FIRST CHESTERFIELD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE MUSICAL CONCERT IS JUNE 7; CITY OF CHESTERFIELD TO CELEBRATE 23rd BIRTHDAY WITH FIREWORKS DISPLAY A FREE summer tradition continues this June as the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce once again presents its concert series in Faust County Park on Tuesday evenings. Each Tuesday night beginning June 7, Faust Park will come alive with concert goers, food, dancing and of course, the sounds of the best toe-tapping live music around! The concert series kicks off June 7 with the Bob Kuban Band, a local favorite, and features a special birthday celebration for the city of Chesterfield. Free birthday cake will be served and special prizes for children will be available. A fireworks display concludes this special birthday celebration following the concert at 9 p.m. All concerts and parking are free of charge. The park opens at 5:15 p.m. with pre-concert entertainment for children provided by the city of Chesterfield Parks Department and art projects courtesy of Chesterfield Arts. Affordable concessions are available. Concert goers can purchase soda, beer, wine, water, brats, hot dogs, Chick-fil-A sandwiches, popcorn, candy, snacks, Sheridan’s frozen custard and more at the Chamber’s concession stand. Seating is comfortable and informal so bring blankets and lawn chairs and put on your dancing shoes. Dr. Bobby Doscher, president and CEO of the Oklahaven Children’s Chiropractic Center of Oklahoma City, will be speaking on Logan’s Campus on Wednesday, June 8, 2011. She will be speaking in the Purser Center at 11:10 a.m. and talking about the Oklahaven Center and about autistic children. (Note: She has not spoken on the Logan campus since 2007.) Logan won Oklahaven’s “From the Heart” campaign in both 2006 and 2007, collecting more money than 11 other chiropractic colleges. Dr. Doscher will hold a question-and-an-answer session following her talk. All students and faculty are invited to hear this speech by one of our profession’s leaders in Pediatric Chiropractic. SUBJECTS NEEDED FOR RESEARCH STUDIES Danielle Spath, DC, MS, CCSP, assistant director of sports and rehabilitation, and Melissa Engelson, DC, a resident in the BIOFREEZE® Sports & Rehabilitation Center, are recruiting subjects for a research project entitled, “Effects of Lumbar ROM Exercise on Multifidus Cross Sectional Area of Asymptomatic and Symptomatic Low Backs.” Participants will take part in a six-week trial of Lumbar ROM exercise. Expected duration of the exams will be approximately one hour (initially) and 10 minutes (follow up). Participants with or without low back pain between the ages of 18-55 not currently receiving treatment may qualify for this study. Diagnostic imaging fellow, Eve E. Bonic, DC, DACBR, is recruiting subjects for a second research project entitled, “Ultrasonographic Evaluation of the Anterior Talofibular Ligament: Thickness of Injured Ligaments.” Subjects between the ages of 18-45 who have had ankle pain or an ankle sprain within the past year and who do not have a history of ankle fracture, ankle surgery or diabetes mellitus qualify for this study. The ATFL ultrasound scan will take less than 30 minutes. APPLIED KINESIOLOGY CLUB MEETS JUNE 7 The Applied Kinesiology Club will meet Tuesday, June 7 at 11:05 a.m. in room G40. Dr. Katharine Conable, associate professor in the Chiropractic Science division, will teach the Tuesday meetings of the A.K. club, beginning with the most basic basics of A.K. Through the trimester, videos of Dr. Goodheart telling his stories of the early discoveries in AK and patient management clinical pearls will be shown. Tuesday’s meeting affords an opportunity to practice these and more advanced AK skills with the help of club officers and experienced club members. All trimester students are welcome to these hands-on workshops. No previous experience required. Learn to evaluate muscle function with scientific precision and to use muscle responses as functional neurological feedback. Gain certainty on your ability to correct postural deviations and to identify subluxations. Learn simple manual methods of optimizing muscle function to prevent injury and help adjustments hold. LOGAN HEALTH CENTERS IN THE COMMUNITY June 9: Logan interns will provide complimentary postural screenings at the City of Florissant Employee Health Fair. June 11: Logan interns will participate in the first of three series of events with the St. Louis Cardinals’ Cardinals Care Redbird Rookies. Interns will offer complimentary postural screenings and offer information on the “Straighten Up, America” program, backpack safety and showcase a spine and other bones in the body. 2011 ANNUAL ST. LOUIS ARTHRITIS WALK IS A WINNER! On Friday, May 13, more than 700 people from all over the St. Louis area, including a team from Logan, raised more than $100,000 during the annual Arthritis Walk. Logan’s team, represented by over 150 students and faculty, raised nearly $2,000. The Arthritis Walk is the Arthritis Foundation’s signature fundraising event that takes place in hundreds of cities nationwide typically during Arthritis Awareness Month in May. The Arthritis Walk is designed to increase public awareness, educate people about the benefits of staying active and raise money to fight arthritis. This once-a-year opportunity helps improve the lives of the 50 million adults and
nearly 300,000 children living with arthritis in the U.S. By the year 2030, it is projected that the number of Americans with arthritis will surpass 67 million. In addition to causing pain, this serious and sometimes deadly disease costs the U.S. economy $128 billion each year. In addition to raising funds, the Arthritis Foundation is working to inform the public of the benefits of walking to ease joint pain, improve mobility and reduce fatigue associated with arthritis. Mr. Sachs, 83, meticulously planned and developed Chesterfield Village, a residential, commercial and cultural community that now encompasses more than 200 businesses, including Fortune 500 companies, and 260 homes.
