Philippines and PJ from Sri Lanka
More than just a day of celebration, Culture Day is a vital part of life at Long Road. It creates a space where students can flourish, express themselves with pride, and feel truly seen and valued. Events like this play a crucial role in fostering a sense of belonging, celebrating diversity, and strengthening the college’s inclusive community
Culture Day 2026 was a vibrant, inspiring success and a powerful reminder of the strength and unity within the Long Road community. A huge well done to our incredible Multicultural Society for their hard work, passion, and dedication in making this event so memorable.

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: JASON
Class of 2007
In 2007, I failed my exams I started working in various administrative roles within medical recruitment and education in the NHS and at the University of Cambridge In 2014, while working fulltime and with a more mature head, I returned to study. I completed a year of Environmental Science with the Open University to fill knowledge gaps and meet the entry requirements for applying through UCAS to study full-time.
In 2015, I landed an interview, which was a fluke, at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) to study
Environmental Science fulltime I found my feet, put my head down, and my grades rose quickly
Having previously struggled academically, in 2018 I graduated with the top Environmental Science Bachelor of Science (BSc) first-class degree of the entire cohort, won four academic prizes, and was awarded a scholarship for a master's degree (MSc) at QMUL. I completed my MSc in Environmental Science by Research in 2019, publishing collaborative work on UK salt marshes. I then began a PhD in Environmental Science at University College London, researching human impacts on coral reefs I was privileged to contribute to the world’s largest coral reef restoration project at the time, travelling widely to apply my skills
I also co-founded a public engagement virtual reality startup and showcased our

work to thousands of people, including royalty, at venues such as the Science Museum and the Royal Society I secured a United Nations grant to support Indonesian women scientists in coral reef research. Since then, I have specialised in biodiversity and ESG, delivering research and advisory work with organisations including Mars Incorporated, the Zoological Society of London, and Marshall Wace, and collaborating with leading scientists, public figures, and local communities.
Most recently, I have served as a Research and Development Fellow at Defra, where I authored a new framework to accelerate the adoption of innovative technologies for environmental monitoring
I still remember the buzz in the classrooms and the wider college Being surrounded by people who were curious about how the world works and discovering that the subject could connect nature, people, and policy. That spark stayed with me, even when my grades clearly did not!
For the short time that I was at Long Road that early exposure lit the fuse for everything that came next The setback taught me resilience and later to seek support, lessons that carried me through returning to higher education, earning my BSc, MSc, and PhD and into a career that spans research, teaching, consulting, and government work in biodiversity and ESG
