From the President's Desk Dear Alumni and Friends of the College: Logan College will enter the seco nd century of chiropractic having just completed a year of outgrowth and standing achievement in many areas. One of our notable areas of growth has been private g1v1ng, which reached its highest level ever this year. W e received $525,953.33 from 1,2 78 donors. Both of these figures are records in the nearly 60-year history of the College. On behalf of the students, faculty, staff, and administration of Logan College, I wish to express to each donor our deep appreciation for your support. Significant contributions came from a number of sources. Especially notable gifts included a $75,000 grant from the Foundation for the Advancement of Chiropractic Education, a $25,000 gift from Dr. Frederick Carrick, and a $1 0,000 gift from Dr. Pau I Cornelius. Additionally, our Alumni Association provided a very generous gift of $53,000, enabling us to complete the process of providing ergonomic seating and new carpeting in our classrooms. Within the past 18 months, we have retired a substantial amount of debt, espec ially on the Science, Research, and Ergonomics Center. Additionall y, a commerc ial loan totaling $596,000, whi ch was secured by a large portion of our campus, has been completely retired. The Missouri HEFA bond is still outstanding, and we are making strides in paying that debt. Thi s issue of the Tower is ded icated to the many alumni and friend s of Logan College who have provided finan cia l support during the 1993- 1994 fiscal year, whi ch ended August 31. These contributors are listed on pages 6-15 of this magazine. Again, w e thank you for your dedication to Logan College. Your support of the College and your confidence in its future are inspi ring to all of us. We look forward to celebrating the centennial of our profession and the sixtieth anniversary of Logan College with you next year. Best regards,

Opportunities for Giving Dear Friend: I would like to add my thanks to those expressed by Dr. Goodman, for your support of Logan College. As a result of your generosity, the College received $525,953 in contributions during the past fiscal year. Our genuine thanks! Recently, the fund-raising year at Logan College was changed to mirror the College's fiscal year. This change, from a calendar-year basis to a time frame extending from September 1 through August 31, allows this report and Honor Roll of Donors to reflect more accurately the events that took place during the College's academic year. Nationwide, personal giving to all non-profit institutions increased by 3.4 percent. Total fiscal-year giving to higher education rose by 4.7 percent over the preceding year. Contributions to Logan College rose by 196 percent over the past year - a tremendous accomplishment. During the past fiscal year, the College's endowment increased by over $200,000. This was the largest increase in any one year during our history. The $75,000 gift from the Foundation for the Advancement of Chiropractic Education gave us the challenge to raise over $125,000, restricted to our endowment. As the endowment grows, so does the financial stability of the institution . We are truly indebted to the Foundation and its president, Dr. William Harris, for their trust in our College. Each year, Logan College looks to its supporters to provide the extra financial resources needed to fulfill its missions: teaching, research, and service to the community. Classroom Renovation The completion this year of the installati on of ergonomically designed seating in all Logan classrooms was an important milestone in the ongoing process of updating the College's facilities. Future stages of the classroom renovation process will include replacement of the air handling systems in some classrooms, and conversion of three classrooms near the gymnasium into two larger classrooms.
Learning Resources Center The Logan Learning Resources Center consists of the library, the media room, and the Media Production (audio-visual) Center. Each month, in addition to serving Logan students and faculty members, the Learning Resources Center provides services to an average of 100 practicing doctors. Learning Resources Center personnel provide extensive assistance with literature searches and use of other information resources . Gifts restricted to the Learning Resources Center can be specified to fund books, journal subscriptions, equipment, or other specific needs.
The Hugh B. Logan Society The Hugh B. Logan Society, established in 1988, is an organization of alumni and friends of the College who have dedicated themselves to helping Logan College create a large endowment. The College endowment consists of principal funds, which normally cannot be spent. Interest generated by the principal allows the College to expand its financial base.
Life Insurance Endowment The Life Insurance Program was established in order to allow a donor to make a sizable gift to Logan College at a comparatively low cost. Individuals purchase life insurance policies which are owned by and payable to Logan College.
Scholarships Many Logan students qualify to receive financial assistance, and the College must continue to expand its ability to help students finance educational expenses. Scholarships also provide opportunities to reward students for academic excellence and service to the Logan community.
Deferred Giving Procedures for utilizing wills and trusts to make donations to the College will be updated during the coming year. Contact the Office of Institutional Advancement for ¡additional information.

A Galen Ill microscope was funded by the Logan Alumni Association STAR program this year (see page 15). The binocular microscope allows the viewer to study a slide with both eyes. A Hitachi color camera attached to the microscope photographs the image on the slide, which is transmitted to the television monitor (above) via a coax cable. Using the microscope is hematology Teaching Assistant Frank Hubbard. Dr. Robert Kuhn is the instructor for the class.

The Logan Alumni Association STAR Program The Logan Alumni Association Send To Alumni Regularly program was initiated in 1977 by Jon Sunderlage, DC, then-President of the Association. The program is designed to allow alumni to make scheduled contributions according to individual means. A donor's individual monthly contribution may be as little as five dollars, or as much as $200. Each year, the Association Board of Directors designates some money from the STAR fund for the STAR Scholarship program, which provides several scholarships each year. Additionally, all STAR donors are invited to the program 's annual business meeting, held each June during the Logan Homecoming. During the business meeting, the donors vote on allo-
cations from the STAR fund to meet requests submitted by various departments of the College. Each year, several pieces of highly specialized equipment and other useful items receive funding, enhancing many aspects of Logan 's educational process and student service operations. As the Summer issue of the Tower reported, this year the STAR donors allocated a total of $28,874 to the STAR Scholarship program and several departments of the College. Logan Cyclists Recognized for Fund-Raising for American Diabetes Association

A group of cyclists representing Logan Coll ege won the " Team Challenge" fo r securing the greatest amount of pledges at the Ameri can Diabetes Association , Missouri Affiliate's Tour de Cure bike-a-than. The bike-a-than took place in June, with riders following routes through Missouri and Illinois river count ry. The Logan team members were recognized at a pizza party hosted by the ADA and held on the Logan campus on Sept. 22. The Logan team was led by Dr. Scott Hain z, Director of Logan 's Yorksh ire Health Center in Webster Groves. Accepting the ADA award with Dr. Hain z w ere his fellow team members : August graduate Dr. Thomas Ashley; Dr. Barbara Eaton, cl ini cia n at the on-campus Montgomery Health Center; Dr. Timothy Sturmer (8/90) of C hesterfield; Rosi Schmaltz, a secretary at M ontgomery H ea lth Center; Schmaltz's fiance, Aaron Fenster, and Robert Josef, Trimester 9. The Logan team raised $2,415, with the cyc lists completing routes of varying lengths (25, 50, and 100-mile
routes were available). Dr. Ashley secured $1 ,600 in pledges to the ADA, receiving the second pri ze for individual pledge totals. For hi s efforts, he received a 1994 Bianchi Osprey road bike. Presenting the team's award at the recognition party was Sandie Wortham, a Tour de Cure planning committee member, who said, " We are
very thankful for the great effort put forth by Logan College in helping us raise funds for diabetes research ." In addition to the Logan cycl ists, 22 Logan Health Center interns provided sports therapy at the Tour de Cure rest stops located along each route. The volunteer therapy effort was organized by Logan students Amy Jenkins and Luke Staudenmaier. The College received recognition in the event's promotional materials, and in loca l newspapers and cyc ling pub I ications, as an official sponsor of the Tour de Cure.
Dr. Goodman Lectures at Hospital Logan President Dr. George A. Goodman recently discussed chiropractic education during a case presentation conference at Deaconess M ed ical Center - Central Campus in St. Louis. The conference was attended by Deaconess residents and a number of students from the Saint Loui s U nivers ity School of M edic ine. Joining Dr. Goodman as a chiropractic presenter, Dr. Mark Howell, an August 1983 Logan grad uate, spoke on the principles and practice of chiropractic. Dr. Howell's brother, Dr. David Howell, also spoke on the
panel. A medical doctor who completed a residen cy in fam il y practi ce at D eaconess Centra l, Dr. Dav id Howell discussed interdi sc iplinary relations between medical and ch iropractic providers. The Ors. Howell practice in the same fac ility in the St. Loui s suburb of Florissant. Dr. Goodman said the presentation was the fi rst of its kind at Deaconess Medical Center --Central Campus, and noted that the information presented was very w ell-received by the attendees.

Condolences to . The family of Harold T. Maher, DC (6/34), Missouri Chiropractic College, of St. Louis, who died on September 30. Dr. Maher entered chiropractic practice with his cousin, Thomas Maher, DC, the first li censed chiropractor in Missouri, and later had his own practice. He practiced chiropractic for 60 years, retiring earlier this year. Dr. Maher helped design and produce the Slumber Bed Board, and invented the Dr. H .T. Maher Professional Mattress in 1950. He

The family of Pat Morrone, DC (4/90), who lost his life in an acci dent while riding a moped in Italy on October 13. Dr. Morrone had practiced in Arizona following his graduation from Logan, and had travel led to Italy, where he had relatives, to investigate practice possibilities.
Dr. Cornelius Offers to Match $1 0,000 Donation Dr. Paul Cornelius, the 1939 Logan graduate who donated $10,000 to last yea r's fund-raising challenge campaign (see page 3), has offered to match any $10,000 singular gift to the College this year. The money con tributed by Dr. Cornelius and the respond ing donor will be included in this year's challenge campa ign fund. Last year's campaign raised $127,337, in response to a challenge from the Foundation fo r the Advancement of Ch iropractic Education of Alpharetta, Ga. The FACE had offered a $75,000 grant to th e College, if Logan could raise an equal amount of money within a designated period. Thi s year, as the Summer issue of the Tower announced, FACE has offered the College a $60,000 grant to th e College if Logan raises $300,000 by July 31, 1995. Last year's chall enge required th at all funds raised by Logan, and the grant from FACE, be added to the College endowment fund. In contrast, this year's campaign will be unrestri cted. The money raised can be used by Logan College for any purpose.

Logan Radiology Department Receives Gift of AEC Equipment The Logan Radiology Department has received AEC (a utomatic exposure control) equipment for one x-ray unit as a gift from an anonymous donor. The donation was announced by Dr. Norman W. Kettner, Chairperson of the Radiology Department. "We were very grateful to receive this generous gift," said Dr. Kettner. "This equipment represents the most advanced imaging technology." Dr. Gary Guebert, Assistant Professor of Clinical Science and a Radiology Department faculty member, arranged the donation. The AEC device is a product of the Bennett Xray Corporation of Copaigue, N .Y., and has been set up in the Logan Radiology Department in the oncampus Montgomery Health Center. The automatic exposure control mechanism includes a sensor plate which is inserted in front of the x-ray film. As x-rays pass through the patient and the sensor plate on their way to the film, the plate measures the number of x-rays that have reached it. A shut-off mechanism connected to the sensor plate turns off the x-ray machine, once the minimum number of x-rays necessary to produce a good radiograph of the patient have passed through the sensor plate to the film .

To take x-rays using conventional equipment, the doctor or technician must calculate the correct setting for the x-ray machine, based on the size of the region of the patient's body that is to be radiographed. If calculations of the necessary x-ray force and number are slightly incorrect and a clear x-ray is not produced, the x-rays must be re-taken, increasing the patient's exposure to radiation.
Students Receive Recognition from NCMIC Two Logan students, Mark Stine and Shawn Dill , have received 1994 Outstanding Service awards from the National Chiropractic Mutual Insurance Company. The Des Moines, la.based insurer recognized chapter and national leaders of the Student American Chiropractic Association and the Student International Chiropractors Association for their leadership and dedication to the chiropractic profession.
Stine, the 1993-1994 President of the Logan chapter of Student ACA, received his award during the 1994 ACA convention, which took place in Nashville, Tenn. in July. Stine is a Trimester 6 student. Dill, a Trimester 7 student and 1993-1994 President of the Logan chapter of Student ICA, received his award during the 1994 ICA convention. The ICA convention was in Palm Springs, Calif., September 28 - Oct. 2.
" From an educational standpoint, it is especially exciting th at Logan students will learn to use this eq uipment," said Dr. Guebert. Dr. Todd Ryan, a Logan Radiology Department resident, agrees that access to the automatic exposure control device wi II benefit students in radiology classes, as well as clinical interns and patients of the Logan Health Center. " The convenience of this device allows interns to save time while focusing on achieving correct positioning, rather than worrying about measuring and calculating x-ray settings," said Dr. Ryan . "We will still be teaching students to measure and calculate in classes, because many offices will not have this equipment when current students first begin practicing," Dr. Ryan added. "Automatic exposure control is becoming increasingly common in hospitals, though, and I wouldn't be surprised if its use is mandated at some point, because it minimizes the patient's exposure so effectively."

Logan Golfers, Volleyball Players, Basketball Players Take Medals at '94 Chiropractic Games
Logan volleyball players took one of three silver medals for the College at the 1994 Chiropractic Games. Spirited chiropractic students from the U .S. and Canada, including about 75 Logan students, gathered at Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Tex. for this year's Chiropra ctic Games. The Games were held Friday, Sept. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 1, on the Parker campus and at nearby facilities. Each co llege could fi eld up to two
teams in each sport, with some sports requiring all-male or all-fema le teams, and others specifying coeducational teams. Golf, volleyball, and basketbal I teams representing Logan College all took silver medals in their events. The 1994 Games were the first held away from the Logan campus. M embers of the Logan chapter of
Logan Representatives Attend Centennial Kickoff Six representatives of Logan College were among the participants in the Chiropractic Centennial Foundation's ki ckoff celebration, held Sept. 16 -18 in D avenport, la. The celebration weekend began with a meeting of the Association of Chiropractic Colleges on Friday, Sept. 16. Logan President Dr. George A. Goodman attended the ACC meeting. Dr. Allen Parry, Dean of Postgraduate Education and Logan 's liaison to the CCF, attended a CCF meeting for institutional representatives. The fo llowi ng day, the CCF held co nstituency meetings, with Logan representatives participating in sessions with other chiropractic educational representatives. Joining Ors. Goodman and Parry for these meetings were: Dr. William Ramsey, Vice President of Academic Affairs; Sharon Kehrer, Vice President of Administrative Affairs; Dr. Ronald Grant, Director of Clinica l Servi ces, and Donald Mclain, D irector of Institutional Advancement.
Delta Sigma Chi, national professional chiropractic fraternity, initiated the Chiropractic Games in 1992, providing an opportunity for chiropractic students from across the U.S. and Canada to meet and enjoy athletic competition together. Logan Delta Sigma Chi members coordinated the Games, with Logan College as the host campus in 1992 and 1993. Logan golfers Mike Murphy, Todd Gill, Matt Johnson, and Brian Johnston completed the 1994 Games golf tournament at 10 under par, as did a team representing Parker College. The two teams picked a number. Parker had the low score for the hole corresponding to the number. Thus, the Parker team won the gold medal and Logan the silver. Logan students Eric Clements, Steve Noseworthy, jenny Pelisek, Lisa Nash, Ingrid Neufeld, Ray Hour, and John Streblow finished the volleyba ll tournament at the Games with a 4-1 record, losing to National College of Chiropracti c of Lombard, Ill. in the finals. Logan basketball players Scott Dorrity, Brandon Fites, Brian Grindstaff, Gregg Moskovitz, Mike Sharp, Paul Dixon, Brian Olson, and Keith Cloe finished with a 4-2 record overall. They lost to a team representing Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, la. in the finals. Teams representing Logan College also competed in flag football, soccer, and softball events at this year's Games. The College did not field a team for a new event this yea r, a SK run . However, Logan student Matt Johnson competed in the run individuall y, finishing in fourth place. In addition to Logan, Parker, Palmer, and National, four other co lleges were represented at the tournament. They were: Cleveland Chi ropractic College (Kan sas City, Mo.); Canad ian M emorial Chiropractic College (Toronto, Ontario); Northwestern College of Chiropractic (B loomington, Minn .), and Texas Chiropractic College (Pasadena, Tex.).

New Student Enrollment Dean, Health Centers Administrator Join College Melvin "Bucky" Reynolds has joined the College as Dean of Student Enrollment. Reynolds' appointment was announced by Dr. William L. Ramsey, Vice President of Academic Affairs. of The position Dean of Student Enrollment is a revised one at Logan. It combines the responsibilities of a dean of admissions with retention , marketMelvin 1Bucky" Reynolds ing, information, and management duties. Dr. Donald Christy, formerly Dean of Admissions and Student Services, will now devote all of his non-teaching time to serving as Dean of Students. Reynolds previously served as Director of Enrollment Management at Life College of Chiropractic in Marietta, Ga. He has 17 years of teaching experience in higher education, and 24 years of experience in college admissions. In addition to working in admissions at Life College, Reynolds was an admissions officer at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tenn ., and at Oglethorpe University near Atlanta. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Lynchburg College in Virginia, and a Master of Arts degree, also in psychology, from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Tex. Robert M. Smith has been appointed Health Centers Administrator for Logan College. Smith's appointment was announced by Logan President Dr. George A. Goodman . Smith, who began his duties in August, is responsible for all Logan Health Center functions, including administrative and financial management of the four Logan Health Centers and the College's three clinics affiliated with

the Salvation Army and other facilities serving lowincome individuals. Smith spent 10 years working as a training manager and communications supervisor in the U.S. Navy. He was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal for managing a complex system overhaul. For the past three years, Smith was a system cons ultant with Alcon Systems in St. Louis. Alcon is a computer company that specializes in financial management for doctors' offices. With Alcon, Smith gained extensive experience in appraising medical administrative needs. Smith received a Bachelor of Science degree in Telecommunications Management from City University in Bellevue, Washington. Dr. Ronald Grant was given the title Chief of Staff of the Logan Health Centers. He directs intern education and delivery of patient care, and supervises Health Center clinicians.

Physical Plant Completes Projects in Classrooms, Library; Helps SOC Relocate Computer Center Under the leadership of Plant Superintendent Bob Brueggemann, the Logan Physical Plant Department completed several interior improvements during the trimester break, which began August 8. When students and faculty members returned to classes in September, they found that installation of the new carpeting in rooms G-102 and G-105 had been completed . The classroom work completed the expenditure of the gift of $53,000 to Logan by the College's Alumni Association earlier this year. The process of providing ergonomically designed seating for all Logan classrooms was completed as a result of the donation, with new seats funded by the Alumni Association gift installed in G-102 and G-105. During the August break, the Physical Plant workers also removed old carpeting from the reading room in the Logan Learning Resources Center. New carpeting is now being installed . Physical Plant workers also assisted with the September move of the Student Computer Center to the combined rooms G-44 and G-45, which had been carpeted and painted during the break. The Computer Center is operated by the Logan Student Doctors Council. SOC President Don

The SOC recently purchased three new color monitors to replace the old monochrome monitors on three IBM computers in the Center. SOC also purchased new computers and outfitted the entire Center with new computer work stations and ergonomically designed chairs. The Center now
has a total of 14 computers, an d p lanning is underway for additi onal new equipment purchases. The SOC, which has an ann ual budget of about $50,000, expects to spend about $10,000 this year on renovations to the Computer Center and purchases of equipment and furniture. The SOC also has moved its office to Room 130, the old Computer Center location .
SFAC Provides Chiropractic Information at St. Louis-Area Events In recent months, the Logan Students for the Advancement of Chiropractic have provided informational and/or postural screening services at numerous local events, including a health fair at AT&T regional headquarters in St. Louis County; Veterans Opportunity Day at St. Louis Community College at
Florissant Valley, and a health fair at Webster University in the St. Louis suburb of Webster Groves. For postural screenings, Logan students utilize the College's SAM (Spinal Analysis Machine). Seven Logan students provided postural screenings at a health fair of the national convention of Delta
Sigma Theta sorority, held in St. Louis during the summer. Logan's participation in the convention was coordinated by Dr. Doris Bell, Director of Multi-Cultural Affairs. More than 7,000 delegates attended the convention, which took place at the Cervantes Convention Center at America's Center in downtown St. Louis.

Logan Celebrates Cultures of the World at International Day On Oct. 24, the Logan College gymnasium was filled with students enjoying the sights, sounds, and tastes of cultures throughout the world, as the College celebrated its annual International Day. Sponsored by the Logan Student Multi-Cultural Associ~tion , the International Day program included African dance and belly dancing performances, and a martial arts demonstration. Students from outside the U.S., many dressed in colorful ethnic costumes, prepared and served favorite foods from their countries. About ten percent of Logan students are from outside the U.S., many from Canada. Also represented in the Logan student body are Bulgaria, East Afri ca, Iran, Israel, Malaysia, Spain, Switzerland, and Trinidad. The banner held by the group pictured on the cover of this magazine was given to Logan faculty member Dr. Larry Hutti, when he taught the_ Logan System of Body Mechanics in Japan several years ago. The banner l ists the technique and Dr. Hutti's name.
Dr. Naughton Co-Chairs Homeless Veterans Stand Down Dr. Kathleen Naughton, Assistant Director of Clinical Education and Assessment, served as co-chairperson of the 3rd Annual Homeless Veterans Stand Down Program for St. Louisarea veterans. Stand down is a military term indicating an opportunity for soldiers to leave the field of combat and rest in a secure area. This year's Stand Down program took pl ace Sept. 24, at the U.S. Veterans John Cochran Administration Hospital in Mid-Town St. Louis. Dr. Naughton was in charge of the medica l services unit of the 1992 and 1993 Stand Down programs. This year, as they have done in past years, Logan College interns and faculty members provided physical examinations and chiropractic adjustments at the Stand Down program. Supervising the nine parti c ipating Logan interns this year were Ors. Kelly Brinkman and John Ki ernan of the Logan Faculty. The Logan representatives at this year's Stand Down
provided chiropractic care to more than 100 of the 30 participating veterans. In addition to a variety of health care services, including chiropractic, the 1994 Stand Down program made available educational, employment, and mental health co unseling. Loca l judges and attorneys provided court services for those who had incurred warrants for vagrancy or other misdemeanors, so that the veterans' records could be expunged. Housing information was available; barbers provided services, and donated c lothing was given to the veterans. Additionally, free voice-mail boxes w ere offered to all of the veterans, enabling them to receive messages from service providers concerning employment, health care, and housing opportunities. On Sept. 25, the St. Lo uis PostDispatch printed a photograph of Logan intern Gary Rovin, a veteran, adjusting one of the homeless veterans served by the program.
Backsafer Cycle Introduced Dr. Elliott Grusky (1/ 77) of Miami, Fla. often sympathized with the frustration of chronic low back pain sufferers who found it difficult to exercise. In 1991, he had an idea: why not develop an ergonomically designed exercise cycle, to minimize stress on the lower back, neck, and pelvis? Three years and 14 prototypes later, Dr. Grusky unveiled the Backsafer cycle at the Florida Chiropractic Association convention, held in October in Orlando, Fla. The development of the Backsafer was a joint effort by Dr. Grusky and the Logan Ergonomics Center. The cycle was designed by Dr. Darian Smith (12/92) of Apex, N .C. Dr. Smith, who enrolled at Logan with a master's degree in ergonomics, worked in the Ergonomics Center as a student, and for several months following his graduation. Dr. Patrick Venditti, formerly Director of the Logan Ergonomics Center, helped Dr. Smith design th e Backsafer. Dr. Grusky tested the prototypes and recommended design improvements. The Backsafer ca n be used on the road, or converted to a stationary cycle using a device which lifts and immobili zes the back wheel. Elevated hand le bars permit riding without flexion of the cervical spine, and the cycle's upright riding position helps reduce stress on the lumbar spine. An over-si zed, elongated seat extends upward to form an angled back rest. The rider sits back against the back rest, with legs extending out under the handle bars, where the pedal boom is positioned above the front wheel. The seat, pedal boom, and handle bars are adjustable. Dr. Grusky says the Backsafer is safer for the low back and 60 percent more efficient at exercising the quadriceps muscles than conventional bicycles. IN THE NEWS Norman W. Kettner, DC, DACBR, FICC, and Gary M. Guebert, DC, DACBR, Assistant Professor of Clinical Science and a member of Logan 's Radiology Department, spoke at the 1 994 co nference of the American Chiropractic Co llege of Radiology. Dr. Kettner is Past President of the ACCR. The conference was in Las Vegas, Oct. 15 and 16, and was held in conjunction with the 1994 conference of the Nevada State Chiropractic Association . Foot Levelers, Inc. of Roanoke, Virginia co-sponsored the conference. Dr. Kettner's lecture was "A Complete Imaging Evaluation of the Shoulder Joint." Dr. Guebert joined Othel Pirtle, MS, DC, in presenting "Quality Control in Producing Excellent Chiropractic Radiographs ." Kathleen Naughton, DC , CCSP, Assistant Director of Clinical Education and Assessment, participated in a community forum on health care needs on Oct. 19. The forum, sponsored by St. John's Mercy M edical Center, was held at the Medical Center in W est St. Louis Cou nty. Dr. Naughton was invited to participate in the forum because she
serves as Board Vice President of the Health Care for the Homeless Coalition of Greater St. Louis. She joined about 100 other health care professionals, and community representatives, in discussions of community health care needs. Dr. Naughton also recentl y cochaired the 3rd Annual Homeless Veterans Stand Down Program (see p. 23), and is coordinating Logan's annual fund -raising activities to provide Christmas gifts of new, warm clothing for homeless adults. The drive will culminate with the distribution of gifts to about 300 homeless men and women on Christmas Day. Anyone interested in contributing to the program should contact Dr. Naughton at the College. D. Robert Kuhn, DC, DACBR, Assistant Professor of Clin ical and Chiropractic Sciences, travelled to Greeley, Colo. in October to participate in the writing of the 1995 national chiropractic board exams. Dr. Kuhn serves on the test rating committee of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners. He helped write questions for the chiropractic philosophy portion
of Part II of the 1995 national boards. Robert Lang, DC, an August 1994 Logan graduate, has joined the College faculty as an instructor in the Chiropractic Science Division and the Logan College Hea lth Centers. Dr. Lang received the Bachelor of Science in Human Biology degree while studying at Logan, and completed pre-chiropractic studies at New College of California and at the Moorpark College campus of Ventura County Community College in Cal iforni a. While studying at Logan College, Dr. Lang served as President of the Logan Student Doctors Council and the Logan chapter of the Student American Chiropractic Association. He received the Co llege's Health Center Achievement Award upon graduating from Logan. Janis Hartman, DC, an April 1993 Logan graduate, also has joined the Logan faculty. Dr. Hartman is a Logan Health Center instructor. She completed pre-chiropractic studies at St. Louis Community College at Meramec. Ors. Lang and Hartman also have private practices in the St. Louis area.
