Welcome to the August Issue of Local Living Wow July was a hot one! I was sat with a wet towel over my head whilst putting the magazine together. Checkout our local cover star Mike from “Quantum”, he provides electrical services. His details are on the back cover. We have two of the new businesses that are now part of “The Wellness Hub” advertising with us on page 3: Kathryn has already started and Sarah opens her doors on the 30th August. Ashton Upholstery have kept you all cool with their lovely airconditioned premises, go and have a look, they are getting some awesome reviews. Checkout our plea for help for “Gemstone Cheer & Dance”—they need your support to get their winning team to Florida. (page 8) So much more to tell you but not enough space! So sit down with a brew and have a read. We love to feature community photos of everything that’s going on in the community and we can’t wait to see yours!

LOWTON WI Our July meeting was a little different as one of our members held an auction with proceeds to go to Wigan & Leigh Women's refuge. Marie had done a sterling job collecting pre loved items as well as some new ones to pass on to someone else to get pleasure from. Marie had taken part in a car boot sale as well as organising the auction. Over £300 was raised in total for such a good local cause. We would like to Thank Marie for her hard work in making the evening so successful and also a big thanks to everyone who contributed.
Some of our members from Lowton WI went for a very enjoyable trip out to the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. Twenty ladies set out on a lovely sunny morning, thankfully it did not get too hot for a few hours looking around the beautiful gardens and the many memorials at the Arboretum. At our next meeting which is Thursday 4th August, we look forward to welcoming, Ian Dale whose talk is titled “A Policeman’s Lot.” Lowton WI hold meetings on the first Thursday of the month at 7.15pm at Lowton Social Club on Newton Road. If anyone is interested in joining us, please phone Val Barrow on 07419335330 for details.
