LNC KNIGHT STANDARD

Since November 2025, we have been sharing with you our monthly Knight Standard email series, and we hope you have had the opportunity to follow along. Each installment has spotlighted one of the seven durable skills (online responsibility, adaptability, integrity, critical thinking, communication, learner’s mindset and empathy) that strengthen and support the academic foundation of the Knight Standard.

At Lake Norman Charter, the Knight Standard serves as the guiding expectation for all we do. It reflects the excellence of our academic programs, the wide range of opportunities available to students both inside and beyond the classroom, and our steadfast commitment to our school’s mission and vision.

We all shared a proud and happy moment as ES teacher Stephanie Lane received her award as NC Charter School Teacher of the Year from Mo Green, NC State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Lake Norman Charter earned the Financial Aid Champion designation from College Foundation of North Carolina!

This recognition highlights the impactful work of our high school counselors, who use student-centered strategies to help LNC students access financial aid opportunities. This is the first time LNC has received this designation—a meaningful milestone that reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting students and families.

Thank you to our counselors for supporting our students throughout their educational jouney at LNC!

We are so incredibly grateful for our amazing PTO and all the joy you bring to our school community! From the delicious first Friday afternoon treats to the thoughtful breakfasts, generous staff lunches, father/daughter dances, and the special touch of birthday celebrations, you make all the staff feel appreciated and cared for!

Your kindness, creativity, and dedication each and every day help create a warm, supportive environment for both staff and students, and we are so lucky to have you. Thank you for everything you do!

Thank you to our dedicated parent volunteers for the many ways you support LNC students each day. Our school community is stronger because of your commitment and we are truly grateful for all that you do.

KUDOS TO OUR KIDS

Kabir Sangha, Safy Rahman, Will Palmer, Sriswaroop Koundinya, Silvy Schild and Laasya Gunichetty were named Commended Students in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program. Out of approximately 34,000 students nationwide, these scholars have demonstrated outstanding academic potential and excellence.

On May 3, Joel Jung participated in the All State Honor Band. Joel is the 7th highest ranked middle school flute player in the state!

He performed with the other top middle school musicians from the state. This is Joel's 2nd year in a row earning a spot in the All State band.

Rachael Husak and Hany Karanam were among the 3 winners of the regional Poetry Out Load competition.

At the State competition they performed three poems for a panel of judges, including the Poet Laureate of Charlotte and the Poet Laureate of North Carolina. This is the first time that LNC has, not one, but TWO Poetry Out Loud State finalists!

Aditi Kooram Tirumala received the Governor’s Volunteer Service Award 2026, recognizing a strong commitment to community service and meaningful impact.

Seehe Veera earned the Congressional Award, the U.S. Congress’s highest honor for youth (14–24), recognizing initiative, service and achievement.

Several HS Science Olympiad team members earned individual event medals at the NCSO State Tournament in Raleigh:

Electric Vehicle -- Cameron Crawford and Roshini Sankar

Entomology -- Cameron Crawford and Caitlyn Drago

Experimental Design -- Rohan Apte, Pranika Senthil and Saanvi Veerthinen Machines -- Rohan Manargudi and Siddharth Senthil

The 8th grade band traveled to Virginia and performed in the Busch Gardens Festival of Music. Their Friday performance earned them the rating of "Superior" from both judges (the only MS band or orchestra to do so). On Saturday, they had a day of fun at Busch Gardens.

Knight Watch competed in Williamsburg, VA and was awarded a rating of Excellent! Only two points separated them from the first place band.

STAFF SUCCESSES

HS English teacher Ms. Melissa Smith received the John L. Manear Outstanding NEHS Advisor Award.

This award recognizes exemplary advisors and highlights their profound impact on shaping the future leaders of tomorrow. Through their commitment to fostering a love of literature, language and service, recipients leave an indelible mark on their NEHS chapters and the broader educational community, embodying the spirit of John L. Manear’s enduring legacy.

LNC's Mr. Lon Chang was named Charter Region IT Director of the Year by the Reconnect Technology Directors!

We are so proud of the teachers and staff who attended and presented at the 2026 Fresh Take conference! Fresh Take is an annual educator conference planned by teachers for teachers.

Several of our amazing LNC teachers took the stage at the Fresh Take Conference, sharing their innovative teaching methods with educators from across the state! We’re so proud to see our team leading the way and inspiring others with their expertise.
