Sundays are for family. I was fortunate enough last Sunday to meet the newborn additions to the Vicelja family. My nephew and his wife gave birth to a baby girl in March, the first grandchild for my oldest brother and his wife. I watched my wife and daughter take turns holding the infant, each filled with such joy at the sight of the beautiful new child. A baby represents such innocence, and the infinite possibilities that lie ahead for their new life.
We left Huntington Beach and continued on to Hermosa Beach to meet my niece’s baby boy, born on Easter Sunday. These first cousins will be amazingly close as they grow up together. I marveled at the little toes and fingers, the tiny nose, and the overall miracle of life. Both babies won the lottery — born into wonderful sets of parents and a family that is going to love them endlessly. I was most touched by a recent photo shared in the family text, a picture of my brother holding his first two grandchildren. The expression of joy on his face I had never seen before. He replied to my text, simply, “I am blessed!”

Orange County–based outdoor lighting designer and licensed C7 low-voltage electrician Laura Bradburn approaches each project with the belief that lighting sets the tone for how a space functions after dark. Collaborating with builders and landscape designers, she creates lighting plans that allow homeowners to enjoy their outdoor spaces with confidence and comfort in the evening hours.
Bradburn evaluates every project through three key priorities: safety, usability and visual appeal. Proper illumination of walkways, steps and pool areas helps reduce
hazards, while perimeter lighting contributes to a greater sense of security. Task lighting ensures outdoor kitchens, dining areas and gathering spaces remain functional at night. The ambiance strikes a balance between upscale and comfortably stylish, with a well-appointed bar anchoring the space and a large wraparound patio perfect for lively conversation, great wine and delicious fare. Owner Kim Norris curated the wine list with intention, offering enough variety for seasoned enthusiasts while still appealing to those looking to explore. The selection of Old World wines stands out, featuring hard-to-find varietals. Food is often where wine bars fall short, but not at Barnoa. The menu is thoughtfully designed to pair naturally with the wine. Each dish feels deliberate, well-executed and portioned for sharing. For starters, the Nutty Goat is a must—goat cheese coated in roasted peanuts, drizzled with chipotle brown sugar sauce and served with sliced French baguette. The Burrata Crostini is crisp and flavorful, topped with diced tomato, fresh basil, balsamic glaze and pesto. The Blackened Salmon Tacos arrive as a trio, layered with chipotle aioli, tangy slaw, pickled red onions and cilantro. Additional offerings include the Stuffed Acorn Squash, Pesto Penne Pasta, Barnoa Chicken Sandwich, Wagyu Beef Burger and Flat Iron Steak.
Join the Wine Club to receive two hand-selected wines each quarter, with the option of two reds or a red and a white. Happy hour runs Wednesday–Saturday from 3–5 p.m. and all day Sunday.
