Long Island Lutheran Middle and High School has long been shaped by faithful vision, thoughtful leadership, and a deep commitment to serving students and families from Long Island and beyond. Rooted in our mission to glorify God by educating young people in body, mind, and spirit, LuHi continues to build on a strong foundation while responding to the evolving needs of our community.
Since the approval of the original Shine Strategic Plan in 2020, our world has changed in ways few could have anticipated. Yet through challenge and uncertainty, LuHi has remained steadfast in its purpose. The years that followed reaffirmed the importance of clarity, connection, and intentional planning as we seek to provide a meaningful and excellent educational experience for every student entrusted to our care.
Over the past year, our Board of Directors and leadership team engaged in a thoughtful process to revisit and refine our strategic priorities. Through surveys, conversations, and community input, we reflected on where we have been, where we are now, and where God is calling us next. This work has led us to Shine On
A new strategic plan, an update designed to guide our decision-making and strengthen our ability to serve students, families, faculty, alumni, and friends of the school.
Shine On builds upon the original vision and pillars of Shine. It challenges us not only to plan for the future, but to live our mission with purpose and excellence each day. This plan will serve as a roadmap as we continue to grow, innovate, and faithfully steward the resources and relationships entrusted to LuHi.

Shine On charts a bold and transformative course for LuHi’s future. Guided by the Three Horizons framework*, this plan enables us to faithfully steward what is essential today while advancing the long-term vision God has placed before us. It gives us the space, the clarity, and the courage to become a true lifepreparatory school—one where students are known deeply, challenged thoughtfully, and supported wholeheartedly as they grow into who God created them to be. Our future is marked by relational learning, spiritual formation, innovative pathways, and inspiring spaces that prepare students to rise as purposeful, confident leaders.

HORIZON 1: Light the Path (1–2 Years)
Horizon 1 is where we strengthen what shines now –bringing our current goals and commitments fully to life. In this horizon, we share and celebrate our Christian identity with greater clarity and joy. We deepen professional development as a cornerstone of educational excellence and academic innovation to ensure every student benefits from high-quality, personalized learning. We achieve our capital campaign goals and grow mission-driven revenue to fuel our vision for the future. And we enhance our spaces and storytelling to reflect the LuHi brand.
STRATEGIES
1. Clarify and elevate LuHi’s Christian identity, expanding faith-in-action opportunities and strengthening missioncentered storytelling.
2. Deepen and individualize professional development to strengthen instructional excellence and support emerging innovations.
3. Achieve current capital campaign goals to resource mission-critical facilities, programs, and long-term strategic initiatives.
4. Continue to grow mission-driven revenue to support LuHi’s future.
5. Increase access and expand LuHi’s reach beyond the current market.
6. Further enhance current campus spaces to more clearly reflect and uphold the LuHi brand, mission, and values.
HORIZON 2: Bridge to the Future (2–5 Years)
Horizon 2 bridges the gap between the present and future, with strategic investment in the ideas and emerging opportunities that are already taking shape to both strengthen our core program and move us in new directions. A core focus will be on innovations that help us rethink how we support students as individuals, how we measure growth, and how our academic model can evolve to meet the changing needs of learners and families. Alongside academic innovation, we will explore expanding our campus footprint and evolving our organizational structure to support programmatic shifts. At the same time, we will continue to master our message and empower our messengers. Alumni, students, faculty, families, and partners share authentic stories of growth, achievement, and community impact, reinforcing LuHi’s identity and extending our reach.

1. Build a unified 6–12 counseling and advising model that delivers holistic, personalized guidance.
2. Design flexible, personalized, and experiential learning pathways that deepen engagement and build toward a preparatory model.
3. Develop mastery-based approaches to expand how we measure and show growth.
4. Explore campus expansion that enables program growth and future-ready learning environments.
5. Amplify LuHi’s story and impact by mastering the message and empowering students, faculty, and community members as authentic messengers.
6. Build the habits, systems, and communications that cultivate philanthropic engagement across constituencies, providing the foundation for our long-term vision.
7. Evolve organizational structure, staffing, and systems to support the evolving academic model and strategic goals.
HORIZON 3: Visionary Transformation (5–10 Years)
Horizon 3 looks out the furthest. This horizon contains the boldest expression of what LuHi can become when our mission, our people, and our aspirations all shine at their brightest. Here, LuHi evolves into a truly life-preparatory school—one where learning is personal, relational, faith-centered, and shaped by real-world discovery. The school day looks different. The campus looks different. And the experience students receive is unmistakably LuHi.
Students begin exploring their interests in middle school, moving through thoughtfully designed pathways that help them uncover their gifts and follow their sense of calling. Mentors, community partners, internships, travel experiences, and global connections are integral to the learning journey. By this stage, the campus has evolved to support this vision: flexible learning environments, expanded residential life, and indoor, outdoor, and virtual spaces intentionally designed to foster collaboration, creativity, and spiritual formation.
At the same time, LuHi’s business model—and its place in the educational landscape—has transformed. We become a school known not only for warmth, character, and Christian community, but for academic distinction, innovation, and a global outlook. Families choose LuHi because it prepares students for life with purpose and confidence. International students choose LuHi because it offers rigorous learning rooted in Christian identity. And alumni, families, community partners, and other collaborators see LuHi as a place where they can actively contribute to education, mentoring, and experiences that shape students’ growth— creating strong, lasting connections while advancing the school’s mission.
