We are pleased to present FrAmEd: John Hall and Ron Moppett at Loch Gallery in Toronto. John Hall and Ron Moppett have each sustained long and successful careers, both holding important places in the history of Canadian visual art.
Their friendship and artistic dialogue began in the mid-1960s when they were classmates at the Alberta College of Art, and blossomed into a series of collaborations in the 1970s—including the ground-breaking Rose Museum exhibition.
Now, more than fifty years later the pair are back at it with FrAmEd—a new series of trompe l’oeil artworks depicting paintings in frames. A continuation of Hall’s own Framed series, this collaboration has both artists working on the same canvas—one paints a trompe l’oeil frame while the other paints the picture within it. The result is a playful yet technically masterful body of work that blurs boundaries between image and object, between the individual artist and a shared creation.
