PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Dear Friends and Supporters,
It is a pleasure to connect with you and thank you for your invaluable support and love. Because of your continued support and guidance, we are able to fulfil our commitments of delivering essential programs and activities to nurture and educate the children in our care. The board examination result of class Tenth and Twelfth stands testament of our educational service to the children. This year 507 students completed Secondary education (Class X) and 450 students completed Higher Secondary education (Class XII) with the overall passing percentage of 99% and 100% for class Tenth and Twelfth respectively. Similarly, we provided scholarship support to 499 students to pursue higher studies and technical education. Without your continued support, it would be impossible to fulfil our obligations.
Apart from the declining enrollment of Tibetan children, securing adequate funding remains a major challenge for TCV. It has been few years since we have intensified our efforts to reach out to our alumnus residing in Europe and North America in a bid to address the challenge to an extent.
This year I had the opportunity to visit Australia and some countries in Europe on the invitation from the alumni associations in these countries and meet hundreds of former students and staff members. It was a satisfying experience as I had meaningful interactions and dialogues with them. It is overwhelming to witness their affinity to TCV where they have grown up and willingness to contribute in their capacity. I take this opportunity to thank the executive members and volunteers for their hospitality and excellent organization of the events.
Considering the magnitude of our operation and the significance of our mission, there is need for further scaling-up of the support. I would urge more and more alumnus to be part of our effort and contribute toward the nation building endeavor and also request the friends and supporters of TCV to continue their support with same zeal and vigor.
This year we lost couple of great souls and true friends of TCV. The passing away of Mr. Helmut Kutin, the former President of SOS Children’s Villages International and Ms. Samra Losinger, founder of Association Verein Tibetfreunde is a great loss for TCV and the children in its care. We will remain forever indebted for their contribution in our endeavor to nurture and educate the future seeds of Tibet.

President visits Australia and Europe
The Meet and Greet initiative of our President took shape during the TCV Alumni meeting in 2022 following the Long Life Offering (Tenshug) organized by the Global TCV Organization. During that meeting, a suggestion was raised by our alumni to organize international visits for the President, given that over 52,000 students have graduated from Tibetan Children’s Village. These achievements have been possible through the constant blessings and guidance of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and the selfless dedication and visionary leadership of Mrs. Tsering Dolma and Kasur Jetsun Pema la.
Last year, The President visited the United States and Canada with the aim to connect with thealumni and strengthen the bond. Continuing this endeavor, this year, the President and the TCV Alumni Coordinator embarked on a visit to Australia at the invitation of TCV Alumni Associations in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. The trip was scheduled from April 1 to April 19, 2024.
The visit began in Sydney, from April 2 to April 8, 2024. The President was warmly received by the executives of the TCV Alumni Association, Sydney, who arranged meetings with alumni and TCV supporters. This provided a valuable platform to share updates about TCV’s work, address alumni concerns, and secure sponsorships for TCV children.
One month after returning from Aus-
tralia, The President paid visit to Belgium, The Netherlands and France where he had the opportunity to meet and interact with hundreds of Alumni, former staff and friends of TCV.
Overall, the visit fulfilled its objectives; strengthening ties with alumni; garnering support and reaffirming the shared commitment to TCV’s mission. We express our heartfelt gratitude to all alumni volunteers, TCV supporters, and the executives and coordinators of the TCV Alumni Associations for their exceptional efforts in making this trip meaningful and impactful.
New Health Centre at TCV Dharamsala
The new health center at TCV Dharamsala was consecrated and inaugurated by His Eminence the Yongzin Ling Rinpoche on 24th October. A need for a new health center closer to the campus was felt from a long time. We are grateful to International Campaign for Tibet, Germany for funding the construction of the new health center building along with the quarters for the health care workers and the special care home for the differently abled people. The coming up of new health center within the campus has made health care service more accessible for the children. It also contributed to the safety of the children because earlier there was threats of children specially the young ones getting attacked by monkeys while reaching for the health center. The new health center will be of immense help in emergency situations as it is located closer to the children’s homes. We were honored by the presence of ICT delegation comprising of Prof. Jan Anderson, Mr. Kai Mueller, Mrs. Tenchoe Gyatso and many others at the inauguration ceremony.
Appointment/Transfer
Mr. Kalsang Phuntsok is appointed the General Secretary (External Relation) in place of Mrs. Lobsang Tsomo who took voluntary retirement due to personal reasons. Mr. Kalsang Phuntsok has served the organization in various capacities before assuming the responsibility of the General Secretary. He is an alumnus of TCV Dharamsala. After completing his graduation from Panjab University, Chandigarh, he returned to serve TCV as a Mathematics teacher in 1989. He also had the opportunity to study for one year at the University of Vermont under Fulbright schorlarship. He had served as the Village Director of TCV Ladakh from 2013-2017 and TCV Gopalpur from 2017 -2024.

Teachers Professional Development Program
The Teacher Professional Development (TPD) program is designed to help educators enhance their teaching skills, stay updated with the latest educational trends, and improve their overall effectiveness in the classroom. These programs can take various forms, such as workshops, seminars, online courses, conferences, and mentorship programs.
TPD program has been adopted and implemented in TCV schools from many years. On 24 August 2024, a day long program aimed at realizing the TPD goals was held at TCV Dharamsala. Teachers made best use of the platform to share their best practices, success stories and trending teaching approach for the effective classroom teaching. The program aims to create an engaging professional learning community which would go a long way in fostering collaborative learning among teachers.
Mr. Lhundup Namgyal, the school TPD coordinator spoke about Assessment Learning Modules which emphasis the new dimension of assessment and its kind – Diagnostic, Formative and Summative and explained the significance of focusing more on diagnostic and formative assessment. Teachers learnt a dozen of practical assessment tools and motivated to try them for easy accurate continuous assessment.
Teachers were familiarized with Pineapple Chart which is a strategy that allows teachers to invite one another into their classroom for informal observation. He encouraged all to cooperate to build collaborative learning culture in all three sections the future.
Mr. Tenzing Rapgyal, a senior PGT English teacher shared the action research he had undertaken this year captioned Classroom Management. He dwelt on the most disturbing problems of indiscipline in his strategy for classroom management. The data interprets his goal of making his students self disciplined and more responsible for their learning was achieved.
Mrs. Tashi Yangzom, an enthusiastic TGT Social Science spoke about Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET). She shared her experience of preparing for the exam, the syllabus, the qualifying marks, and other important details. She recommended teachers to take the test as a part of professional growth plan.
A Career Exhibition
30th September, 2024: An enriching Career Exhibition was organized in senior section by school counselor, Mrs. Tsering Choedon. The activity aims to acquaint students with a wide range of career fields that suit their interest and ability. It was one of the most important activities initiated from the counselor’s desk which facilitates students to plan for their future. The exhibition was arranged in the section corridor. The entire students made the best use of the time listening to the explanation and exploring the career of their choice and other interesting emerging careers.
The students of class VI to VIII had done a mini project on Career. The students of class IX compiled a Career Menu which outlines vast spectrum of career opportunities available for students of all streams: Humanities, Science and Commerce.
On the whole, the exhibition was an eye-opening experience to all students.
Celebrating Learning: Math and English Day
In an effort to foster a love for learning and creativity and create awareness among our children, our schools observe and dedicate days to various important subjects and topics.such as Math Day, English Day, Environment Day, Anti bully etc. highlighting the school’s dedication to promoting holistic education.
Math Day
On September 20th, 2024, the Math Department celebrated Math Day, focusing on the creativity found in math. Students participated in engaging competitions, presentations on Rubik’s Cube and Sudoku, and demo videos enhancing problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
English Day
On October 15th, 2024, the Primary Section celebrated English Day with vibrant performances by students from classes IV, V, and OC. Highlights included: Poem Recitation: Students performed English poems with clarity and expression.
Songs and Group Songs: Melodious performances showcasing teamwork and coordination.
Role Play: Enthusiastic portrayals of characters from well-known English stories.
Both events reflected school’s commitment to holistic education, allowing students to explore and express their talents, develop new skills, and appreciate different subjects. These celebrations demonstrated the school’s dedication to promoting education, creativity, and a love for learning, inspiring the next generation of thinkers, creators, and leaders.

Exchange Program
a) TCV Suja’s Staff Visit to Kramfors Gymnasium, Sweden (28th September to 4th October 2024)
As part of the ongoing cultural exchange between TCV Suja and Kramfors Gymnasium in Sweden, four of our staff members had the privilege of visiting Sweden from 28th September to 4th October 2024. This exchange continues to build upon the foundation established last year, when four staff members from Kramfors visited TCV Suja. This year, it was our turn to travel and experience the rich culture and education system of Sweden.
The exchange program is the result of an initiative started by the school’s former principal, Mr. Chemey Lhundup, and aims to promote cultural learning, international cooperation, and friendship. During the visit, our staff members—Mr. Ngawang Thupten (School Principal), Mr. Nyima Tsering (Senior Headmaster), Mrs. Sonam Dolma (Home mother In-charge) and Mrs. Sonam Dolkar (computer Instructor)—had the opportunity to immerse themselves in Swedish customs, language, and education practices, while also collaborating with their Swedish counterparts.
The visit provided invaluable insights into the Swedish education system. Our staff had the opportunity to visit a variety of educational institutions, including senior secondary, secondary, middle, vocational, and special schools. They observed classes, interacted with students, and exchanged educational ideas with Swedish teachers, gaining insight into Sweden’s Holistic approach to education.
A particularly memorable aspect of the trip was the meeting with the Principal and Vice Principal of Kramfors Gymnasium, as well as the Mayor of Kramfors. During this meeting, both parties discussed the goals and benefits of the Cultural Exchange Program. The program was a Swedish government-funded initiative designed to promote international cooperation and cultural understanding.
The visit was a resounding success in bridging cultural divides, promoting mutual respect, and enhancing collaboration between TCV Suja and Kramfors Gymnasium. We are excited to host 10 students and 2 teachers from Kramfors at the end of October and look forward to further exchanges that will continue to deepen our connections. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Chemey Lhundup for initiating the program and to Mr. Peter for his instrumental role in coordinating the exchange. We also thank the Kramfors commu-
nity for their warm hospitality and partnership.
b) Kramfors Gymnasium Visit to TCV Suja (21st October to 30th October 2024)
The long-awaited cultural exchange visit from Kramfors Gymnasium, Sweden, came to a close today, leaving behind cherished memories and meaningful connections between the Swedish and Tibetan students and teachers. The group of 10 students and 2 teachers arrived on 21st October, and their time at TCV Suja was filled with enriching experiences that fostered deeper cross-cultural understanding.
The visit coincided with the 64th founding anniversary of Tibetan Children’s Village, making the occasion even more special. The TCV Suja Principal, Mr. Ngawang Thupten, personally received the guests at Gaggal Airport and escorted them on a tour of key Tibetan institutions and landmarks in Dharamsala. This included a visit to the Tibet Museum at the Central Tibetan Administration office in Gangkyi, where they learned about the history and cultural heritage of Tibet. They also had a thought-provoking session with Geshe Lhakdor, the head of the Tibetan Library and Archives, deepening their understanding of Tibet-
an Buddhism and its teachings.
A highlight of the visit was a scenic hike to Triund, a stunning spot at the foot of the Dhauladhar mountains. At an altitude of 2,828 meters, the breathtaking view of the surrounding landscapes left the visitors awe-struck, and the successful completion of the hike was a memorable achievement.
Back at TCV Suja, the visitors spent time engaging with students and exploring school life. One of the most heartwarming moments was when the 10 Kramfors students met their TCV Suja pen pals, creating bonds of friendship that will last well beyond the exchange. They also participated in various activities, gaining first-hand experience of Tibetan culture and education. This exchange program has not only strengthened the bond between TCV Suja and Kramfors Gymnasium but also deepened our shared commitment to fostering global citizenship, mutual respect, and educational innovation. We look forward to the next phase of this partnership, confident that it will continue to enrich our students and staff alike.
To bid farewell, TCV Suja hosted a cultural program featuring traditional Tibetan dance and songs. The Swedish guests also had the opportunity to dress in Tibetan attire, and the group shared a joyful photo session, symbolizing the friendship and cultural exchange that had blossomed during their stay.
As the Kramfors delegation departed for home on 30th October, both TCV Suja and Kramfors Gymnasium reflected on the success of the exchange, which strengthened ties between our two communities and enriched everyone involved. We thank Kramfors Gymnasium, the Swedish state, and all those who contributed to making this cultural exchange an unforgettable experience. We look forward to more such exchanges in the future.

Conclusion
These two phases of the Cultural Exchange Program have proven to be highly impactful, strengthening bonds of understanding and friendship between the Tibetan and Swedish communities. As TCV Suja prepares for future exchanges, we are excited about the continued collaboration with Kramfors Gymnasium and the opportunities for further cross-cultural learning.

Report on Waste Management Initiatives
This year TCV Suja came out with an ingenious way to dispose the waste. In May 2024, our school initiated a movement to eliminate garbage burning on campus, addressing both environmental concerns and community health. Initially, we explored various waste management options before reaching out to the Waste Warriors’ Society in Dharamshala, a dedicated NGO focused on resolving the waste management crisis in Himachal Pradesh. The Waste Warriors agreed to collect our low-grade waste after segregation, charging us ₹15 per kilogram. While this is a relatively high cost, it is a worthwhile investment in preventing the release of harmful gases from burning waste.
Twelve dedicated students have volunteered to assist in the collection and segregation of waste, working under the supervision of our staff member, Tsewang Rinzin. Their efforts exemplify our commitment to this eco-friendly movement.
On May 17, 2024, a training workshop was held for 12 student volunteers, led
by two members of the Waste Warriors, headed by Mr. Ankush. The workshop included educating the students how to segregate the waste properly and how to pack them for transportation.
An awareness campaign was also carried out on May 28, 2024, during the morning assembly. The campaign was led by our school principal and featured a PowerPoint presentation that highlighted the Importance of Waste Segregation and Our Movement Against Garbage Burning. All staff and students were present during the presentation, fostering a strong community understanding of our waste management goals.
These initiatives have empowered our student volunteers and raised awareness among the entire school community about sustainable practices and the importance of waste management. As of now, we have successfully segregated and handed over 650 kg of low-grade waste to the Waste Warriors. This initiative not only reduces our environmental footprint but also fosters a culture of sustainability within our school community.
We remain committed to this initiative and will continue to seek solutions that promote environmental sustainability. The cooperation with Waste Warriors marks a significant step toward effective waste management in our school.

SELAKUI
VIPASSANA MEDITATION TRAINING AND PRACTICE
TCV School Selakui invited three nuns from Sakya nunnery to introduce Vipassana meditation to the staff and students. The meditation training session was conducted for six days starting from 13th Sept to 24th Sept. during the morning assembly which starts from 7.25 a.m. to 7.55 a.m.
This meditation practice, focuses on self-awareness and mindfulness to enhance mental well-being and inner peace. These include mindful breathing, cultivating stillness, and observing the self without judgment. In today’s fast-paced world, students often face stress, anxiety, and distractions that affect their mental well-being and academic performance. Regular practice improves concentration, enabling students to focus better on their studies. It also promotes self-discipline and helps them manage stress and negative emotions, leading to a healthier mind-set.
ROBOTIC TRAINING
On the 13th of September 2024, TCV School Selakui hosted a comprehensive robotics training workshop conducted by Mr. Saurabh from Noida, a robotics kits dealer and experienced trainer from Delhi. The workshop took place from 9 AM to 4 PM. 30 students from classes 8 to 11 participated in it. The workshop began with an engaging introduction to robotics, covering the basics of robotics kits, their parts, and functions. Mr. Saurabh elaborated on how robotics could be integrated with other subjects, offering students a multi-
disciplinary approach to learning.
The students were given handson experience with assembling and coding their robotics kits. Using a block-based drag-anddrop interface, they learned the fundamentals of programming their robots to perform specific tasks. This coding method was simple enough for beginners but powerful enough to challenge advanced learners.
The workshop was a resounding success, providing the students with practical skills in both robotics and programming. The use of Spike Prime and EV3 kits, combined with the structured challenges and guidance from Mr. Saurabh, made the learning process both fun and educational. The day-long session concluded with students displaying their robots’ capabilities and discussing potential future projects.
This training has sparked a growing interest in robotics among the students, laying the groundwork for future explorations into STEM fields.
Participation in The Emory-Tibet Science Initiative (ETSI)
The Emory-Tibet Science Initiative (ETSI) Monastic Research Conference held in Dharamsala, India (May 24th-25th, 2024), aimed to bridge the gap between ancient wisdom and modern science. His Holiness the Dalai Lama held a longstanding vision of bringing contemporary science into the core curriculum of Tibetan monasteries as humanity will truly benefit in numerous ways. 15 students from TCV Selakui School attended the conference that focused on “Investigating the Impacts of Contemplative Practices,” bringing together researchers, scientists, and monastic scholars to explore the scientific basis of how meditation and mindfulness techniques can influence the brain and mental well-being.
The two-day-long research conference consists of a series of presentations on
eight scientific research studies conducted by monastic students as part of the ETSI Sustainability Phase Research Program, two presentations on SEE Learning Implementation in the Tibetan schools, one poster presentation session, two panel discussions, and a moderated conversation on the future of monastic science education. The conference aimed to present eight scientific research studies on contemplative practices conducted by monastic scientists as part of the ETSI’s Sustainability Phase Program. Conference was successfully able to foster the Tibetan community’s interests, particularly among younger Tibetan science students, in the
field of collaborative research on the contemplative practices drawn from their own rich culture and inspire them to go into these fields in the future.
The presentation on wide scale SEE learning implementation happened in Tibetan schools across India and Toronto create awareness on the positive impacts on students and teacher’s life.
In Conclusion, the ETSI Monastic Research Conference served as a significant step in bridging the gap between the wisdom of contemplative traditions and the rigor of scientific inquiry. It enriched our comprehensive understanding on how integration of contemplative practice and modern science, can cultivate inner peace, compassion, and well-being in a world that increasingly needs it.

Report on the Inter-School Literary and Cultural Meet 2024
The Inter-School Literary and Cultural Meet 2024, hosted by TCV Chauntra, was a remarkable three-day event that showcased the exceptional talents of Tibetan students from across several schools. Organized by the Department of Education Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), this event brought together nearly 200 students to participate, collaborate, and celebrate their shared achievements in literary and cultural endeavours.

Day 1: Inauguration and Preliminary Rounds
The event commenced on Wednesday, September 25th, 2024, with a grand opening ceremony. Renowned scholar and translator, Geshe Lhakdor, graced the occasion as the chief guest. The ceremony featured traditional Tibetan performances and speeches emphasizing the importance of education and cultural preservation. The chief guest’s inspiring words set the tone for the meet, highlighting the value of unity and cultural pride. The event was then officially declared open. Following the inauguration, preliminary rounds began for the various literary and cultural activities, including Tibetan and English debates, providing a competitive yet collegial atmosphere.
Day 2: Continued Activities
Thursday, September 26th, 2024, was packed with inspiring performances as students showcased their skills in poetry recitation and captivating dramas. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm, and the students supported each other wholeheartedly, regardless of their school affiliations. The meet fostered not only individual talent but also a spirit of collaboration and mutual respect.
Day 3: Cultural Performances and Closing Ceremony
The final day, Friday, September 27th, began with an awe-inspiring session of Tibetan cultural songs and dances, performed collectively by all participating schools. This was followed by thoughtful feedback sessions, with students receiving valuable guidance from experienced observers.
The closing ceremony was the highlight of the day, featuring speeches by Department of Education representatives who commended the participants for their performances and commitment to cultural preservation.
Certificates were awarded to all participants, honorariums to observers, and mementos were distributed to the schools. Escort teachers were also honored with scarves for their guidance and support. The chief guest for the closing ceremony, President of TCV Schools, Mr. Sonam Sichoe, delivered a heartfelt speech, expressing pride in the students’ accomplishments. The event concluded with a warm address from the school principal, who acknowledged the hard work and dedication of all those involved.
Planning and Preparation
The success of this inter-school meet was the result of meticulous planning that started months before the event. The school principal spearheaded the planning efforts, conducting regular meetings to ensure smooth logistics and effective coordination. The team took into account every detail, from scheduling the sequence of events to ensuring that observers were well-informed about their roles. Constant monitoring and guidance from school heads ensured that all preparations stayed on track.
Feedback and Reflections
At the end of the meet, participating schools expressed their heartfelt gratitude
to the host school for their warm hospitality and efficient organization. Many students left with cherished memories, new friendships, and a deeper appreciation of Tibetan culture. The meet not only celebrated academic and cultural achievements but also nurtured a sense of unity and belonging among the Tibetan student community.
Conclusion
The Inter-School Literary and Cultural Meet 2024 was a tremendous success. It provided a platform for students to grow, learn, and exchange ideas, while also celebrating their shared heritage. Though challenges arose during the planning and execution phases, the spirit of collaboration and teamwork allowed the event to run smoothly. The meet’s success is a testament to the dedication of the organizers, the enthusiasm of the participants, and the unwavering support from the Tibetan community. It truly encapsulated the importance of preserving Tibetan language, culture, and values for future generations.
BYLAKUPPE
Riglam Congregation (Ancient art of Dialectics)
From August 28 to September 4, 2024, TCV Bylakuppe students (18 Participants from Class 6 to 9), actively took part in the Tibetan Dialectics Meet organized by the Department of Education (DOE) of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) at Tashi Lhunpo Monastery. Riglam is an ancient art of learning through debate and reasoning. Riglam is introduced and practiced in all the TCV schools as its benefit is far reaching. The event brought together students from seven Tibetan schools to engage in discussions and debates on traditional Tibetan philosophical texts, fostering critical thinking and deepening their un-
derstanding of Tibetan culture. The students demonstrated their skills in dialectical reasoning, contributing to a vibrant exchange of ideas and strengthening their commitment to preserving Tibetan heritage.
CTA Level Science Exhibition
From July 26 to July 29, 2024, 20 students (class 11 & 12) from TCV Bylakuppe participated in the CTA Level Science Exhibition organized by the Department of Education (DOE) of the Central Tibetan Administration at Sera Jey Science Centre. The students showcased innovative projects and experiments, highlighting their understanding of scientific concepts and their creativity. Through engaging presentations and interactive displays, they demonstrated their research skills and ability to apply scientific principles. This event provided a valuable platform for students to connect with peers, exchange ideas, and inspire one another in the pursuit of scientific knowledge. The exhibition was inaugurated by the Honourable Minister of Education, Mrs. Tharlam Dolma Changra, and it was graced by the presence of Geshe Tashi Tsethar, Chief Abbot of Sera Jey Monastery. A total of 35 exhibits from 11 different schools participated in the event, themed “Science and Technology for Society.”
Six exhibits from Tibetan Children’s Village School, Bylakuppe, were selected through a preliminary round from over 80 submissions, including writeups, proformas, and videos, received by the Department of Education in May from various Tibetan schools in India. The participants of the school included 17 students from the twelfth grade and 3 students from the eleventh grade. They dedicated over a month to developing their projects with guidance and support from mentor teachers and the school adminis-
tration.
The six projects were: Sustainable House, Blue Drop Energy, Should Ginger Cultivation be Banned? Project Tiffin, Sewage Water Treatment System, and Project Python. Project Tiffin, led by Tenzin Naljor, Karma Lodoe Lama, Tenzin Tsokyi, and Tenzing Yangchen of the twelfth grade, was selected among the 12 best projects to advance to further screening for participation in the national-level Rashtriya Bal Vaigyanik Pradarshani-2024.

In anticipation of TCV Ladakh’s 50th founding anniversary in 2025, the senior students lend their hands in preparations of the event by clearing stones and leveling uneven ground. This milestone—marking five decades of dedicated service to the Tibetan community— is a proud achievement for everyone involved. Working in teams throughout the day, the students cleared every stone and pebble, setting the stage for next year’s celebrations. Excitement is building as we prepare to host an unforgettable event for our guests, who include former students, retired staff, sponsors, and esteemed officials.
International Day of Yoga
As the world observed 21st June 2024 as the “International Day of Yoga”. TCV Ladakh proudly participated in the Yoga event with another 12 Government and private schools in Ladakh at Astro-Turf stadium (India’s highest football stadium), to present our Yoga skills.
Yoga is practiced at the children’s village from time to time during the morning
Assembly. Our two Physical Education Instructors who are proficient in Yoga took initiatives to introduce Yoga to the children, which is really a blessing for the children.
An Oasis in the Desert: Bringing Hope and Greenery
TCV School Ladakh has been called an oasis in the desert, symbolizing the hope it offers to the hopeless, much like an oasis that provides relief in a barren land. Senior students and staff have planted hundreds of trees within the school grounds, transforming the once barren landscape into a place of greenery and renewal.

Inter-School Riglam Congregation
Opening function on 30th September (Monday) at 9:30 A.M actually brightened the 11th Riglam Duezom with the chief guest as DoE, CTA Secretary. Mr. Jigme Namgyal and guest of honour as Mrs. Ngawang Lhamo, Education Director from TCV Head office.
Approximately around 300 students with 11 Tadup Lonpons from six different schools (Upper, Petoen, Selakui, Suja, Chauntra and Gopalpur) attended this Doezom.
Wednesday the 2nd October marked an absolutely memorable day for all who witnessed this Duezom in
Gopalpur because of the special arrangement of function along with chief guest as Kundeling Rinpoche and the cultural show in the evening to all the participants concluded the day of Gandhi Jayanti.
5th October (Saturday) marked the Riglam Duezom concluding day in the morning with chief guest as Rev. Yangphel, Principal Namgyal monastery school guest of honour along with President of TCV, Mr. Sonam Sichoe as chief guest in the morning concluding function in the hall. Everything went smoothly throughout the week with lots of experiences and learning with perfect enthusiasm from these over 300 children from different TCV schools and Peteon in Sherab Gatsal ling / Dharamsala.
TIBETAN PRIVATE ITI - DEHRADUN
Mechanic Motor Vehicle Affiliation Status
Since its inception, our institute has been dedicated to offering training in the Mechanic Motor Vehicle trade. However, we faced challenges in securing NCVT affiliation due to a lack of essential tools and equipment. However, with the generous funding of the Vimala Association (Rs. 25, 74,010) and TCV Head office (Rs. 13, 25,000) we were able to initiate a project on April 6, 2023, to address this deficiency.
The NCVT affiliation inspection took place on January 9, 2024. During this comprehensive evaluation, NCVT officials assessed our institute’s infrastructure, facilities, faculty qualifications, and curriculum against their standards. After a yearlong affiliation process, our institute successfully achieved NCVT affiliation on June 3, 2024. This significant milestone was the conclusion of thorough planning, dedicated efforts, and unwavering commitment from the entire team
especially Vimala Association.
Securing this affiliation is not just a milestone for our institute; it significantly enhances the employability prospects of our trainees, who will now be eligible to sit for the NCVT DGT certification examination in the upcoming session. This certification will provide them with a recognized credential that is highly valued in the industry.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Vimala Association and our TCV Head Office in Dharamsala for their generous support. Their contribution has been instrumental in enabling us to achieve this important milestone and provide our trainees with the necessary resources to succeed in their educational pursuits.
India Skill Uttarakhand Competition (State Level):
The Uttarakhand Skill Development Mission organized a Skill Olympiad from April 1st to 4th, 2024. Our center was selected to host the competition in the following trades to recognize the quality of training provided:
Food Production General: 12
Baker and Confectionery: 1
Beauty Therapy: 2
The first day of the Olympiad was dedicated to an introductory session and basic instructions provided by our skilled trade instructors. On the second day, participants received essential training to prepare them for the competition.
On the third day, participants organized their workstations, prepared their tools and equipment, and finalized their strategies for the competition. The main competition was held on the fourth day, judged by external experts. After the competition concluded, a closing ceremony was presided over by Shri Vijay Kumar Yadav, Secretary, Skill Development and Employment, as the Chief Guest, and Mrs. Chandrakanta, Nodal Officer at the Uttarakhand Skill Development Mission.
This Skill Olympiad provided an excellent platform for participants to showcase their skills and compete with their peers. It also highlighted the quality of training and facilities offered at our center. The event served as a significant motivation for our students to strive for excellence and pursue further opportunities in their respective fields.

Following the vision and wisdom of His Holiness the Dalai Lama that the modern education alone is insufficient in leading a happy and a meaningful life, we at TCV have always laid emphasis on the importance of compassion, ethics, and inner development based on Buddhist teachings.
When Emory University came up the concept of SEE Learning (Social, Emotional and Ethical Learning) and devised its curriculum, TCV was quick to embrace the SEE learning curriculum and introduce it in our schools. The prime purpose of integrating the curriculum was to make our children aware about different emotions and their effects on our well-being and to encourage the children to cultivate positive values such as love, compassion etc. and equipped them with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate through the positive and negative emotions and challenges of life.
Social, Emotional and Ethical Learning (SEE Learning) is a program that focuses on fostering holistic education, emphasizing emotional intelligence, ethical
literacy, and social skills. The key components of (1) SEE Learning are Attention and Awareness Training, (2i) Compassion for self and others, (3) Resilience (4) System thinking and (5) Ethical discernment.
It is the culmination of an academic collaboration that began in 1998 between Emory University and His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Guided by a shared vision for an education of heart and mind, the program conveys a universal, non-sectarian, and science-based approach to bringing the ethical development of the child into education—an approach long advocated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
SEE Learning provides educators with a comprehensive framework for the cultivation of social, emotional and ethical competencies; age-specific curricula comprised of easy to implement lessons; and a support structure for educator preparation, facilitator certification, and on-going professional development.
SEE Learning builds upon the best practices in social-emotional learning (SEL) programs, but also expands on them by drawing in new developments based on the latest knowledge in educational practice and scientific research. It includes important new topics such as attention training, the cultivation of compassion for self and others, resiliency skills based on trauma-informed care, systems thinking, and ethical discernment.
At TCV, we have qualified SEE Learning facilitators in all the TCV schools who have undergone specialized training in the SEE learning framework to guide the students and participant in this curriculum. The facilitators are responsible for training the teachers and educate the children.
SEE Learning is fundamentally based around three dimensions, which broadly encompass the types of knowledge and competencies it seeks to foster in students: (1) Awareness, (2) Compassion, and (3) Engagement. Furthermore, these three dimensions can be approached in three domains: (1) Personal, (2) Social,
and (3) Systems. The three dimensions of SEE Learning—Awareness, Compassion, and Engagement—relate intimately to each other and are therefore depicted as overlapping. Each contains a set of specific competencies that can be taught individually but are best understood within the context of the whole. In order to take constructive action – individually or collectively – first one must become aware of the issue or problem. Second, one must care and develop an emotional investment that generates motivation to act. Finally, one must act skilfully.
SEE learning at TCV
SEE Learning classes are conducted every Saturday throughout the academic year during the 6th and 7th periods, focusing on grade-specific topics. Each class is led by a designated teacher, who delivers the session using the five-part SEE Learning experiences framework:
1. Check-in: A brief activity to engage students and set a positive tone.
2. Presentation or Discussion: Introducing the topic with clarity and context.
3. Insight Activity: A hands-on or interactive exercise to deepen understanding.
4. Reflective Practice: Encouraging students to introspect and connect the lesson to their personal experiences.
5. Debrief: Concluding the session with discussions to consolidate learning. The structured approach ensures the program’s core values—compassion, resilience, self-awareness, and collaboration—are effectively integrated into students’ learning. This initiative has created a supportive environment where students and teachers collectively nurture emotional intelligence and ethical
behavior, equipping learners with vital skills for their personal and social lives.
Kindergarten: In the kindergarten classes, teachers successfully implemented SEE Learning activities to introduce our youngest students to concepts of empathy, self-awareness, and emotional regulation. Activities included storytelling, role-playing, and integrated age-appropriate activities in the classroom. During the annual Gyalshen Day, they shared their experiences with all the junior sections which were welcomed by all with great excitement.
Elementary: In elementary grades, SEE Learning was integrated into the curriculum, and students were actively engaged in activities like gratitude journals, mindfulness exercises, and kindness dairy. Meditation or mindful activities are part of the weekly program of the school where students try to practice grounding, resourcing, and reflection.
Middle School: Middle school students continued to build on the foundation laid in earlier years, delving deeper into themes such as ethical decision-making, resilience, and compassion. They participated in group projects and case studies designed to promote critical thinking and empathy.
High School: High school students explored advanced SEE Learning topics and were involved in community service initiatives and projects to apply their learning to real-world scenarios. They also engaged in debates and
Some Activities
Wisdom and knowledge all around - Inspirational quotes, images, and diagrams are painted and flex charts are placed in easily noticeable and frequently visited places, ensuring they capture children’s attention and immerse their minds in positive and thought-provoking topics. When students are surrounded by inspiring visuals and thought-provoking messages, children are better prepared to unlock the hidden wisdom which deeply engraved in memory.
Workshops and talks for Teachers, Mothers and other Staff members: Schools organized series of workshop and talks for the teachers, home mothers and other co-workers to create awareness on importance of values such as compassion, warm-heartedness, empathy etc and need for creating a compassionate environment for learning for the children. They invited distinguished guests and scholars such as Geshe Lhakdor la and other expert facilitators on SEE Learning from time to time.
Developing Awareness Programs: Initiatives like creating compassion and gratitude trees and displaying posters with words of wisdom and compassion have reinforced SEE Learning principles throughout the school community.
Cultivating Attention Workshop: A comprehensive SEE Learning session on attention was conducted by Gyen Tsondue Samphel la, Senior Program Coordinator & SEE Learning Trainer from Emory University, benefiting both staff and students at TCV Selakui.
Meditation: Children are introduced to meditation. In 2023 His eminence Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche taught the children and staffs of TCV Dharamsala the techniques of meditation in a simple and easy to practice manner. Similarly, a six-day retreat featuring Vipassana Meditation, led by practitioners from Sakya Nunnery, provided students and staff of TCV Selakui with valuable mindfulness practices.
Community Service: SEE Learning in the Community: Our schools actively contributed to the community through a variety of service projects. These experiences allowed students to connect their classroom learning to the real world. Some of the initiatives included:
• Serving the Elderlies in the nearby old age homes
• Helping at special needs schools
• Cleaning the surrounding and nearby town by clearing away garbage.
• Planting trees and gardening.
• Animal care (treating wounded and ailing animals)
Collaborative Planning: Teachers collaborated to develop cross-curricular connections between SEE Learning and other subjects, fostering a holistic approach to education. Over and above the usual SEE learning class, teachers are attempting to integrate basic principles of the SEE learning program in their classroom teaching to foster qualities such as
• Building focus and attention
• Managing emotions and stress
• Developing kindness and compassion
• Enhancing conflict resolution skills
• Cultivating ecological and social awarenes

Obituaries
Mr. Helmut Kutin (1941-2024)
Tibetan Children’s Village deeply mourn the sad demise of Mr. Helmut Kutin, the former President of SOS Kinderdorf International. Mr. Kutin has dedicated his life for well-being of impoverished and underpriviledged children around the world. TCV will always remember him as a true friend and a benefactor of Tibetan children.
We extend our sincere prayers for the departed soul. May the kind soul rest in peace.
Tibetan Children’s Village deeply mourn the sad demise of the long time friend and supporter of TCV, Mrs. Samra Losinger. She founded the association Verein Tibetfruende in 1988 and had worked tirelessly for the Tibetan refugee children at TCV until her last breath. In her passong away TCV has lost a dear friend and a steadfast support.
We extend our sincere prayers. May the kind soul rest in peace.

Tibetan Children’s Village is a charitable organisation, almost entirely dependent on the kindness and generosity of friends, supporters and donors. We are fortunate that international aid agencies and individuals have always been sympathetic to the Tibetan situation and have responded well to our appeal for the help.
While efforts continue to be made towards becoming self-reliant and independent through different self-sustaning ventures like the TCV Enterprises, parents own contributions, TCV membership, alumni and other projects to generate internal sources of revenue, we are still challenged with so many needy children to look after from within the Tibetan comunity in exile, the Himalayan regions and those that escape out of Tibet. As a result it is impossible to sustain the life-giving works of TCV without help from outside. Therefore, The Tibetan Children’s Village will always stand in need of assistance from its friends and supporters.
