Golborne Parkside Sports and Community Club opened their doors to the newly refurbished Intex Bar. The volunteers have worked around the clock to get the bar ready for its Official Opening night which was attended by Mayor of Wigan Yvonne Klieve , local councillors and the team that have helped them achieve this fabulous new bar. Lowton WI held their annual AGM in October. It was our President Lin Hayes last meeting in office. After 9 years as President Lin felt it was time to take a well earned rest and put her feet up! Although Lin will remain involved on the committee. Members thanked Lin for all the hard work she has done over the years, It has been greatly appreciated by all. Lin has been leading the organisation of events within the WI many of which were fundraising for several local charities. Members welcomed in our new President Val Barrow who was voted in by our members to take the WI forward for the next 12 months. We wish Val luck in her new role. The meeting continued with a auction and all money raised will be in aid of the North West Air Ambulance. At our November meeting, one of our members Kath Graham will be presenting ‘The story of Charlotte Blears of Leigh’. This will be a nice bit of local history to look forward to. Lowton WI meet on the first Thursday of the month at 7.15pm at Lowton Social Club on Newton Road, Lowton. For anyone thinking about joining the WI and would like to arrange a visit, please phone Val Barrow on 07419335330. All visitors are made very welcome.

Lowton Community Darts - who play at the newly reopened Church Inn Newton Road Lowton, approached Mr James Grundy MP for help to secure Council Brighter Borough funding for new equipment for local people to use. Lowton East Conservative Councillors were able to secure that funding. The funding has helped Luke Davies and the team to purchase a state of the LCD Scolia darts system. Play with your friends locally or online against people around the world. The Scolia Master Caller takes care of all the score keeping with instant audio feedback.
