Sunday 14th May sees the 5th Love Leah bikeride The Love Leah bike ride is from Salford Royal Manchester to The Walton Centre in Liverpool. Stopping at The Red Lion as a half way point. This year it will be on Sunday 14th May 2017 with an 11am start. (Start meeting from 10am). This will be the 5th event so fingers crossed it will be as amazing as the others which is all down to the people who help, support and take part. These events alone have raised over £10,000 and in total Leah's legacy has donated well over £60,000. There will have similar support to last year with the motorbike out riders to keep everyone as safe as possible So who's up for the fun 28 mile bike ride? Please contact Mandy, Leah’s Mum, on 07969643007 if you want to join the ride. Mandy said “Leah’s friends and family started the Love Leah appeal. Leah died Aug 5th 2012 following a road traffic accident. We are very much behind organ donation, she saved 3 lives with her organs . Also we really encourage blood donation as she had 6 transfusions and gave blood herself.” The home from home appeal is where the money from Love Leah is going which provides relatives with accommodation while their loved ones receive treatment in the centre. If you can’t join in you could wave them along the way and drop a donation over at Just Giving. The Last years bike ride team team name is LoveLeahH2H2017

Local Business Focus. This year Golborne based Little Angels are celebrating 10 years in business. We popped in to ask Nicki and Juliette a few questions So Little Angels celebrate 10 years this year. Why did you choose a Nursery and why Golborne? N&J: We were both part of a management team at another Nursery. We had the opportunity to tender for the children's centre Nursery so we went for it. I (Nicki) lived local and it just seemed right What have you found most challenging about running your own business? N&J: Staffing mainly. Getting the right ones. The day to day management and also moving from a small to large business Anything you would have done differently? N&J: No nothing. We love it even 10 years on! What is the one piece of advice you would give a parent when choosing a Nursery? N&J: Go with your gut instinct and ask about staff turnover. Ask friends who have got children. Look around as many as you can What do you love most about your job? N&J: Seeing the children progress. Watching milestones, it’s very rewarding. Positive feedback from parents Is always lovely. But mostly the daily cuddles! What did you want to be when you were ‘growing up’? N: I’ve always wanted to look after children J: Own my own business or a midwife

Describe a ‘typical’ family day out… N: Walking the dog at Haigh Hall or Penny Flash. (even though it’s a challenge to get my 16 year old son up! J: When the children get out of bed we love going to our caravan in the lakes and for walks there If you were stranded on a desert island what three items would you take with you? N: My phone, Juliette (as she’s glaring at me and making me feel under pressure) and concealer J: Toothbrush, Suncream and a bottle of prosecco If you could meet anyone who would it be and why? N: Patrick Dempsey. Because he’s very attractive J: Joanna Lumley. She’s inspirational, interesting and funny As a child what was your favourite family day out? N: Butlins in Skegness J: Abersoch camping Which if your business achievements are you proudest of? N&J: Having to expand because we were in such demand. Hearing from parents that we were recommended

Little Angels operate an open door policy. Pop in for a look around or give them a call on 01942 777616 or 01942 722878 of you have any questions.

New Breastfeeding Support Group Gets Off To A Flying Start Volunteers from charity Breastfeeding Together have set up a new support group to help breastfeeding mums in the Golborne/Lowton area. The group has been open for two weeks but has already seen good attendance levels. Breastfeeding Together Volunteers Francesca Lowe and Laura Thompson who set up the group. The group is located at Treetops Play and Party Cafe in Golborne and is open to breastfeeding mums looking for a way to connect with other parents, and antenatal mums seeking information. Breastfeeding Together is a not for profit organisation which was set up in 2014 by experienced Breastfeeding Peer Supporters with many years of experience of supporting mothers both in the antenatal and postnatal period. In November 2015, Breastfeeding Together became a Registered Charity no. 1164333. The charity also signs up local businesses and organisations to its Breastfeeding Friendly Award scheme, which helps Breastfeeding mothers feel more confident about breastfeeding in public. Treetops signed up to the scheme in February, welcoming any mum who wishes to breastfeed in the play centre. Breastfeeding Together Project Manager, Elinor Halliwell said: “Breastfeeding can be really tough in the early days, and new mums can find it very difficult without a good support base. Groups like this are key to helping mums connect and share experiences, while feeling supported and giving them the confidence to feed in public.”. “If you’re a breastfeeding mum, we’d love to meet you at our new group at Treetops, as well as any of our other groups across the Wigan borough.” Breastfeeding rates across the UK are considerably lower than in other areas of the world Around 80% of mums start out breastfeeding at birth but Just 1 in 200 women are still breastfeeding their children after they reach their first birthday. The World Health Organization (WHO) babies are fed exclusively breast milk for six months, then say breastfeeding should form part of the baby’s diet up to two years and beyond. Breastfeeding Together’s support group at Treetops runs every Tuesday in term time from 12-2pm. It is free for mums with babies under 1, and £2.75 for older children who wish to use the play equipment. This is a free drop in group and you only pay for extra children if they would like to play. Contact Breastfeeding Together on 01942 777903 for further information on this and all other Breastfeeding support groups.
