As August begins, after surviving weeks of a muggy weather front from Mexico, we are still smack-dab in the middle of summer. That’s unfortunately not the case for our students, who have scorching classrooms awaiting their return in the next few weeks.
As I watch my kids mature into a tremendous young man and a beautiful young lady, I have a different outlook on their early return to school. As they earn more independence, a bittersweet shift has taken place and our fleeting summer moments become so precious. I think I was partially scarred by the memories of the multiple summers when keeping up with my young kids was thoroughly exhausting. Back then I secretly counted down the days when I could return them to the routine of their school day. This summer, my kids and I seem to only share brief interludes together before they set plans and are off with their friends. It’s tough to see the start of the school year creep back to August, knowing the sun is setting on one of the final summers where my family remains under one roof.

from Santa Margarita Catholic High School, and every student who applied to Fairmont Preparatory Academy received an offer of admission.
Now settling into their freshman year, SJC graduates are attending the high school that best matches their academic, athletic, artistic, and personal aspirations after choosing from among multiple offers.
For Omar Kariuki's family, those opportunities led to a clear choice. His son, who was part of Fairmont's flagship Athletic Academy, ultimately chose Crean Lutheran High School, where he will continue pursuing his academic and athletic goals while playing basketball.
