LJMU is perfectly located for those who want to move away for university, or those who wish to commute.
With both national and city-wide trains, and city and regional buses arriving within a short walk of our campuses, you’ll understand why scousers feel like Liverpool is the centre of the universe…!

Browse our accommodation options and go on a virtual tour of many of our halls - visit ljmu.ac.uk/accommodation

Our LJMU approved accommodation offers highquality, safe and comfortable accommodation in the heart of Liverpool city centre. All our accommodation has high-speed Wi-Fi, which will come in handy for both studying and streaming –and the majority is en-suite, with many having additional facilities as standard, like an on-site gym or parking. And did we mention that all our accommodation is within a short walk of our campuses – making rolling out of bed and into university easy (don’t tell our academics!).
All tenancies in LJMU approved accommodation last the full academic year –so you won’t have to move your stuff back home at Christmas or Easter breaks – and if you find your home sweet home, you’re allowed to stay on after your first year!
You can sleep sound knowing that LJMU guarantees all undergraduate students high-quality accommodation in the heart of Liverpool city centre as standard.
If you choose to stay at home, you won’t be aloneroughly one in three LJMU students choose to live at home in their first year. You won’t be missing out on student life by commuting to campus. We have dedicated groups for local applicants to meet each other online before they arrive, but whether it’s through societies, sport, or your course, you’ll find meeting people who share your interests is easy when you’re in good company.
Most undergraduate students will apply for both student loans – the tuition fee loan, and the maintenance loan.
Unlike your tuition fee loan, which is paid directly to LJMU, your maintenance loan is paid into your bank account in three installments, and it is up to you how you spend it.
If you decide to live away from home, the bulk of your maintenance loan will be spent on your rent. If you choose to live in LJMU approved accommodation, rent is paid across the year in three installments that coincide with your student funding payments. Once you have paid your rent for the term, you can then work out how much you have for the remainder of the term.
If you decide to stay at home you will still be eligible for a maintenance loan, if you wish to apply for one. Students who live at home often choose to invest in a travel pass at the start of the year to make it easier to budget around getting to and from campus.

Limelight is the newest hall available as it only fully opened in 2024. It offers premium en-suite accommodation with extensive communal facilities and great views across the city.
Albert Court and Prospect Point are two excellent value, en-suite options which are suitable for students at either campus. Many rooms at Albert Court were upgraded in summer 2022 and now feature small double beds. Rooms at Prospect Point are larger than in many other halls.
Agnes Jones House is an excellent choice for students seeking good value accommodation because it features flats with shared bathrooms.
Grand Central is one of the liveliest of all the accommodation options, with two en-suite room options available.
Copperas House is one of the newest options available, as it opened in summer 2021. It is well located close to the Student Life Building and LJMU Sport building and is suitable for students at either campus.
St Luke’s View is an excellent option for students located in the Mount Pleasant campus, with large flats and a private courtyard space.
Horizon Heights and Hardman House are two modern options within Mount Pleasant campus. All rooms at both sites feature en-suite bathrooms.
Grenville Street and The Arch are two contemporary options, located close to the vibrant student nightlife area and the shops and amenities of Liverpool One. Both halls have larger rooms than many others within the campus and hence they represent excellent value.
Marybone is a large, three phase complex and is ideally located adjacent to the Avril Robarts Library and the Tithebarn Street building. Marybone 1 features flats with shared bathrooms and double beds at very reasonable rents. Marybone 2 and 3 are almost identical and are fully en-suite.
Ablett House, Glassworks and Byrom Point are three newer accommodation sites located within the City Campus and are fully en-suite. They each have a common room and study area to meet and socialise with other residents.
Atlantic Point is an excellent value en-suite option, located opposite the Byrom Street teaching buildings. It is one of the largest sites offered to new students and has a limited number of parking spaces.

Living in halls was the most memorable part of LJMU. I have changed so much through being here - I have matured massively.

Most LJMU students can study abroad for a semester or year as part of their LJMU degree. Whether you study in Japan or Norway, USA or Australia, you will be taught in English and it will count towards your degree. If you want to immerse yourself in a different culture while enhancing your academic learning, this is the thing for you!
This experience has helped me grow in confidence in ways I didn’t expect. I’ve learned that I’m capable of tackling challenges, especially language and cultural ones, head-on. A year ago, I wouldn’t have had the same level of self-assurance.

1
Our city centre is compact, easily walkable, and well connected by public transport.

2
We’re a place that loves to party, with more than 300 bars, a vibrant live music scene and club nights that go down in history.

We’re one of the UK’s top student cities* for so many reasons – how about we start with 10 of them?

3
You already know us for our Premier League pedigree, but Merseyside is much more than our three(!) professional clubs. We are home to a top rugby league team, an athletics club of Olympians, plus watersports centres, skateparks and much more in between.

Our culinary heritage runs deep - salt and pepper chips were literally invented in Liverpool. But if you still need to be convinced you’ll be spoilt for choice amongst our variety of food markets, thousands of restaurants, coffee roasteries, craft breweries and cafés galore.

4 * (Student Crowd, 2025)
5
We’re famous for our breathtaking architecture, so much so that our Liver Birds are synonymous with the city – how many places can say that?

6
From contemporary art to street art, national theatre productions to grassroots plays, plus more free museums, galleries and festivals than any UK city outside of London, Liverpool’s arts scene has always got something good going on.

7
MORE HERITAGE PARKS THAN ANY OTHER CITY OUTSIDE LONDON
When you think of a city you might not think of green spaces – but in Liverpool we do both with more than 250 parks and green spaces across the city.

8
Just a 30-minute train journey from the city centre we’ve got Crosby, Formby or Hilbre Island for spotting red squirrels, seals or just the ice cream van.
9
We’ve got one of the most vibrant comedy scenes in the UK right now with clubs for big acts and emerging talent showing every night of the week. And with our famous scouse wit, is it any wonder?
10
Ask someone about Liverpool and they’ll always mention the people, whether it’s our kindness, passion, energy or determination. Living in Liverpool –it means more.

Being a student in Liverpool is amazing. The city has such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and when you’re a student here, Liverpool feels like a big family.

Rewarding success and supporting students to achieve
Whether it’s a new laptop, help with accommodation costs or learning how to drive – how you spend your scholarship money is up to you. We don’t just award our scholarships to straight A students either (though academic ability is important); we are also interested in awarding scholarships to students who can show us that they are hardworking and passionate about something and successful at what they do.
The aim of the Opportunity Scholarship is to enhance diversity, supporting access, participation and outcomes of students from diverse ethnic backgrounds who come to LJMU.
The Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship has been introduced to recognise the diverse and inspiring nature of the LJMU student community. These highprofile scholarships have been developed to reward the success of students that may have had a different and sometimes longer path into Higher Education or have overcome adversity in some way.
Rewards academic excellence (at least 3 A grades at A2 or equivalent –144 UCAS points)
Awarded for participation in areas such as volunteering, sports, the arts or citizenship.
Recognising Sir Bert Massie, national disability rights champion and former student of LJMU, we award this scholarship to an outstanding disabled student who has campaigned or championed inclusion in some way.

Students come from different academic backgrounds, and understanding how to make the most of your degree can feel like a module in itself! That’s why we’ve assembled a crack team of staff to help you dream, plan and achieve…
Based in the Student Life Building, their job is to get you up to speed with the skills you need to achieve at degree-level study –think Harvard referencing, literature reviews, quantitative vs qualitative studies… and that’s just for starters! Not only are they there to help explain terminology or organise your workload, they’re also a vital resource to those who want to take their academic writing or use of maths and statistics to the next level.
These bookworms are specialists in their area. Need an expert to help you find resources to take your writing further? There’s a subject librarian for that. Need someone to help locate a journal article or an online resource? You’ve guessed it – subject librarians can do that too.

Personal tutors are staff from your area of study who get to know you on a deeper level. They’re there to support your success, providing guidance on course content, helping you make sense of assessment feedback and referring you to the correct teams to best support you. They’re also there for a cup of tea and a chat if you need that too!
Letting the university know that you have a disability or medical condition means that we can offer services, advice and support to you throughout your course.
Our Disability Advice Team can work with you before you start at LJMU, helping you to apply for Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) via your funding body and providing information and advice on how to access support at LJMU, including additional exam provisions and in-house Study Skills support. The team can also connect you with other support available, including our team of Mental Health Advisors.
As well as guiding you through the whole DSA process and helping you to arrange your support, we will work with you to create an Individual Student Learning Plan (ISLP). You can choose to share this with your programme team, so that your tutors know what support you might need on your course.
All LJMU programmes have a Disability Co-ordinator, who is a member of academic staff and acts as a link between the Disability
Advice team and your programme. The Disability Coordinator helps ensure that any support provided is relevant for your course and your specific needs.
Whether you are eligible for DSA or not, the Disability Advice team can offer support, information and advice, so please get in touch as soon as you know you want to study at LJMU.

I wasn’t sure where to study at first, but I decided to pursue what I can make a difference with and found LJMU was the best place for it. My experience has already gotten me shortlisted for a few graduate positions!
Dan BA (Hons) Forensics, Policing & Investigations

For some, choosing what to study at uni is a no-brainer – from early on they have always known what they’re passionate about studying and where they want it to lead them.
But for the majority of students, this isn’t the case. Most people are unsure what path they want to take after school or college, and if you’re struggling to find a course that clicks, you’re not alone.

Look at your strengths, not just at your grades. You might want to take on a new challenge, or you might want to build deeper knowledge in a subject you excel at.
You are investing time, money and effort, so make sure you’re investing it in something you like to learn about.
People learn in different ways so it’s important to consider what type of learning suits you. Find out if the course is primarily taught through lectures, labs or seminars. What about the method of examination?
Want to know what the differences between study options are? Turn to p.52
Think about where you want to be after university. You might have a careers advisor who can help you with this. Why not check with employers to see what qualifications they’re looking for? Check job listings for application criteria and find out what degree might be expected for your dream graduate role, and when considering your course, find out if there are placement opportunities available - turn to p.82 to find out more.

There are different types of study structures – find the right course to suit you…

Designed for those who might not have studied the necessary subjects, or may not meet the entry requirements, but have the potential and passion for degree level study, a foundation year adds a year to the length of your degree to support you into study.
Higher National Certificates or Higher National Diplomas are vocational qualifications that take between one and two years to complete and are designed to prepare you for the working world, or for further study at degreelevel.

A Bachelors degree is the most common type of undergraduate course. They are usually studied over three years, after which you will usually graduate with one of the following:
• BA (Hons) - Bachelor of Arts with honours
• BSc (Hons) - Bachelor of Science with honours
• BEng (Hons) - Bachelor of Engineering with honours
• LLB (Hons) – Bachelor of Law with honours

Integrated Masters add an extra year of postgraduate study or research to your Bachelors degree, enabling you to graduate with a Masters qualification.
A Top Up is designed for those who already have a qualification like a HND or foundation degree. This period of study ‘tops up’ your existing qualification to a Bachelors level qualification.
Many degrees have the option to add a sandwich year. Generally taking place in your third year of study, a sandwich year extends your overall course length by one year by incorporating a placement year into your course. This will give you invaluable work experience, boosting employability, and offering a fantastic opportunity to gain experience, at home, in a different city or even a different country.
Earn a full-time wage while you learn part-time. These programmes still lead to a degree-level qualification, but they’re undertaken alongside degree-related employment – plus your employer and the government usually cover your tuition fees.
See p.56 to find out more.

I chose LJMU because of the foundation year offered. In my degree I’ve been steadily working through everything that comes my way - even including fieldwork in Slovenia!

I chose the Biology course as it has really good content. The lecturers also provide excellent pastoral care.

Elvina BSc (Hons) Biology
I attended the applicant day and got a proper taster as to what my course would be about. I want to go into Management Consulting and LJMU has set up a consultancy project in my course for my final year in place of a dissertation - perfect!

Emily BSc (Hons) Business Management

Getting my placement is one of my proudest moments. Before, I was quite introverted but during my placement I discovered a new version of myself.

I couldn’t have picked a better university to study mechanical engineering. Being here gave me the confidence to fail in a safe controlled environment, which in the end allowed me to learn from my mistakes and become a better engineer from it.

Emma BA (Hons)

My course builds a lot of skills that you need when you go into the working world. For example, I’ve learnt a few programming languages, but also how I use the techniques I’ve learnt in real-life situations. Ellie BA (Hons) Mathematics with Finance.

Some courses include the opportunity to participate in a work placement (see course list on pages 58 –79). Placements give you practical experience of the workplace and the chance to put your learning into practice. They will give you a taste of what it’s really like to work in the industry and they also help you develop personal skills and enhance your employability. Placements can be anything from two weeks to twelve months; the full year placement is often referred to as a sandwich year and is a salaried, paid opportunity.
Across our campuses, we have dedicated placement support teams who will provide you with the relevant support to undertake your work placement.
Examples of placements that LJMU students have undertaken include:
• Students studying business courses have been placed with companies such as Disney, Liverpool Football Club, Bentley Motors and Unilever.
• Strong connections with many local and national media companies, such as BBC, Sky Sports, Liverpool Echo and Hurricane Films have enabled many students to land placements as editors, agents, film producer runners and camera operators.
• Our nursing, paramedic and midwifery students are on placements throughout their degree, gaining valuable experience of patient care in a wide variety of settings.
• Students studying our real estate, construction or surveying degrees can participate in a year’s professional work placement, either in the UK or overseas. The direct work experience could also count towards a professional qualification.
• For students studying a sports-related course, we have excellent industry links including the Football Association, FIFA, various Premier League football clubs and the Professional Footballers’ Association. There are also a range of community-based placements within a variety of sports.
In addition to our subject based placements, our universitywide LJMU Student Futures: Careers, Employability and Start-Up team provides opportunities to participate in funded internships and work-based learning.
During my second year, I applied for an internship and through that I got to work in a role as assistant producer on a podcast called Kids Cast.

Before you start, it would be a good idea to take a look at the details of the courses you are interested in by visiting ljmu.ac.uk/ courses. Here, you will find details of our entry requirements for each course.
To apply for a full-time undergraduate degree, submit your application via UCAS using institution code L51.
For applications for most undergraduate courses commencing in 2027, the UCAS Equal Consideration Deadline (ECD) is on 13 January 2027 (18:00 UK GMT).
To keep up to date with all the latest key dates and deadlines, refer to ucas.com.
Applications made by this deadline will be considered first and in full by the admissions team. Though we consider applications made after this deadline, some courses fill up quickly so it’s worth submitting your application as soon as you feel ready.
Depending on the course chosen and qualifications studied, we will usually make an offer using specific grades or UCAS tariff points. The typical offer we will make is listed under each course on pages 58-79.
But it’s not just about your academic qualifications. Our admissions staff take into consideration all aspects of your application, including non-standard qualifications, professional experience
and any mitigating factors to your attainment. We also consider applications from mature students and those who may not be taking a direct path into university straight from school or education.
At LJMU, we are dedicated to widening participation in education. We understand that academic potential isn’t always accurately represented by grades alone. Therefore, we consider additional information included in your application. If you meet certain eligibility criteria, we may make an offer lower than our typical entry requirements.
Some of our courses require submission of a portfolio, attendance of an interview or completion of a personality assessment and situational judgement test as part of the application process.
