As we move into the spring season, I want to thank our community for your continued support of our parks, programs, and facilities. Your feedback and involvement help guide the future of recreation in Waynesville, and we truly appreciate the time so many of you have taken to share your thoughts.
This is a reminder that our Parks and Recreation Master Plan Survey will remain open through March 11. If you have not yet participated, we encourage you to do so. This survey is an important opportunity for residents to help shape priorities, improvements, and investments in our parks and programs for years to come. Your voice plays a vital role in ensuring we meet the needs of our growing and diverse community. We are also excited to share progress on several key projects. Construction is currently underway on the new ball fields and dog park, which will provide expanded recreational opportunities for youth, families, and pet owners alike. In addition, we have completed the new Bi-Lo Pavilion, creating another welcoming space for gatherings, events, and outdoor enjoyment. Over the coming weeks, we will be installing additional picnic tables to enhance comfort and accessibility for all visitors.
As you enjoy our beautiful parks and greenways, we kindly remind everyone to pick up after your pets. Keeping our spaces clean and safe ensures that all residents and visitors can continue to enjoy the high quality of our facilities.
Thank you again for being an engaged and supportive community. We look forward to continuing to serve you and to seeing you in our parks this season.
Sincerely,

WAYNESVILLE PARKS & RECREATION MASTER PLAN
What is a Parks & Recreation Master Plan?
A Parks & Recreation Master Plan is a long-range guide that helps our town plan for parks, trails, green spaces, community facili ties, and recreation programs over the coming years. Think of it as a road map that shows how Waynesville can best serve current residents and future generations — from playgrounds and sports fields to walking trails and natural spaces. Master plans look at existing conditions, community needs, and priorities, and recommend projects, timing, and strategies to make sure investments are smart, equitable, and sustainable.
Who is conducting Waynesville’s Master Plan?
Our Master Plan is being developed by WithersRavenel, a multidisciplinary planning and engineering firm with decades of experience helping communities like ours envision and implement parks, recreation, and open-space improvements. WithersRavenel is an employee-owned civil and community planning firm founded in 1983, with professionals in planning, landscape architecture, engineering, and public engagement working together to shape community plans and spaces.
Their Parks & Recreation planning process includes gathering data, assessing current facilities and programs, engaging res idents and stakeholders, and developing a vision and actionable recommendations that reflect what the community wants and needs.
Why Your Voice is So Important — Take the Community Survey!
A key part of the Master Plan is public input, and that’s where you come in. The survey we’ll be sharing soon is your chance to tell us what matters most to you — which parks and programs you use, what’s missing, what could be improved, and what future projects are priorities for Waynesville. Please scan the QR code below to take the survey.
Public surveys are crucial because they give planners a real, community-wide snapshot of what residents want and need. This feedback helps ensure the Master Plan doesn’t just reflect expert analysis, but also the opinions and experiences of the people who live here. Survey responses help guide decision-making, shape priorities, support grant applications, and improve transparency — ultimately leading to better parks, programs, and public spaces that reflect the community’s true needs.
Whether you’re a daily park visitor or someone who rarely uses recreational facilities — your input matters. The Master Plan’s success depends on hearing from as many voices as possible so that the final plan truly represents all corners of our community. Thank you for participating! Together, we can shape the future of parks and recreation in Waynesville for years to come.
